DMA expresses disappointment in trade show exclusion

Saverin McKenzie

The Dominica Manufacturers Association (DMA) has expressed disappointment in being excluded from ‘Semaine de la Dominique’ held in Guadeloupe recently.

The December 3rd to 7th event, was an undertaking by the National Export Council Secretariat (NECS) under the Ministry responsible for Trade and the Commune of Le Lamentin in the French island .

According the NECS, the event was aimed at conducting “market research and establish strategic linkages with key buyers in Guadeloupe which would lead to increased exports of Dominican products and services in the the next two years and, to enhance Dominica’s image in Guadeloupe through the promotion of services, products and culture and create a better understanding of the Guadeloupe/French market.”

Speaking on state-owned DBS radio, Public Relations Officer of the DMA, Severin Mc Kenzie, said he could not understand why his organization was excluded from such an event and hopes that it was an oversight.

“We’ve been doing promo products hoping to see if we can export our products … that they (National Export Council Secretariat) could have organized such an activity excluding the DMA …” he said.

Mc Kenzie further disclosed that despite the disappointment, plans for the first ever DMA-initiated Buy Dominica Shopping Day will proceed.

“But inspite of that we have decided to proceed and hoping that this was an oversight and they will recognize that the DMA is doing all that we can to help and we should have the same agenda’ Mc Kenzie said.

Buy Dominica is being organized by the DMA in conjunction with the Dominica Arts and Craft Producers Association (DACPA) to heighten the sale of genuine Dominican products.

Buy Dominica is expected to take place on December 20 and 21 at the Roseau Market.

When DNO contacted Mc Kenzie for further comment on the matter he said he did not want to divert the attention from Buy Dominica but will deal with it after the event.

Efforts to contact the National Export Council Secretariat on Monday morning were unsuccessful as DNO was told that NECS employees were attending a workshop.

Proud Domnije: “wait for the other side of the story before judging, complaining and spewing hate…Lord look upon my country and fellowmen and women in 2013!”

Well-spoken. Great idea. This is how it is supposed to be…we first get ALL the facts then, we conclude. However, in the last decade, Dominicans have been taught to do otherwise. Only one side, “MY” side, matters.

This explains why no government official has publicly sanctioned the BUY DOMINICA CHRISTMAS SHOPPING DAYS organized by the Dominica Manufacturer’s Association.

I often wonder why Dominicans call for inquires into Affairs and other aspects in Dominica..

This is typical reason why Dominica is in the Dull And Unattractive, way too much ego and nothing to show By persons.

Dominica is not a island where they think Bigger,That’s why the economy is “DEAD”

Maybe citizens need to be much more heads up and Active in terms of being firm by actions, not Calling the RADIO TALK SHOWS!!

I Firmly would recommend a ease off the talk shows
Citizens get way too comfortable and nothing bears Fruit..

In 1979 the active grassroots movements were key
As Radio talks were not around, but results Happened!

Lack of vision. Lack of foresight. I think the move was deliberate. How many members of the DMA openly support the ruling party? Whenever DMA put their position forward the DLP does not give dem a listening ear. Port duties, VAT etc.

I am just not surprised…………………………..Dream on my boy

A Trade Expo and the Manufacturer’s Association is not involved? Yet the organizers are reporting success?
Is it possible to do anything properly in Dominica? What is the logic in having a trade mission to Guadeloupe and excluding the Manufacturer’s Association? ……….$100K worth of sales for 60 participants or $1,666.00 per person for one week. How much did it cost to stage the event?
If it was not sponsored by DFID it would have been an unprofitable exercise.
Move on DMA, I will support your BUY DOMINICA CHRISTMAS SHOPPING DAYS.

Oversight Mackenzie? Brother you should not be ashamed to standup and admit that you are partly responsible for monster that is on the back of Dominica at this point. You are on radio almost every 3 weeks trying to market your product and omehow they forgot your business unit. Brother they bought along three Belle groups and many more redundants and you are trying to be politically correct or diplomatic? You are way smarter than that. Brother the only thing that did not happen is that Charlo did not come on the radio to ask Laborats to boycot your business. I can tell you for sure dont expect good tidings from this gang- take it from me brother
You remember a a fellow Cuban graduate – the doctor who was involved in selecting SKERRIT as leader they herd that he is calling a gooseberry a gooseberry and they are pissed off. The thing is he is right now in the USA and the money he was getting for being ambassador of a certain central Americn country is no longer coming his way.
I do respect you as a man who chose to work hard rather than to grovel and become a pole la cous like Peeping Tom, Observer and others. You are a persistent individual and have been an example to some of our young men and womn

Mamizoo, as much as you and others would like to display your tendencies for orgasmic responses, here are some facts relating to the article.

      1. The article cites the exclusion of the Dominica Manufacturers Association (DMA), NOT Mr. McKenzie’s business. How then do you run along making those wild associations and claims?
      2. I have heard Mr. McKenzie, himself, commend the government for the support given to his paper business. So, your suggestion that the gentleman’s personal business has been targeted in a campaign to destroy it is at best, foolish.
      3. Mr. McKenzie is PRO of the DMA, he is not even the head. Again, how do you make the link between the DMA’s absence and the PRO of the association? Very wobbly logic, Mamizoo. Humpty Dumpty would be proud of you!
      4. Why was the DMA absent from the trip to Guadeloupe? If you have the answer, please inform the world and Mr. McKenzie. Now, again, resist the urge to resort to orgasmic responses, they only make you look empty.

Same thing i was telling Peeping Tom on another thread, here is a fellow Dominican manufacturing to build his country, and here is a Govt doing everything possible for him to fail, to bring him on his knees, so he can join the longggggg lines at the red clinic, u see why sugar run Anguilla. I bet u if Mc Kenzie migrate he will do well.

      December 17, 2012

Morihei, first why are you so quick to believe every piece of bad news that you hear? Do we know why the Dominica Manufacturers Association was not part of the delegation to Guadeloupe? No. We have to wait for this information before we can safely conclude that the Association was deliberately and unjustly excluded.

Second, do you realize that it is the same government that you accuse of “doing everything possible” for Dominican enterprises to fail that has sanctioned this excursion to Guadeloupe? In other words, my friend, while you accuse the DLP administration of deliberately working against local businesses, the facts show quite the contrary: That the government is going as far as Guadeloupe in an effort to boost local businesses.

Peeping Tom you an idiot. Your expression is an indication of your heightened biasness and deliberate ignorance. ” the government is prepared to go as far as Guadeloupe in an effort to boost local businesses” lol. Bloke Dominica has been trading with Guadeloupe for more than donkey years. What is laughable is that Guadeloupe is a wink eye away yet this Jack SSA is talking about ” as far as Guadeloupe” The fool did not say Zmoroo , China or Venezuela.
