President of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU), Grenadian Aaron Moses, believes the the Credit Union movement is well poised and continues to make significant strides.
The CCCU held its 58th annual convention and 44th AGM at the Moon Palace Spa & Resort in Cancun, Mexico where over 700 hundred persons, including 21 from Dominica, attended the June 20-24 meeting.
Held under the team “Cooperatives: celebrating success and embracing new challenges for sustainable development,” Aaron said that the CCCU will continue to intensify its advocacy efforts to achieve greater impact and preserve the sector’s non-tax status as “not for profit co-operatives that dispense financial services.”
“These efforts will also be linked to programmes that focus on youth, expands the sectors social involvement and enhances its appeal,” he said.
He noted that efforts will also be made to operationalize alliances being developed to expand the Confederations services and financial returns.
Overall, the CCCU enjoyed what is labeled as “another reasonable and successful year” as it continued to maintain a positive “financial position.”
A surplus of $US107,756 was realized which was higher than projected as some expected expenses were “not incurred.”
Acquisition of a new headquarters for the CCCU, a report from the organization states, remains a “priority.” The cost of preparatory works, in relation to architectural design, were financed by the Confederation.
For the CCCU, cash at bank stood at US$156,940 representing a decrease of $US4,761 or 3 percent as compared to the December 2013 figure.
In summary, the total asset of the Confederation at the end of the year stood at US$1,071,371 representing an increase of US$128,938 over the same period at the end of the year.
