The Ministry for Employment, Trade, Industry and Diaspora Affairs is looking to combine its Small Business Support Unit with its Employment Agency to form an umbrella organization named Employment and Small Business Support Agency’.
Minister Collin McIntyre said the merger should take effect within the next three months.
He said the ministry is currently scouting for an executive director to run the dual organization and has already secured the services of a technical director.
Permanent Secretary of the ministry Steve Ferrol said the new unit will run entirely on the needs of the “current” labor market and a database will be compiled through the assistance of a survey which is to start soon.
“We hope the agency can be that hub for employment statistics and data,” the permanent secretary said.
Good initiative by the Government. We are waiting with positive spirits. At the end of the day, it will better Dominica. Hoping and praying this comes through soon.
