Clear Harbor reports high level of delinquency; PM addresses concerns

Foreign company Clear Harbor is reporting an unacceptable level of delinquency on the part of some of its staff at its Dominica business and has warned that it could suffer from a drop in the volume of contracted work given to the company.

Its management has officially complained to the Dominica government about what they say is a high level of delinquency and inefficiency among its staff.

Clear Habor employs several hundreds of locals.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says he has been made aware by the company’s management that it is dissatisfied with the existing delinquency situation.

“About two years ago I visited the USA along with the owners of Clear Habour with a view to creating more jobs for the dozens of young people who leave our schools on an annual basis. We were able to negotiate with Clear Habour to increase the jobs from 535 to 786,” the prime minister said.

“There has been a commitment by Clear Habor to increase the jobs from 786 to 1000 and to take it from 1000 to 1500. The lowest salary paid is about $1676 with the opportunity to increase that by overtime. But I got a call saying that the company is being affected by the high level of delinquency and inefficiency,” PM Skerrit confirmed.

A recent example, he said, was last Saturday’s official opening parade of Dominica’s 2012 Carnival, when Clear Habor is reported to have recorded 36 per cent absenteeism.

“The operation is that the contracted company in the US has the ability to monitor the operations throughout the day and they do so every fifteen minutes. They were able to capture that high level of delinquency and they are now saying to Clear Habour that they will have to cut back on the volume of work given to them. We can understand the implications,” The Dominican leader said.

He paid a visit to Clear Harbour on Wednesday in an effort to address the concerns raised by the company.

OK. ENOUGH TALKING. I PRESENTLY HAVE A JOB AND I LOOKING FOR ANOTHER JOB BECAUSE THAT IS THE WAY I AM GOING TO REACH MY GOAL BY WORKING HARD AND BEING EFFICIENT IN MY WORK. GTOD HELP THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES.

I WANT TO KNOW IF CLEAR HARBOR TAKING PART TIME WORKERS. CAN WORK THE NIGHT SHIFT AND ON WEEKENDS.

THOSE YOUNG EMPLOYEES AT CLEAR HARBOR DON’T REALISE THE IMPORTANCE OF WORK. WE HAVE TO BE GRATEFUL FOR THE WORK GOD PROVIDE US WITH. THE SAME PEOPLE THAT SAYING DOMINICA HARD ARE THE ONES THAT ARE BEING LAZY.

WAKE UP PEOPLE: WHEN U SEE THOSE PEOPLE COMING FROM ENGLAND AND BUILDING THEIR BIG HOUSES IN DOMINICA. WHAT YOU THINK THEY DID? SOME OF THEM HAD TWO WORK TWO TO THREE JOBS, WALK IN SNOW AND RAIN EVERYDAY TO GET TO WORK.
WHY ARE WE COMPLAINING NOW? WHY CANT WE SEE BEYOND THE HARD WORK AND LATE HOURS AND START SECURING OUR FUTURE WHILE ITS EARLY.

    THINK ABOUT IT!

The workers at Clear Harbor just have to be concious of their jobs, the country depends on them to be serious and not delinquent, in that way they will get more business and customers. Its time for us to raise our standard, raise it boldly and answer to our duty’s call.

what should be talked about is the conditions that we work in and ridiculous rules that they have. Do you know that we have to ask PERMISSION to got to the bathroom? And even wen we do, it is DEDUCTED from our PAY? how is it that the offices in states are closed on their holidays and we are at work and we still have to work on OUR holidyas? dont we have families too? dont we have culture too? is it ok to work over time hours and not get paid for it? wht the PM needs to do next time he visits CH is to walk the floor and ask the employess a few questions about the way that we are treated and not go the management office and let them tell him their side of the story. he needs to her our voices cause we are the ones holding this company. without us there will be nothing to manage

I’ve experienced the CH Dominica environment and I saw a large number of employees standing around while there were others who were working diligently. I think if you’re one of the hard workers then this probably wasn’t focused toward you. The article said there was a 36% absenteeism, which means at least 64% of the employees chose to do the right thing. I would hope you were part of the 64%.

Is it true that clear harbor’s basic wage is no less than $1600.00 a month. This is such a lie. Some of us working there for over five years to be exact and our month pay is $1500 plus. So this is just a blaytant lie. The managers are very crucial for giving the public one side of the story there is two sided to every story and if your brain operating well you would know don;t jump to conclusions too quickly. Do you all know that some people left clear harbor to go and plant fig and dasheen because they can’t deal with the lack of professionalism and the peter paying for paul and the prejudices as well. Those of you who have not worked their please KEEP YOUR MOUTH”S SHUT WHY? BEcause you don’t know crap about what is going on inside you have to ask to go to the bathroom like you in pre school. When your managers allowing you to work on carnival monday half dressed just because its carnival the sense of respect needed in that environment will never work because there is a conflict of iterest… Work is work am not saying it should not have benefits or time to free up but that is stretching the joke. There even has times when the manager uses bad language on the floor because of anger where is the maturity and its true they don;t care about the agents. They have this thing called empathy that is just a put on to get what they want, so people you have to be in the kitchen to know how hot it gets in here.

i would like to know how many of u work in the us to know that americans work on holidays and weekends.. i am employed at clear harbor and the customers tell u that today is a holiday..americans get thanksgiving and christmas and even more holidays. so dont come with all u crap americans dont get holiday. the centers in america close on their holidays and we open. we work on their holidays and our holidays. not even our independence and the americans get july 4th off..dominicans thats is the donkey.. so the people who dont know how it is shut up; we grateful for the job but they are just wicked. grenada get their holidays we dont..
we have bad weather. we under huricane warning wind blowing trees falling down we inside clear harbor. grenada under hurrican watch they close. what the hell..them ass managers saying they cant send people home.. the managers inside clear are the worst..they dont care about the agents.. all they care about is the money.. they dont treat people right so people will always do what they have to do.. if u sick and u want to go home they have to tell u no u cant go. if they not seeing u cant make it again thats when they tell u can go.. so it feel like a prison just that u getting paid..

so them stupid dominicans that dont know sqat hush all u mouth.. skerrit more ass than ch to listen to their lies.. the lowest wage is 1600.. it look like he have to give us the bal to make the 1600 because i know i not getting a 1600.. or it look like i have to sue somebody for the rest of my money..

yes the number of person is high but they have to treat people better.. as my hr teacher said when i was at college a happy workforce means high productivity.. hr do u know that.. u sure behave like u dont know that..

you are so wrong. who ever you are, PEOPLE WORK during the holidays in the states, all providers such as Comcast, AT&T, Gas stations, Walmart, Airlines, hospitals, police and much more. Yes a majority are home during the holidays, because they work in the “normal” monday to friday and so on. You need to learn something before you talk. In countries such as Antigua, Virgin Islands, Pr, and St.Marteen which are in the caribbean places DO WORK!!! Jewellery Stores, Super Markets, Gas Stations are OPEN!!!

