The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development announces Friday, June 3, as Dollar Day in all Dominican schools.
Dollar Day is held annually when each child can make a contribution of at least one dollar to the Education Trust Fund.
“The Education Trust Fund has, over the years, provided the funds that assisted many students to successfully complete secondary education and go on to become productive and contributing members of society,” Chief Education Officer Melena Fontaine told principals in a communiqué.
She urged principals to encourage all students and teachers to make a contribution.
The Education Trust Fund was established in 1981 through an act of parliament to assist students experiencing difficulty attending secondary school.
Monies obtained through fundraising efforts assist with the purchase of books, transportation, and registration and exam fees.
The Government of Dominica provides a yearly subvention to the fund.
This sounds like a great idea.
(a) It teaches students the blessing of giving. If they experience the joy of sharing and helping a good cause it is something that will stay with them for a lifetime.
(b) There are students who need help and with this assistance they will be able to move on in life. This can only benefit society and make Dominica a better place.
I would want to KNOW that all the money would reach students who had an honest and genuine need for this kind of assistance. You have a right to ask what system of accountability is in place.
This program is not intended to be another opportunity for you to criticize the Government and chew out its Chief Education Officer. Ms. Fontaine, along with others who are pulling their share, are trying to help young people reach worthy goals in life.
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.
Ignorant to good. Your children is your responsibility not the government, Mayshastey magwee sar

Give it to them big man…tell them to bend over more. SMH
We had a “Dollar a year” minister who did nothing for us but he is now worth in the millions, and they want us to invest dollar a day in our schools. Tell Skerrit and St. Jean to give all principals and teachers a license to sell passports so that they too and our schools will not have to ask for a dollar a day
Not my dollar they’re getting, two years ago i had two daughters sat common entrance, they never give me a penny as a single mom but people with one child get the $500. To date I’ve put three children through high school no help from them.. them!
Jerry stop being negative. For all you know you benefited from the fund to attend school. your extended family may have. Where is the attitude of giving we must cultivate?
It’s a very good idea and people please give as much as you can. God Bless. My son will be giving more than a dollar!
What about targeting the millions of agents who are selling our passports to contribute to the fund???Where am I getting the dollar? From the Red Clinic??
Where the million of Dollars they have giving not spending giving? Mind me minister. My child not giving what I don’t have.
