The Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA) has elected a new president in the person of senior tour operator, Jonathan Vidal.
He received 20 votes at a DHTA’s elections held on Wednesday during the its annual general meeting
This is the fourth time that Vidal will serve as president on the DHTA board.
Renee Whitchurch Aird-Douglas was elected vice president, Gwenith Whitford was elected secretary and Vanessa Prevost elected as the new treasurer
Four other persons were elected to serve as directors of the DHTA board until 2014. They are Daniel Nunez, Daryl Aaron, Hervé Nizard and Tanaquil Pfund.
In the meantime, former Vice President of the DHTA Maxine-Alleyne Espirit proposed to the incoming board prior to elections that directors who serve a full term should receive some form of rebate.
“It is a voluntary position and none of us get paid for this,” she said. “It is an important thing to do because you have volunteers who serve and take time away from their business and I think just as a form of recognition for their contribution the new board should consider this.”
Hi Jon…nice to hear about you man…..you look great…SMA together..

Also the Immediate Past President on the Board is Yvonne Armour
The Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA) has to work together with the New Town Council of Roseau. We all have to work together as citizens to make Roseau and better and cleaner city. We need travellers/visitors to appreciate our city.
If it is a volunteer position, by definition you should not be renumerated. If you take a stipend it ceases to be a volunteer position.
You have to decide what it is. It cannot be both.
volunteers are given stipends to cover travel costs etc. This does not negate volunteerism. And I think to miss the actual point would be a shame. There are many community/industry organizations that persons get involved with in order to make some sort of difference, but running a small business is hard and taking time away to do what is usually a significant amount of work tasked to a few on behalf of many at least deserves consideration of concession.
It should not be a voluntary post.