Dominicans really need to grow up and get in line with the rest of the world.

I just have to laugh at this one. Sure, all of America closes down on holidays. Does that even make sense???? Sure. There are many businesses that do close. The large majority do not. I have to agree with everyone else and say that if the position/environment/j.o.b. doesn’t work for you, quit.

A number of CH’S employees are young college drop outs or mere high school graduates. there are some of this kind who know the importance of having a job, are disciplined and are generally responsible. But others are just making a game of everything life offers. I suggest that management observe the slackers very closely. There are many people who complain about not having new shoes while others around have no feet.

I’m sorry but that’s a week cry. There are other jobs out there that pay much less and you don’t even get to sit down for 5 mins break.
I’m of the opinion that when you accept a job you accept the terms and conditions of the job. If you don’t like it don’t take time off to go have fun. While you have the opportunity try and better yourself mentally so that you can leave those “harsh” conditions that others are begging to work in and you will be able to get a job somewhere better.
The point is come to work.

This seem to be your first job. If you had traveled you would realize many places have 3 minutes lunch. When you came begging for the job you were told all of this. You signed your contract and accepted it. Why did you? Now what do you want? 2 hours of lunch. get up and be productive. When you work on holiday you get paid double time. Again before you took the job you were informed and educated. You wanted the job so you took it. Then guess what! No one is holding a gun to your head. You are welcome to leave and allow someone else to enter. Why don’t you resign since carnival is coming up. You will be in need of these two days. Try applying again on ash Wednesday. I dare you. Grow up and get responsible.

you forgot the part where you say you have 2 15 mins break intervals. You all need to grow up and stop being so stupid. I know people who are standing on their feet all day at restaurants and get 30 mins lunch. Some of you all really got to travel abroad to see experience what life is like.

I’ve worked in a job with 30 minutes break which is in actual fact 20 minutes because you need to WALK to the lunch hall and WALK back to be at your place on time, so I am ‘wolfing’ down my lunch, stretching my legs and using the bathroom all in 20 minutes…and please note the queues for lunch and toilets. So stop complaining! I found a way and you can, too!

I read a few comments written by some present and former CH employees and the more I read, the more I am convinced we need a few more CHs in Dominica. They are learning many lessons about how work is done in developed countries.

How many times have you heard people complain about how long it takes to get the simplest task accomplished in Dominica? The pay may not be the greatest, but if the more companies imposed that kind of discipline at the workplace, I think the whole country would benefit from their new experience.

The wages earned in Dominica may be low, but the prosuctivity is extremely low. Therefore unless they are prepared to work a lot harder and more efficiently, there is really no benefit in relocating a business to places like Dominica. For there to be any advantage to move from the Southern US to a place like Dominica, the people must work the same or similar standard as what would be expected from a US based company.

To the CH employees you are learning some valuable lessons without even knowing it. You will be better for it in the long run.

    1. complaining to employee
    2. complain to Minister
    3. complain to PM then close down

I’ve worked at CH for just a little over 4 years and as far as I’m concerned….this has always been happening.

Employees skip regular working days just for a little relaxation from the highly stressful work environment.

Just like any other workplace, there WILL be stress and hardships. The problem i had personally was with my co-workers themselves….all SO negative about any and everything.

Everybody had something to say, but it was all negative. Honestly, i believe that the mentality of a lot of CH’s employees have to change. We have to change ourselves before we can experience change all around us.

I’ve learned a lot working with these people and i WILL take my experience with me no matter where I decide to go in life.

Some people just need to pull up their socks and GO TO WORK. Real Mas is OUR culture…its not going anywhere.

I say to the many young people employed at CH to just simply take advantage of your options….TAKE A ONE DAY OR 2 DAYS LEAVE! Enjoy your day properly.

More than half of y’all own Blackberries….have a friend record the activities for you….watch it live on TV during your lunch break. Don’t mess up your money and that of those who are trying to make an honest living.

I remember working at the call centre ‘call 767’ and we had to go through so many insults. there was a time when one customer told me dont i take this call and hang it in my much needed closet. people would just slam their phones in our faces. but you know what at the end of the day we enjoyed what we did. so we never complained. we were paid 5 dollars an hour, we never complained, because we were grateful for the job that we had. We had lots of incentives the more sales you made the more money you got and with the 5 dollars an hour, sometimes I at the end of the month i would get double my salary, and you know why? because i was dedicated to my work. I loved my job. therefore i was an effective and very efficient worker. however a time came for complaining and that is when the company closed its doors and never paid us what was due unto us. so people stop complaining. ask your prime minister to represent you to the managers of clear habor since he is the one they complained to. voice your grievances to him instead of coming on DNO to do such

try that four years at a hotel as a receptionist where you cant make monkey faces or ‘screw you’ signs lol. where the guest is right up in your face, even reaching over the desks to grab stuff and rip it apart because they are so angry. take a breath, they cant strangle you through the phone. Come on now people suck it up.

Oh gosh, the world is filled with so many stupid people. Rate of pay is just fine, do you know that the have the ability to double that? Last i checked aprx 97% of the employees own one or more blackberries, they are always well dressed, nails down and up with the latest fashion. Why to you want to compare the price in US? They are in Dominica and its 1.5 times the basic wage so its OKAY.

They’re not complaining about the pay, its the work they’re complaining about. Its hard work, but nothing comes free! They need to learn the experience so they wont go work at Burger King and clean up waste when/if the move abroad.

If that’s the way you look at things, especially in relation in to work, then I feel sorry for you.Individuals make up a company, and if every employee has your kind of work ethics and attitude then the employment rate is destined to rise. When you work you’re not doing your employer a favour by being there- you’re paid for it.The pay is not bad and can be more with overtime. We need to understand what the field of work truly entails and learn commitment.

There are other countries that would be quite happy to get the jobs being offered by Clear Harbor. Dominicans are developing poor work ethics among other problems. I agree with Ebony’s comment. When Dominicans travel abroad they work every day of the week to pay taxes and live under other stressful conditions. Yes, I will admit that it is stressful to work at Clear Harbor, but if you DO NOT WANT THE LEAVE!!!!!!! Don’t take away others’ ‘bread and butter’.

