American Airlines files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

American Airlines, the world’s fourth largest airline, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The decision comes as the airline tries to “achieve a cost and debt structure that is industry competitive and thereby assure its long-term viability and ability to continue delivering a world-class travel experience for its customers,” the company said in a statement.

AMR, the airline’s parent company, said American Airlines, American Eagle and all its other subsidiaries would honour all tickets and reservations and operate normal flight schedules during the bankruptcy filing process.

I hope this bankruptcy protection won’t prevent flights from coming to Dominica. This is the only airline I like traveling with to Dominica. If such is the case my visits to Dominica will be less frequent. Also bearing in mind the foreign students that commute back and forth.

:( I love AA even though they are costly and for Liat they are not good at all they have the nerve to tell someone they will lose their money if they miss their flight, what is wrong with this people,we work hard for our money why cant they just put us on a next flight or something, anyway I hope AA gets better now. :-D

Thats a lie, you will more lose your ticket on AA than LIAT if you miss your flight. LIAT honors tickets if they mess you up so much to acomodate at hotels and get you on yournext flights. AA does not do such.

Worst airline period! Rude no good airport personnel. cockroaches and rodents in cabins. Dirty serving trays. Maybe the CEO can give back their 12 million dollar bonus.

I was so sad when i heard the news this morning, i am a die hard AA fan, even though they charge me arm and a leg to fly into dominica.BUT as someone mentioned earlier, the airline is governed by a bunch of GREEDY BASTARDS who rip all the benefits and cares less about what happens to the customers and workers. they’ve been dragging this company down for years now, and now it time for the most dreadful term “CHAPTER 11”.

I hope that someone sees it fit to reshuffle the governing members of AMR and put some steps into place to get this airline back to where it use to be , THE WORLDS LARGEST AIRLINE!!!!!

As much as i am a AA fan….DELTA is quite awesome, starting to lean towards them, just wish they started a “Delta Caribbean” service where they would operate using smaller aircrafts into our airports around the caribbean and bypass the San Juan-Madness.

    AS I SEE IT

TELL ME IN THE UNITED STATES IS RULED BY ONE PRESIDENT ABD A VICE PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS
    THATS LIKE MANAGERS.
SO TELL ME WHY IS AMERICAN AIRLINES IS A COMPANY AND ITS RUN WITH ONE PRESIDENT AND 33 VICE PRESIDENTS WHO GET PAID MILLIONS
WHY DONT CUT THE HEADS FROM MANAGEMENT THEN RECONSTRUCT THE COMPANY.
SO JUST HAVE 1 PRESIDENT AND 1 VICE PRESIDENT AND HAVE STATIONS MANAGERS AND SUPPERVISORS TO RUN THE HUBS AND STATIONS
THAT SHOULD HAVE THE COMPANY GOING.

Cause one man figure he needs 20 million dollars a year to run a business and force his workers and pilots to work for about $15 an hour… can u imagine the pilots that have the lives and airline reputation in their hands get payed lower than some teachers? this is retarded
