DOMLEC – the Dominica Electricity Services had a good year in 2011, according to a front page story of the Chronicle newspaper.
The paper quotes the company as reporting a profit of $7.75 million for the financial year 2011, said to be up from the average $6 million profits of recent years.
Shareholders are expected to benefit, with DOMLEC reported to be increasing dividends paid to them to 8.75 cents per share in 2011 compared to 7.5 cents in 2010.
The company is reported to have achieved significant gains by investing in infrastructure, as well as from the use of what’s described as smart metering technology.
Record low numbers of power outages is another area of “success” being reported.
How on God’s earth that the Dominica Government can allow Domlec to make such a PROFIT (not total sales) on the backes of Dominicans? Can’t they do ok with about a milion profit? That way every poor malewe will save about $433.00 a year. That could go a long way.
But wait, how much TAX did Government collect from Domlec’s operation in 2011?
I think Government is the biggest benefactor of Domlec operation.
we really need that geothermal on stream, a new power company named LABOUR POWER!!! lol let PM be the CEO.. mandated to coulay that greedy domlec there…. smh there is no compassion in the world today, we have lost the fear of god.
in a 70000 island population with about 30 percent unemployed and another 28 percent extremely poor, civil servants can hardly pay their bills.
almost 8 million, that is like $11071 a year for each OF THE 70000 persons living in dominica.
and there is talk that things will get worst towards the end of the year..
and i hearing some idiots commenting on geothermal where they have to dig for energy, instead they could erect 5 wind turbines in grandbay,5 in delices, 5 in pond casse and five in penville. these are the places identified as high winds areas…
I DOH EVEN KNOW IF GOD WILL HELP US AGAINST THEM CORRUPT BLOOD LIKE CREATURES.
They make all thst profit, and the want to give the workers 1.5% raise. Shame on you domlec.
Voleh they voleh so
MORE THEY MAKE, MORE THEY STEEL PEOPLE MONEY!!!
STUPES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And these blokes still want to be part and parcel of the geothermal project? They really mean to squeeze blood out of stone.
One more report to be made public. How much of our social security is being exported as profits?
Smart reaping of our pockets.
this kind of profit on a population of less than 70 thousand people!this is what is wrong with dominica!!!don’t worry folks summer is right there so another increase base on fuel charge is here . . . . .mooooreeeeeeeeeee profit!!
Oh come on people! Do you know what happens to private companies who makes losses? Domlec isn’t a non-profit organization or public. And we all know about the productivity of these publicly owned entities with statutory boards. Profits are a good measure of a Company’s efficiency and a means of continuity…just saying. How do you stay afloat with 60,000 people? It is how it is; my people. So look for the energy star and research appliances before you buy them. Turn off your transformers when not in use. If your refrigerator is half your power bill then you should probably change it..do the maths. FYI, Domlec’s profit is rather minute comparing to other Caribbean countries in the same industry.
Domlec is literally bragging about their significant gains? I have no animosity against any company generating some profits, but their reasons for the profits are pure garbage. Smart metering and infrastructure? At who’s cost?
I have seen my bill increased to a record 41%, without any improvement in service, but the surcharge keeps mounting. The people are struggling to pay their bills, and they’re reporting millions in profits.
Of course they made a profit! With their ridiculous stories of high fuel surcharge!!! The consumers are always the losers!! They should be ashamed to report such profits when the consumers have been crying for years and we only keep seeing increases in our light bills!! Let me see what’s gonna happen with the geothermal electricity! I just hope they will have no part in that or else we will be finished here!
let there be light
seriously Domlec need to ease up on poor people abit. to much high electricity bill. i just dont understand, we have rivers, we have sun, we have wind, we have geothermal why poor people feeling that burden on their backs from Domlec???
I buying $50.00 light when i enter it on my meter i only getting thirty something dollars worth! that hard!
with that two sur charge and two fuel charge that on ppl bills domlec must make high profit. i like how they mention “smart metering technology” taking another high priced bill up my s…congrats domlec!
when operating in a country of 60,ooo plus people domlec makes 7.75 million this tell you how high the cost of electricity in dominica
No concern now about locals controlling our electricity generation. The same authorities and politicians, who were so vocal that DOMLEC should be locally owned, allowed WRB, a foreign Co. to buy it over.
That same foreign Co. partnered with DSS and now also controls MARPIN Telecoms, which was locally owned as well. Have men and women among us lost their reason? No more hooray about Petro Caribe come to reduce on our electricity bills and lower fuel at the pumps? Have bills reduced? Gasolene is now $15.60 /gall. No more talk about DOMLEC being locally owned? Now is OK?
How easily our people fall for falsehoods. Expect to pay a high price for allowing yourselves to be so manipulated.
and electricity prices still going up, these people don’t want the poor man to be able have a decent meal man, all they do is rob the freaking poor people with no remorse. I hope that profit will mean a drop in rates.
yesssssssssssssssssss i domlec..7.75 million dollars profit????well i guess is domlec economy thats booming anyways…..
Please don’t expect the Government to influence any change in rates. Allu doh know what deal they and them fellas have.
Congratulations to Domlec management on their hard work with results, keep it up, u are a role model for other companies in Dominica.
dats nothing to be proud of domlec…pressing us with these high bills..ease up on the bill and den a 1-2 million profit will be a much rewarded one..choops
just take all people money
so how much profit does lime make per year?
atleast you have a choice with lime. you dont have to take anything from them but everyone needs light
Ah, ah, magway sa. We have to continue suffering with high rates!
how bout easing up on the high rates for electricity, if u making 7 million profit then ease us up a bit nuh, what the regulators saying bout that
Profit on poor ppl money that’s a shame! They need some competition
And a Damn Shame too that it some of it not even reflecting on staff pay cheque
Government should nationalize DOMLEC and lower the cost of power in Diminica!!!
And here I am trying to pay a bill of $500.00 a month without hot water and without ac in my home.
Awa dont blame the company. I had that same high bill and now i have just 250 paying. Get a better fridge it will pay back itself in a year, get efficient bulbs, stop leaving chargers plugged in. My bill so low now, I know they will send people to check my meter just now.
AWAH!! Your meter not good.
$500.00 a month??? are you serious? Is that the kind of light bill you all are paying in DA? OMG
this is crazy this is some wickedness Wow something is definitely wrong with Domlec and that picture. No wonder they can boast of high profit magwaysah smh
chhuuupees….yal need competition rates yal charging is ridiculous
AND THERE IS NO ROOM FOR COMPETITON , SO THEY CAPITALIZING ON THAT!!!!!!!!!!