  29. Ex CLH Worker
    February 2, 2012

I worked at clear harbor for less than 6 months, yes less than 6 months. I cant complain it was a good job, great experience and it’s because of that i am grateful for the opporunity to have been employed there. i learnt a lot, and like Avril said on our first day of training, what you learn at CLH you take with you to your next joba nd the next. It is tough trust me, working 10 HR shift that was actually 11 hrs, leaving home in the morning and getting back at 9:30 OR 10 in the night wasn’t easy for me. i loved the job, the experience of customer service and the basic pay the way is $720 a fortnight if you work your full 80 hrs. because of my shift i got 3 days off, and on those days off i went to church, my class because yes i was still furtherng my education. at the end of the day some employees do genuinely get sick, lose their voice due to all the talking, i can testify to that. In just two months i went to the doctor 8 times and i was genuinely sick. all doctors said that they were not telling me to quit my job but i was losing my voice so i had to leave. Those who are no sick should show up, because of clear harbor many young people have jobs and can provide for themselves and their familes. When we have a good thing going dont mess it up. and like Avril said, she doesnt expect every employee to stay on the production floor as an agent forever, there are opportunities to get promoted or when the time is right find another job and move on taking the CLH experience with you

  30. Dominican
    February 2, 2012

In all seriousness, the absence of workers on the floor (on phones, ready to assist customers)creates great problems for reporting and efficiency.

If 30 employees are expected to be on the phones at a particular time and there are only 15, the service level drops dramatically and impacts call volume, etc. We need to understand this.

As compared to other jobs in Dominica and even Government employees who have worked for over 20 yrs. with no appointment, the pay at Clear Harbor is at a high level. I understand the issues the reps. have re: work conditions, but at the call center that I work (in the US), reps. are being written up for being 1 minute (yes 1 minute) late. That’s only because if they are not on the phones when they’re suppose to, calls begin to be on hold and it affects service level.

The Customers are not the problem, its management and their lame attitudes. We work on our holiday and through bad weather while other dominicans get to go home and enjoy themselves. I work an 8 hour shift and its nothing like what dominicans work. * hours does not include our lunch time and just so u know we only get 30 mins lunch and have to clock back in 30 mins sharp. Some ppl in mamangement are sweet but the bigger bosses dont give a crap about us. You huys work but dont have your bosses breathing down your backs and rating you on a daily basis. Try explaining a bill to a relay customer(death), elderly person in 5-6 mins. no matter how dumb they seem we cant show the slightest agression. Go to any business place in dominica and ask the same questions 5 times and see how bad youll be treated. So you guys dont know a thing about clear. We complain and behave bad a bit yes but you guys can certainly learn a thing or two from clear harbor employees. (FINISHLINE)

This is called customer service. something that the Dominican places would do well to emulate. Imagine going into the Ministry and the secretary is on her CELL PHONE, not the ministry phone chatting, you are standing in front the desk for 2-3 minutes, you say excuse me no answer and when she does get around to answering you, you say pardon me and ask another question, she stupps and says I answer you already. Maybe the people from Call center should train them. Remember the customer pays your salary, if the pull there account where is the money going to come from to pay you.

  33. Canadian
    February 2, 2012

I hate to compare the Canadian experience to the Dominican one, but as a Dominican, I feel that sometimes I have to.

I am sure that all the employees who suffer from the absenteeism syndrome are not just naturally delinquent. There are many who must have valid reasons for doing so.

Having said that, reading through some of the comments have me shaking my head. The reasons for the absenteeism is petty. some say they only receive 30 mins lunch. Hello, many people work 8 hrs and get 30 minutes lunch with sometimes 2 – 15 minute breaks.

Some people complain that they work all holidays. Hello … it’s not only in Dominica. This happens all over where persons, based on the industry work all holidays.

What i detest most about reading this, is the attitude of the worker. I have a friend who works at Clear Harbour, and when she told me how much she made i was gobsmacked. I’m like damn – you making money by Dominican standards. Obviously, i was taken aback that she had to work on sundays esp since in Dominica everywhere is always closed. But hey, she had a really great lifestlye..so i guess the pay suited.

The thing is…Dominicans on a whole are laid back. Only in Dominica you can go to a bank, line up, leave the line, run errands and come back and say – i was in line! Trust me – it happened to me while on vacation. And yes, i cussed off the bank teller who served the woman and told me “oh, she was here before you!” Yes, F..k, i was pissed because i lined up for more than 1 hr waiting for these lazy as hell tellers to serve me, only to be served after someone who has returned for her spot.

But that’s ok – i know never to go back to that bank for service.

Customer service sucks in Dominica, so it’s no surprise that the people rather sewo than work harder to earn a living.

We all have to go through jobs which we do not like, but they pay the bills.
It’s time Dominicans get with the program of the rest of the world – YOU HAVE TO WORK HARD, to get anywhere

I read some of the CH Workers comments and its painful to read, we are in trouble. Some of them i guess it may be their first job so there may be need to complain . WHile i understand there may be some challenges in the work place (like every where else), AT CH you will get a mixture of the American work culture and management style where there is little to no emotion shown at work because everyone is here to do a job and productivity is expected to be high, and you have a little influence of DOminican work culture. For those who are dedicated cudos to you and continue to stay focus. You may be moving on at some point and therefore will need to have that resume to help push you forward. The nature of the call center environment calls for sometimes longer hours and hard work effort, some of us will see it as slavery (sad). I say if you are not dedicated to this environment where you also get a decent salary by Dominican standards, go to work for Astaphans or somewhere else. my comments…

Clear Harbor is a customer service center or what some people may refer to as a call center where we support the needs of our clients’ customers. That said, one of our biggest clients is an American cable, internet and phone company. Our agents receive calls on behalf of that company and help customers with their billing and service issues, using remote access to the customers’ accounts. We train each person for a period of nine weeks during which time they are paid. This includes a nesting period/trial period during which time they are paid at a higher rate followed by the production period under the guidance, support and supervision of local supervisors, team leads, coaches and managers to ensure that we provide the best quality customer service to the callers.

This is a shame, people on here encouraging this behavior. I’ve worked for clear Harbor and it was not smooth sailing but its OKAY! These young people just dont know when sum’n is good for em. No job comes without its Ups and downs. As part of growing up and making a living there are things you got to sacrifice, like all the partying (Sewo). I’ve wathced fellow coworkers get their paychecks and blow it off the weekend at the infamous “JR’s” thats all they talk about, party party party. And then they dont want to work.

Life is not EASY!!!!! They are talking about working on sundays and holidays, life who cares???? These people need to travel and see whats life is like in other countries. take for instance people who work at airports, flight attendants and pilots.THEY WORK EVERY DAY IN THE YEAR that they’re scheduled to work on, holiday or not!!!

