AID Bank and DSC to host taxation course

Merrill Matthew, Director of Continuing Studies at the Dominica State College

The Dominica Agricultural and Industrial Development Bank (AID Bank) has teamed up with the Dominica State College (DSC) to deliver this year’s International Taxation in the Caribbean Context Course.

The programme is scheduled run from August 7 to 11 at the Bath Estate Campus of the college from 5pm to 8pm each evening.

The AID Bank is one of the first of a number of corporate citizens who have stepped forward this year to assist the college in delivering the programme.

“When an institution such as AID Bank comes forward and says, “I want to support this course”, it is a vote of confidence in the ability of the Dominica State College to deliver high level professional and personal development courses. But secondly, AID Bank is also demonstrating that it is also desirous of supporting any activity which involves human resource development in Dominica,” said Merrill Matthew, Director of Continuing Studies at the Dominica State College.

The course will be delivered by attorney and law professor Dr. Vaughn James who will seek through the 15 hour programme to increase the understanding of participants to the global challenges of taxation of international transactions especially as it relates to the people of the Caribbean region.

“This course targets mainly persons who deal with tax issues on a daily basis so the Inland Revenue Department would be a major priority, accountants would be priority, parliamentarians who have to decide on policy issues regarding taxation would be targeted, lawyers, of course, who deal on a day to day basis with advising clients on taxation issues would be targeted, persons who are involved in teaching economics and taxation issues would be targeted. But on a whole, anybody who is excited about what is happening in taxation internationally and how that affects people right in Dominica in their homes, their bank accounts would be targeted,” he said.

People who are interested in this programme have been advised to pick up a form at the Stock Farm Campus of the college. The fee for the programme is $550.00 and participants have been promised a very fulfilling course.
