CIBC First Caribbean International Bank has joined other private sector entities by coming on board in a recently launched community based, non-profit organization aimed at solving and preventing crime in Dominica.
On Tuesday the bank presented an EC$2,000 cheque to the Executive Director of Crime Stoppers, Genevieve Astaphan, at a brief ceremony at its Old street location.
“We welcome CIBC –First Caribbean to the family of Crime stoppers,” she said. “And we are very pleased to announce that all of the banks in Dominica have joined and on board and we look forward to a continued relationship with first Caribbean. So I will be here every year at this time to pick up a cheque.”
Rhonda Lawrence, Business Support Officer at CIBC said the bank is pleased to make the presentation.
“We are happy to be here this morning to make a presentation to Crime Stoppers in Dominica as they continue in their efforts to reduce the crime rates in Dominica and we know that our presentation will take them a long way on their continued journey, as we try to make Dominica a safe place,” she said.
“Crime Stoppers Dominica” was incorporated under the laws of Dominica on September 12, 2012 and has been accepted by the police as a valid and effective investigative tool.
Persons who have witnessed a crime or any criminal activity and who don’t want to talk directly to the police can either call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (1-800-8477) or 1-800-HINT (1-800-4468) or log in to Crime Stoppers website to submit a complaint.
The organization said all calls and website complaints are answered by a Canadian-based call center.