But NOOOOOOOO>…..CH people want to skip work because its their birthday, or there is a big lime going on.

Yes the rules are CH are very strict but you know why, because black people always make things harder for each other. For instance,

(1)stealing the people them remotes, cables and all other things they could get their hands on.

    (2) they’re on lunch/break and cant be found, when you do find them, they’re on somewhere having sex,or doing some other shit.

    (3) some take boyfriend/girlfriend drama to work.

    (4) always sick/absent when there’s something going on. aka SEWO

    AND MANY MORE DESPICABLE acts.

There are REAL workers at CH who knows what it is to earn a living, those who set aside the downs and work hard to earn their living and i would feel sorry if they lost their jobs if God forbid Clear Harbor close their doors like the did not to long ago in St.Kitss

PEOPLE learn from what happened in St.Kitts,if you cant take it leave, and let someone who wants to work, replace you. Dont ruin it for others who are there trying very hard to earn an honest living.

There is always two sides to a story. I believe the management of CH should ask themselves why their workers are always on sick leave or are always absent. And i know they know the answer. Dont get me wrong i dont condone people skipping work for useless reasons.if your are not at ease in your work environment its obvious that you will become delinquent its human nature for you.CH should practice what they preach which is customer serv with their workers too.we need to stop with that dominican mentality of take what you get and shut your mouth because there is nothing else out there…

This is a reasonable comment but I prefer to think that there are three sides to a story. One of my interviewees rightfully said; your side, my side and then the truth.
I would also like to add that it is the nature of the job that we as a culture are unused to. In response, I can offer that Clear Harbor recognizes that and are trying our best to incentivize our workers; and each other to ensure that we procure the best possible reputation for Dominica and Dominicans.

One can not escape the impression that for the company to run direct to the P.M. to complain about their employees is indicative of poor managementt. I was taught that you are responsible for the people you hire and if you are not happy with the quality of your choice it is your responsibility, first and foremost. To complain to a third pary about this would be an indictment of your own judgement.Tele-sales/call center businesses are known for their higher than average turnover of staff and it is up to the management to put measures in place to mitigate this. Motivation- & appreciation programs would go a long way for instance. To provoke direct intervention by the P.M. smacks of the “big stick” approach and its effect will be dubious. I hope this can be resolved in a positive, less confrontational manner if only because we do need employment opportunities.

Don’t know about that Traveller, and it’s a hell of an accusation to make without proof. Clear Harbor is a private company but it is no secret that its managing partner, Lee Waters, has a direct line to the P.M. After all, they are one of our biggest employers (I guess only Ross would be bigger) and our country is smaller than many a suburb of large global cities.

Some Dominicans need too wake up and smell the coffee…. i am a ch employee for almost a year now… i went too school … learn…got an education….and thankful for the manager who hired me….(mrs avril)-hard working manager who for a fact tries her best too keep this company in the up right movement its going right now… Some of us need to bear in mind that this is a job!! yes we all want too go out sometimes…or spend time with our family(who wouldn’t want too?But remember when everyone went for then interview and signed the contract ‘saying”(i would sacrifice my holiday too work …..or even my family
if called too work)Now alot of ppl are talking about pay…yes we get paid…but most of us getting paid…have loans by ndfd….has hire purchase supplies by courts….astaphance…and many other places in town…Dont ask for Fast cash Dominica…. many loans are given to clear harbor workers…many say we make all the money(what about 300 coming out our salaries for tax(paye)which sometimes leaves u with plenty more less than your budget for the fortnight(all the over time we do basically is for tax too make a standard rate after all deduction)….so some Dominicans who talk..need to watch wat they are saying…most clear harbor workers don’t make 8something a fortnight…. (base pay is 6-7$ an hour for 6 months…(9.00$) after when u remove tax and deduction…do the maths…..and mind u.. u must work a full 80 hours for u too get the right amount(and working full hours dont mean going too work only..going work and being on the phones for the full 80 hours without going over your breaks…lunches…or any off phones activities while on the phones…we employees need too be more punctual when going too work…if u dont want too work..leave the job…others are dying too work too gain the money you or i don’t want!! think about if Dominica closes down…what will happen(buses has to find other means…. they too have loans and mortgages paying….. all the ladies who like doing nails(all them so losing business)….those that like too buy kfc…subway…order pizza hut..no more of that..!! yes the job has stress(all jobs has)management is trying there best!! yes all management may have there problems…but trust me they are…they do understand what goes on..they no how the customers are…but hey!! its a job..we all need it…Rent needs to be payed…fash cash needs too be paid(Sometimes is for our own family we take it)so why lose all u have and cause the company too close down!! ch workers wake up eh!i need my job!! and many others need it…… yes we go through alot..its tough to leave work when u got an emergency..but hey think about all those who complain”i am sick”

I do not condone the delinquency of the workers but DNO please be factual that stated amount is the most that workers can make because initially Clear harbour offered USD $9.00 an hour as they would have paid in the US, Skerrit told them they cannot pay Dominicans all that money because the Government does not pay civil servants that much so their base has to be much lower now it is XCD $5.00 an hour and if your sale turnover/conversion is 50% or you might on a good month make that $1600.00 so tell skerrit when he forces foreign companies to short change Dominicans they should not cry when Dominicans short change them.

When I was working for the gov’t Tom and Jerry used to come to work on time everyday at 8:00 and leave by 8:15 for an hour or maybe more to go walk round roseau. On their appraisal, it was recorded they were always on time. In the meantime, Dick used to come 8:30, and work past his time leaving at 5:30/6:00, but got a bad appraisal saying he always late. Which one deserve the better appraisal? Of course the gov’t is telling those that go walk round roseau every day that it’s okay. I rest my case…..

  49. CLH WORKER
    February 2, 2012

Being an employee at CLH for five years I must express my disappointment in the Dominican public for all of the negative comments that were made about employees of a company and people they know absolutely nothing about.

Yes; I may agree that the world is going through a recession and that a job is a valuable asset to anyone right now, and YES; I understand that we all have to respect and understand what is required of us from CLH and ensure that we make it to work as scheduled… BUT those of you who do NOT work at Clear Harbor have no idea about how the company operates.

Half of you who call us lazy and say that we are not willing to wrk should try working there for one week then come back to me then you can go ahead and post comments and give your opinion. Because I’m sure by the second day you would quit.

How many of you, would work for an organization for an entire year with absolutely NO holidays off? That’s right NO HOLIDAYS.. Not Dominican holidays nor American holidays. Ur only days off are your two scheduled days off which does not guarantee a weekend day AND your annual leave.

