The Dominica Agricultural Industrial and Development Bank (DAIDB) has made a $1,500.00 contribution to the Sixth Form Sisserou Singers’ (SFSS) 20th Anniversary production, Choral Memoirs.
“The AID Bank is pleased to support this production and acknowledges the outstanding performances staged throughout the life of the group. We applaud the effort that is put into the annual productions and high standard that is maintained each year,” says Executive Manager Corporate Affairs, Dr. Emaline Harris-Collymore.
According to SFSS President Leandra Lander, the group is committed to providing quality choral presentations to the Dominican public.
“This year it’s all about the memories,” she stated. “We will be singing some old favorites, some past members will perform and we will dedicate songs to the memories of deceased calypsonian Freddie ‘Man Himself’ Mendes and the late South African president Nelson Mandela. The show is also a glimpse into who we are and where we have come from.
The 20th Anniversary production, Choral Memoirs, will be staged under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency Mr. Charles Savarin and Mrs. Savarin on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th July, 2014 at the Arawak House of Culture and in the Catholic Church Hall in Portsmouth on Sunday 13th July, 2014.
The community youth choir was started in 1994 as a collaborative project between the Division of Culture and the then Sixth Form College, through the initiative of some of the school’s students. In addition to their annual production and Christmas tour, SFSS has performed at prominent events throughout the island and in 2012 was awarded for the development and promotion of choral music at The National Cultural Council’s Golden Drum Awards.
Their last staging, 2013’s Choral Legends, features legendary songs and also paid tribute to legendary personalities. In 2012, the production Voices was webcast live with a special viewing by Dominicans in Canada through the Commonwealth of Dominica Ontario Association (CDOA).
The 38-strong group is directed by Sr. Cultural Officer Pearle Christian.
Friday and Saturday’s shows commence at 8:00 p.m, while the Sunday show will begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $30.00 and can be purchased from Valentines Shoe Store near Woodstone Shopping Mall.
CAPTION:
SFSS Director Pearle Christian receives $1500.00 cheque from Josephine Dechausay Titre, Special Projects / Communications Co-ordinator at the AID Bank.
Special thanks should be extended to the AID Bank for their generosity. A fundraising could be appropriate. There should be more of them to raise funds, as bake sales, etc., also for other non-profit organizations.
Sorry I am not in D/ca. Where I reside I contribute my time and money (God’s own) for the annual Church bazaar and also for the young girls, called Squirrets (the boys are called Squires) in the parish. Approximately three times a year I bake bread and cakes for them. I expect, always, to receive a call from them at that time. They love my bread which I make in the bread maker – different types. Of course, the notification is also placed in the Church bulletin. It is time consuming but I do this joyfully since it is for a worthy cause.
St. Paul taught us much about helping one another and The Way of Love. God expects that each one of us must do our part.
2 Corinthians 9-6-10 – God’s Indescribable Gift – Consider this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written: “He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor, his righteousness endures forever.” The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness.
St. Paul also said: “Who has more does not necessarily have more. Who has less does not necessarily have less.
