Children, youth, working class and the sick will be the main focus of the Financial Information Month (FIM) 2015, which is now in its 14th year.

FIM is a regional, financial, economic, business and entrepreneurial education campaign executed in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU), through collaborative efforts of the ECCB.

A number of activities have been set for the month including a kid programme, church service, business symposium, a kids financial workshop, radio and televisions programmes among others.

Business Development Officer at the National Development Foundation (NDFD), Sharon Vidal-Francis, who gave an overview of the FIM at the official media launch held at the National Development Foundation of Dominica (NDFD) conference room on Thursday, said the NDFD continues to support the activities to mark financial information month since these activities are in line with the mandate of the company.

“This year we are trying to focus on as many segments of society to include children, youth, working class and the sick,” Francis stated. “We are partnering with the Dominica Youth Business Trust (DYBT) to provide a two-day workshop for the young entrepreneurs.”

The aim of the workshop she said is, “to improve financial literacy among small business owners and managers.”

Other activities have been held outside the month October itself, Vidal-Francis said.

“In August the FIM theme song was launched and the first ever Hack- A- Thon was hosted,” Francis noted. “Hack-A-Thon was a forum where computer programmers came to develop programmes to solve business problems.”

According to her this year about 30 businesses in Dominica have partnered in providing support both in cash and kind for the month of activities.

FIM incorporates a series of initiatives designed to support the attainment of the goal of a financial developed and vibrant ECCU region that fosters strong and sustainable economic growth and the improved well-being of the citizenry.

FIM 2015 will be held under the theme: Learn, Empower, Achieve, Develop (LEAD).