Would you like that if for some reason you are not able to attend work for personal or medical reasons that you have to bring in a medical, a paper from the institution or some sort of documentation about your whereabouts on that day and on top of that u don’t get paid for the day?..
Now honestly, don’t u think that’s a bit tooo personal?

Oh and by the way if u can’t present some sort of documentation; you get an occurrence.. For those of you wondering what that is; its something similar to a demerit. And yes just as a number of demerits may lead to expulsion from an educational institution those occurrences leave to dismissal.

There are lots more you people don’t know about. Like the fact that we have to ask permission to use the bathroom. That our cell phones have to be off when on the floor. If there’s an emergency our family has to call their office and pass the message on to the secretary..

So before you judge and accuse us of not wanting to work I would suggest some of you should keep quiet about what you know nothing of.

Its not that people are not willing to work, its basically the fact that we are not giving the opportunity to balance work with the rest of our lives. Work comes first, second and third..

Every single worker at CLH is grateful to have a job to go to everyday. But maybe instead of jumping the gun and calling us lazy, ask yourself a question.. Why is it that so many people are missing work. And please don’t blame the poor doctors. Some people are genuinely sick but its because of the mare fact that we are asked to ALWAYS present documentation if we miss a fraction of our scheduled time from work.

CLH workers are more hard working, more ambitious and more disciplined than half of you lazy bums employed as civil servants because I can guarantee you wouldn’t last a day on the production floor working at CLH.

So please Dominicans Stop The Madness. Stop making comments about what you know nothing about. It only makes you look like fools.

If you know nothing about the situation and have nothing better to say then just remain mum.. It will make a lot of you seem more intelligent.

My other concern is WHY is the prime minister so involved in the operations of a private institution. I don’t see him going to Witchurch, Astaphan’s or Jolly’s about issues with their employees..

And WHO on earth seriously came up with that base pay for our workers? 1600? Seriously? If the managers honestly want to take up a point about money. I wonder why our workers don’t get paid double for working on sundays? Their excuse is that its a regular working day.. Hmmmm… Really?

    • Canadian
      February 2, 2012

Apparently, you do not know that some jobs literally have no holidays off. My husband gets only CHRISTMAS Day off…. in the real world, there are some of us who work through holidays. I’ve been through both ends of it….

Let me tell you a story..i had a job where my supervisor, the owner of the company was a SUPER BITCH….. employees would just walk out everyday. The turnover ratio was crazy… i spent 8 months at the job. I didn’t quit because i’m independent and I needed a job to pay my share of the bills. And the job, though difficult because of the manager…was teaching me something I had no skills at.

Guess what I did? While employed there, i sent out my resume. I didn’t take the first job, i didn’t want to rush and end up in the same situation. I actually picked what job i wanted to go to. And i did..I got a job, Having no experience in the field, and it paid a lot more than what i was making.

After 3 months in my new job – i got a significant raise. Why? Because my experience working with Super Bitch taught me a lot. It gave me so many skills which I brought to the new job which they weren’t expecting…so i got rewarded for having these skills

The lesson of my story: sometimes you have to do what you have to, to get by. And while getting by, you learn as much as you can so when you end up somewhere else, you can dram on your experiences of before and make you stronger and better.

And i’m still at that job 5 yrs later…making a great salary, sometimes even acting as the Interim Director (And i have no formal training), but I have office skills which set me apart.

So i say to you…take this experience and learn from it. You may end up in a bigger country where this experience may just help you find bigger and better things.

There is always two sides to a story. I believe the management of CH should ask themselves why their workers are always on sick leave or are always absent. And i know they know the answer. Dont get me wrong i dont condone people skipping work for useless reasons.if your are not at ease in your work environment its obvious that you will become delinquent its human nature for you.CH should practice what they preach which is customer serv with their workers too.we need to stop with that dominican mentality of take what you get and shut your mouth because there is nothing else out there..

I have sat and read majority of the comments posted under this article, and my God, believe me when I say that I am not making any excuse for the people who do not show up to work on a regular basis, but sometimes u cant blame them. I dont think that anyonwe who has not worked at clear harbor will understand what it is like to work there until they have actually worked there. Yes, the pay is great, better than ALOT of places in Dominica, and to be frank that is what keeps alot of people going back there day after day.Yes, we need to improve the attendance rate before we lose our client, but the management of CH needs to go back to the drawing board! come up with new strategies! And what my darling PM needs to look into is the fact that people who work 8 hr shifts, getting only 30 mins for lunch! If ur not in the kitchen, how the hell do u think ur going to know what the heat is like?

Alas papa bondieu…. Life good in Dominica wi…Fada put a hand on my people. I refuse to believe that people in other parts of the world have the same mindset as my Dominican people. As an immigrant I quickly learned that if you don”t work you don”t get paid and Boss doesnt care about your issue. he is only concerned about the success of his investment. what the CH employees need to realize is the fact that none of them are indispensable and they can easily be replaced. In all honestly many Dominicans have a very lackadasical attitude towards work and as the Americans say our work ethic really sucks. many of you are selfish and unappreciative. complaining about working on public holidays. Wonder what allu would do if allu had to find allu way work in snow, hail and below zero degrees temperature. Stupes this is just ridiculous.. Garcon go and work yah allu will do better.

things are not getting easier, its harder to find jobs everywhere not only in dominica, dominicans need to stop complain and do there work. its better to make 7.50 an hr than make none at all. when ch pack up and go kkk and ck will still be making their money while all u ass will be grass. thats very disappointing indeed, use to hear good things about the great work you guys are doin down there, what happened? when u go to work think of ur family, or the new shoes u wanna buy, or watever u need. People’s work ethics are the real problem here. I have worked at a call center, trained others to work there and now supervise a team. There are rules. Read the fine prints and learn the rules before taking the job. If you don’t like it, don’t take the job. It is not very hard.
Our people do not like the dicipline that comes with the job. They love to do their own thing.

