BUSINESS BYTE: Digicel supports observance of Francophonie Month

DIGICEL CURRENT LOGOIn recognition of Francophonie Month, Digicel has joined efforts with the Ministry of Education and the National Francophonie Commission to present a calendar of activities which will be held throughout the month of March.

Digicel Dominica has joined over 79 other countries in celebrating Francophonie Month. As a sponsor, Digicel has embraced the teaching and learning of the French language, culture and customs. The management and staff of Digicel is ecstatic to embrace this occasion by supporting our students in the various schools.

We will support two of the planned activities for Francophonie Month, to include the Primary Schools’ Festival which will be held on Wednesday 16th March and the inaugural Goodwill Primary School Cooking competition carded for Friday March 18th. The lucky winners will be awarded with prizes from Digicel to include; 7” Tablets, smartphones and broadband internet service.

“Digicel has been a major sponsor for the Primary Schools’ Festival since it was launched by the Ministry of Education five years ago. The Ministry of Education awards the top French student from every primary school and Digicel has contributed the tokens to all forty students, on an annual basis. The winners of the French quiz and spelling bee competitions also benefited from tablets and or smart phones and top ups sponsored by the company. Digicel has also supported the festival by providing tents to assist the schools with their bar arrangements.

This year is no exception and Digicel has also added extra sponsorship of tokens, to be presented to the students participating in the Goodwill Primary School’s cooking competition. The Ministry of Education is very proud to have Digicel as a major sponsor for the Annual Primary Schools French Festival and hopes that the winner of the French Spelling Bee competition can be adopted by the company as a form of extra support for the development of French on the island,” commented Charlene White-Christian, Modern Language Coordinator of the Ministry of Education.

Nathalie Walsh, Marketing Manager of Digicel also stated, “La Francophonie was created to promote dialogue and develop political and economic solidarity between French speaking peoples and therefore we applaud the Ministry of Education in their efforts at promoting principles of Francophonie. Digicel, encourages all Dominicans to support the planned initiatives.”
