On Saturday June 4, 2011, BVI Airways began service to Melville Hall Airport, Dominica (DOM) from Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, Tortola, BVI (EIS) and Princess Juliana International Airport, St. Maarten (SXM).
The carrier operates two 19-seater British Aerospace Jetstream 32 Jet Prop airliners on serving Dominica on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
With this new service, travellers from North America and Europe are now able to make same day connections into Dominica via St. Maarten.
Excellent news. New air link, new ferry service. All good news for Dominica
Now that this service seems there for the long term, it is now time for Dominicans to support it and therefore favor St Maarten Juliana as their preferred hub from the US East coast.
With Delta, Jet Blue, US Airways, United Airlines, Spirit, American Airlines, Continental, Air France, Air Caraibes, Corsair and Westjet serving St Maarteen from NorthEast US, Canada, Florida and France, many options exist.
BVI Airlines nees a decent filling factor to survive and only Dominicans and tourists visiting Dominica can help by using their service.
Thumbs up for Air BVI.
This is a very good thing. It should solve the St Maarten hub’s situation and will ease the transfers to and from this hub. The timetable is good, the aircrafts are adequate. Now remains to solve similarly for other hubs. Hewannorah next ?
WONDERFUL
I trust that as business progresses BVI Airways would look into the possibility of acquiring at least one or two 50 seater Dash-8 aircraft (similar to those of LIAT) in order to boost the passenger carrying capacity per aircraft.