Dominicans crack me up- we have ppl dat don’t work there that wanna give their opinion when they don’t know what it feels like- everyone’s saying the young ppl are nt serious. Well I’m 20 and I get to work everyday that I’m scheduled to work, so being young aint got nothing to do with it. I don’t see why ppl dock to go val, triple k and wck in dominica, they aint going nowhere, another sewo for them to play dere noisy music wuda must come again.all I checking is I went to work that day- I got my double pay, dat money is to go in a sewo when I off to spend money I actually have. All the workers there signed a contract stating that they are willing to work on holidays and weekends, plus most of the workers before they started workin there I’m sure they got a heads up bout how inside there really be, yet they still applied. I just checking yah inside dere can be a bull place sometimes and other times I just have to be thankful, becus if I wasn’t working there where wud I work? In a chiney store?? I have nothing against ppl working there but I have my family to help and the money I get by ch is more than enuff- at the end of the day we all have to understand the company does certain things to sustain itself, even if we look at it like is nonsense- but at the end of they day just complete ur 8hr shift or ur 10hr shift and roll out!! Yah it stressful but its becus we taking them tings to personal- I just checking run thru dem two weeks of work- get paid- save my money for bigger and better tings and run thru another 2 weeks to get paid again

Are u serious? Not even a junior clerk with the Government of Dominica makes the minimum salary at Clear Harbor at the end of the month. I worked at Clear Harbor but since then I migrated. Dominicans, yes it may be stressful like everywhere else but we have to be thankful for small mercies. Here it is u find a job, think of all the other unemployed ppl out there who wish they had a job to go to. The salary that CH pays is good if u ask me. U all believe tht the grass is always greener everywhere else, but when u move on,be it to another job in DA or another country u will find that u wasted the opportunities, time and good sense that u have.

Everyone outside of CH gets to comment because they have such great work ethic – I guess you love your job enough that as soon as this was posted you guys started commenting on this because you had nothing to do at work today? I guess your boss is that easy going. At CH there is no such thing. You get to sit there your entire shift listening to angry and dissatisfied customers whilst working 150% extra to maintain your targets. NOONE IN THIS COUNTRY get to comment about how CH employees should perform at their job, because what they provide to their client and their customers – we as a people so gravely lack — customer service. Noone outside of CH can comment about the “struggles” of the job – donot judge or go on with the abhorrent comments. If you dont feel appreciated by your job then you wont perform. Understandably its no excuse to miss work – especially for partying, however attendance has always been an issue because most employees are forced to take sick leaves because they cant call out with a headache one day out of the month. Your Prime Minister is bragging about efficacy and how imperative it is – but he’s not producing jobs for his youth. There is no upward or downward movement – not even side to side. The PM can only cry this down simply because he will be in hot oil if CH closes. However like most adults you work the job you have because you have NO OTHER CHOICE,(like all of you onlookers with the GREAT work ethic) if there were an option maybe then the CH client and its management will learn that the employees are just as important and in turn there may be some type of leniency towards the employees – who are actually human beings. Now one thing that struck my attention is this MORETOCOME individual – who went on about Blackberries and “accents”. If you listened to yourself speak you would be disgusted with yourself – what make you think/feel that an American who is offended that CH is an outsource – taking their jobs and their benefits would be happy to listen to your bullshit accent. You are simply jealous because CH workers are not InternetChildren. They spent hours on that phone to purchase their phones. You are ignorant and should not have commented – work at CH for a month; I dare you, and then comment about the type of work ethic these employees possess. Everyone is crying down these individuals, without them where would you the vender and bus driver be? Charging $3.00 to take an employee to work, and 8$ for a cheese sandwich. Is that what’s really bothering everyone? Before any promotion comes out they come to CH employees first!! Everyone who wants to sell their weave and their shorts and their shirts, approaches a CH employee first. Management is trying their best to indulge their employees’ plight – but sadly the robots they have created have become callous and careless. To the outsider looking in the workers may seem careless and irresponsible but these individuals are hard-working and take a lot to earn what they are.

    • February 2, 2012

first of all of u need to stop saying ‘young ppl’ and say some young ppl ,becus all u guys r doing is categorizing everybody in 1 group-keep in mind that while the party goers are out there having fun,the few of us trying to do the right thing are sittin in work,on calls, takin the stress, and doing our job..(I WORKIN BOTH CARNIVAL MONDAY AND TUESDAY AND I AINT SEEN A PUBLIC HOLIDAY IN 2 YEARS ) so WATCH THE ‘YOUNG PPL’ SPEECHS- those of u who dnt work at ch u need to verify ur information before speaking, becus really u only makin urselfs look like idiots-for those of u who do work at ch ,we kno how it is,and we kno that that’s pretty much how its gonna get. so while u in them ppl building ‘ON AMERICAN SOIL’ do the job the best u can and when u leave at the end of ur shift THANK GOD ,becus the work not following u home and u DON’T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE BULL***** UNTIL U RETURN TO WORK THE NEXT DAY.

C H Worker you are so wrong. We in the U.S.A take our work very serious. I spent 4 years in the Military same thing, only reason you can be absent you must get your sick butt to the Hospital and bring the Dr. note to your Boss before you can go back home and be sick! Same thing I worked 15 years at the Post Office you need a Dr. note you can bring it in the next working day. You are also drug tested at random. So my advise to you and everyone else in Dominica if you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen! You can’t make it State side with lazy bones!

  69. February 1, 2012

What else do we expect? We have a lawless society, poor role models. Poor work ethics, These are the important priorities for Dominica.

We need to address the poor work habits in Dominica; and until we do that we are doomed to fail.

The thing these kids dont get it, if they lose that job there right now there is absolutely no other choice for them but migrate. Now even migrating is becoming a problem. i believe we have a serious cultural issue in Dominica. we need to do some deep soul searching as a people. And on the american holidays you gotta work 4 times as hard cause the us centers as closed to give their workers a day to be off when everybody else is.
Maybe managemntv should look into at least giving half of the staff one holiday and the other half another holiday and find a way to make up for those will not be present. at least let the staff feel like they are being a fair chance to enjoy a holiday with their family.

The PM must stop trying to think he has a magic wang, he might have been a contributer to some extent due to the introduction of the red clinic. CH LEARN TO TREAT YOUR PEOPLE RIGHT AND THEY WILL COME TO WORK! while this is no excuse for some people who are really lazy but its more to it than what the eyes see. if you dont know jack!!!its best you keep quiet!and by giving out a story like this to DNO dont you think it would be worst if the “client” sees this …news like this spreads fast especially over the internet …..the client may now become more concerned about us not being able to manage our mouths rather than absenteesim!

I took a look at all comments about sick leave and times are hard and we must hold on to our Jobs. I agree with the attendance policy totally, people need to work if they are scheduled. What i do not agree with is the sick leave being unjust as this job has a lot of health issue, eyes, ears, being stressful just to name a few.. I could go on and on and on.. You need two hands to clap and certain things are not fair because we are all humans at the end of the day.. Constructive critisism, I think the same way when other islands have there activities and Dominicians have to cover, I think if this is explained then other people could pull the weight through out the company.. The majority of people do not have responsibilities and do not care if they are in a job or not, which is another topic, but you should know your staff and put incentives in place or come up with an action plan to solve it other than pointing fingers.

I am not surprised. If it rains too hard in Dominica that’s a valid reason to call out or show up to work late. If work ends at 4pm by 3pm the workers clear their desk to go home leaving incomplete work. Dominicans have VERY POOR work ethics. With that attitude they will NEVER survive in an American work system.

Welcome to the real world my dear. I have worked at call centers in the USA and its zero tolerance for inefficiency. Workers need to take their work serious. If what I see in other business places on island is any example of what is going on at clear harbor then I totally understand the complaint.

The various attitude will not work with an American company. Sometimes I wish that companies would spend time training their workers. Dominica pride itself on rude customer service so much so that when we come from the USA they tell us this is not America. When Clear Harbor start to release them only then will they understand. Strictness and consistency is what makes America produce great customer service. Customer is always right is the modus operandus of American customer service. Customers on island are treated poorly.

CH Employee don’t fool yourself…customer care reps come a dime a dozen. Don’t forget CH closed one of it’s Caribbean location and I’m sure the reps were saying CH need us more than you think. This company can take it’s business somewhere else. I work for a company where the employers are strict and it’s not fair to the hard working employees like you or me but we are there to do a job and as long as we are employed we should do the job to the best of our ability. Calling out or faking an illness just because someone don’t want to miss a carnival show is not fair to the other employees, or the customers you serve. If you have concerns then take it up with your boss or his boss. If all else fails then blow the whistle on them. The headquarters is located in 3030 Royal Blvd S # 150 Alpharetta, GA 30022-3789
      (678) 566-3212. If you feel the company doesn’t value your hard work then contact CBSAtlanta and depends on what proof you give them they will launch an investigation and ask the tuff questions…they do it every day

“SO IN TURN WE JUST GVE A DAM EITHER”
Eh beh ou pas feb, LOL.

CH made a strategic decision to invest in DA. That decision was based, in part, on the assessment (rightly/wrongly)that DA possessed a reliable and stable workforce. If CH determines that the current efficiency and workforce attitudes are not in keeping with minimum acceptable deliverables, then they will simply have to re-stategize and take their business elsewhere, leaving a few hundred more Dominicans unemployed. But, of course, you won’t lose a wink of sleep over that since you already don’t give a dam. No sweat, beau pere Skerro will conjure up another investor to replace CH in quick time. In these hard and economic times where jobs are hard to find not only in Dominica but the rest of the world people need to understand that as much as a job may not be all that u want it to be still treasure it. if u all don’t wanna do the job and care about it, then move aside and make way for persons who are desperate and would appreciate it better. A honest day’s work for a honest day’s pay. u all would rather dock work and go opening of carnival that will always be around then stay and make an honest pay?? p.s…tell the am/pm get his facts straight and stop spread his propaganda…the pay is 1440 not 1676…and for the demands that is to be met the workers are underpaid as most dominicans are from their employers….im just saying…

while it is true that there needs to be some work donme withb the work ethics of Dominicans we also need to look into whatv cause it ..

It isnt easy to work on there for 10 hours listening to the verbal abuse of customers for most of the shift . some usually pissed cause they speaking to an outsourcer.
so you have to the verbal abuse and try to think of doing everything right on the calls. make sure you say the things they ask you to say and remember nto inclusde every little detail. not it is extrenmly mentally exhausting to do that on 80 calls everyday.

Now rebellion is part of the human mentality, unfortunately it is having a sad effect on the company and on Dominica.

though we are the developing country it still sucks to be working on every holiday your country has, you better pray on one of your off days fall on a holiday or you will be working on everyb holiday including new years, carnival and christmas. we need to stop making everything in this country political. numbers never lie. 37 percent of the staff were absent on saturday which ironically coincided with the opening of carnival festivities.the prime minister is totally within his right to comment on this as clear habour employs a substantial amount of dominicans who in turn affect our economy. it is high time that our young people develop a level of professionalism and accountability at the work place. you enjoy the salary and all it brings so give your employer he’s just due.

I agree that the work ethics needs some worok, however when you out you dont know what it feels like. itv isnt easy to be in there working for the 8 hours taking the verba abus from the customers and then it is so memtally frustarting to think of doing all kinds of things right on the calls, sayin exactly what jhe need yu to say and WHEN and then be sure to keep teh call under a certain amount of time try to stay on without using hold with someone who keeps cursng and yelling at you. the pay seems sooo good to everyone who doent know the mental frustration that comes with it. In case you did not know CH has no national Holidays. and i understand that in the developing countries its like that in some comapnies. But if we are realistiuce when human being feel they are being robbed of something they use small ways to rebell. sadly thus formn of rebellionn is affecting the entre country and the people who actually need the job. It isnt easiy sittng in there every National holiday and then when the american agents have a holiday you still stuck doing 2 tmes more work because they get holidays but you dont. you just need to pray one of your off days falls on a National holiday or else you will be working on New-Years day, Carnival Monday and tuesday, Easter , Mayday, Christmas day, Boxing day, ect …
Maybe Managemnet should look into giving half of the shift at leat one national Holiday and the other half a different holiday and offer a skeleton crew to make up for those who wanna come cover for those given the option of enjoying that holiday.

I dont hear Grenada with the same issue but umm i heard they get at least their indepence day off . True?

I’m Dominican work for the IBM corporation for over 6 years now in a call center.
We have a Point System going on.You have to be ON TIME at the center. Not five minutes late, lest you get half of a point. You call out an hour before work you get 1 point and if you call out half an hour before work,or no call no show then you get 2 points. If it amounts to 8 points, then you are fired.
At my job only way a point can be removed would be with a doctor’s note.We get 15 mins break and 30 mins lunch.Based on how many extra minutes you spend on your break or lunch for teh week,it can lead to adding half of a point.
For the past six years I only have just one point, and that was because I decided to take a personal day off; sister was visiting.
People need to take their jobs seriously. It has to do with attendance and committment;being disciplined. There are countless amount of people out there with no jobs at all for years.
Clear Harbour needs to adopt the point system. At least it will show how much people are committed to their work.

Our favourite/most important activity in Dominica is Sewo, what you expect the young people to give priority to. When we want them to vote for us we give them Sewo rather than serious debate on developmental issues.

We need to cultivate in our young people values that would make them responsible. Too many young persons take life too lightly and appear to have no sense of purpose. You cannot play with your job. It’s your bread and butter. Parents, stop bailing out your children every time. Let them learn to be responsible and purpose-oriented. Practice tough love.

this is a shame!!!!!!!! I worked for the company and left a few months ago because of personal matters and I must say Clear Harbor is one of the best things Dominicans have ever gotten. Yes its hard work but nothing comes free.
I use to show up to work at lease an hour early and instead of being applauded i was teased and nagged, “boy you sort, u coming work so early, u doe have a home?” And then there’re all the rumors of what goes on with the employees. They fail to realise that if clear Harbor has improved the quality of life by far in Dominica. Everyone has a Blackberry, nails well done, clothes ordered online and always keeping up with the latest fashion. Yet, they fail to simply be a good employee. I hope they remember what happened in st.Kitts not to long ago. THEY WERE SHUT DOWN because of the very same problem!!!!!

It is not easy working there. You have limited resources to work with. There is a big disconnect between the main office and the call centres. They also make it mandatory that you make 2 sales a day. You may try really hard may get none. Also, they could pay more. Compare to the US what Dominicans get is peanuts. But mainly the stress comes from Comcast disconnect with the call centre. There need to be a direct link. This is the issue with all call centres in general.

      February 1, 2012

Well the one thing we cannot do is to change the nature of the job. A call center is a call-center which means that the requirements and expectations are the same. “Limited Resources” is waking up in the morning and not having breakfast for your children. “Limited Resources” is watching your life waste away and not have an opportunity to do anything about it.
Making 2 sales a day or working within the realm of responsibility that you applied for and remain in, is not necessarily a bad thing.
If there were a direct link from Comcast to CH, shed 11 at Canefield Industrial Estates would be empty or making soaps; not a call-center. No client would stand for someone complaining about the requirements of the job that they get paid for.
We need them more than they need us, and don’t be greedy, CH pays more than the average job in Dominica and they give everyone a fair chance. Do you think that Astaphans would tolerate someone who complains about making two sales out of an 8 hour shift? i think not!

      • ClearHarbor Worker
        February 1, 2012

dont be a fool…we are not in the sales department therefore it is quite hard to make 2 sales in one day when you work in a department where the customer calls in yelling at you stating their bill is too high!!!!!! get ya act togetha and shut ur trap…Astaphans have customers coming in to BUY…we have customers calling in because they want to pay less not ADD MORE YOU NINCOMPOOP (spelt wrong but u making my blood boil)

      letmetell you,

HOw does your write up explain the 36% absents last week end? It is quite understanderble if you do not make 2 sales each Day. if your average # of sale per day is 2 less than 2 then that becomes a problem for the company. You will not be adding any value to the company from it’s vantage point.

My only advice to all employees would be to exercise determination dedication and disciplineat your job and you will become a valuable asset to the firm

With any business you need a good number of some older wiser heads in the mix to balance things out. Why is the Prime Minister directly involved in a Private Sector Business Management issue?

I don’t get it. If employees are displaying poor work ethics isn’t this a problem to be solved by the Management of that company? Is there a special arrangement in place?

The Labour Standards (1967) Act is very clear on this issue. Workers can not absent themselves from work without informing their supervisor within a reasonable period of time and provided valid reasons for the absence.

There is also a process to dismiss employees which must be followed by ALL companies operating on island.

The PM has never worked in the private sector, never managed any private sector enterprise and may well be clueless on how the private sector works or what is required to improve efficiency in the private sector.

Parry Bellot recently issued a damning report on the levels of productivity in the Public Sector which is where the PM should be concentrating since the buck stops with him when it comes to the Public Sector.

He should therefore concentrate on putting his house (the Public Sector) in order before he delves into the Private Sector where as I said above he has no experience and may well lack the technical knowhow to give any useful advise to Private Sector Management.

Yes, but since everyone seems to have shares in CH, then it is kind of hard to reprimand without being reprimanded.
I take it that is why the PM is taking a personal interest because he cares about the sustenance of his country and his people and he sees the value added.

I’m really not surprised but embarrassed that it took a foreign owned company to put us on blast. It is clearly obvious that a large portion of the working force has poor work ethic. it is evident during creole festival, at cricket events and now opening of carnival city. Also, when visiting several key business, yes, even the banks there is a lack of customer service and the laid back attitude displayed by staff members.

Clear harbor provides decent salaries and we have to do everything in our power to keep them in Dominica. We don’t want to become like St. Kitts. The US companies are all about profits and pay people to monitor performance, profits etc. Most importantly they will not waste any time in closing down or reducing the labor force if their business suffers for stupidity like poor work ethic.

Let’s please work on improving that.

Clear harbor is an American Company. That’s how they do things. Dominicas in this company haven’t worked for an American before so it’s a rude awakening as they expect work and pay minimum. The things is the pay that Dominicans getting at clear harbor is good by Dominican standards. This is why they should appreciate what they . Many of them can’t move to the US if that’s there behavior . You can trust that being in time every time and meeting goals are top priority. So stop rambling on about this and that. You acting like they need Dominican people. If clear harbor can find some Indians to this work for them for half the cost, they will close down so fast. They don’t need Da people. well i guess unemployed workers will have voices to go to the PM’s office begging for jobs and hand-outs after CH closes down because of lack of presence and performance. How about that?
Per the PM, he met with the owners of CH and was told that they are very interested in the welfare of Dominica and Dominicans. I am absolutley positive that if these people wanted Indians, they would have already gotten them after 6 years of inadequate competence.

If they decide to emigrate to the US, UK (or anywhere else), how do you think they’ll survive in the work force.

Sad fact is if CH is not satisfied, then they’ll take their business elsewhere, and what do you think the general outcome will be (word travels fast).

India is crying out for more call centres, and those employed in them are hard working, grateful people.

Yes they might not be treated right…so then they should quit..and just allow people to go through the system…if they don’t want to quit…then they should kiss ass and behave them selves in an orderly manner…and be on time….this is a big investment…and the investors can pull out whenever they wish….so the idea of a mini revolution against the bad treatment is a dumb idea!!

That is the problem when you bring developed counntry levels of expectation to a developing country. These people are not ready for prime time. Sewo trumps every thing. Never mind they might not have a job tomorrow.

I am sorry to admit that Dominicans have very poor work ethics. It is a shame and disgrace.

Be careful…this is the Internet. Potential employers/investors may be deterred by the “extreme dominican” comment.

Civil servants have poor work ethics, not Dominicans. Alot of privately employed persons respect time alot. J.Astaphans, as a matter of fact is so rigid when comes to time and on the job conduct, it is sickening. lol…so let’s be mindful…some Dominicans work very hard.

you Dominicans need to realise that is we the ch workers that know what is going on. our staff lack discipline and need to get their priorities straight. iagree that people can be genuinely sick but some of the doctors over do it as well as our staff. ch workers if we doh buck up 16% of the staff will be gone not to mention the work load not decreasing if they fire more. let us stop acting like asses and according to the I T “get our acts together”. come one time to f ing grow up we all need money and ch that running things da. remember that
