Hotel on the cards for Woodford Hill

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit

The construction of a new hotel in Woodford Hill could commence soon.

Government has resolved all legal matters that were impeding the transfer of land in Woodford Hill to the joint venture company set up by government and GEEST Industries for the purpose of constructing a hotel there.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit Roosevelt, speaking at the official opening of the Japanese-funded fisheries complex in Portsmouth last week, said government can now pave the way to mobilize the financing needed for that project.

“With this matter now settled, the company can now progress to the stage of mobilizing the refinancing needed for implementation of that project. Government is also pleased and encouraged by the investment of local private sector in the Picard area,” he said.

Skerrit said the DLP government-while seeking to bring development to all communities in Dominica-want to pay special emphasis on development of the north and north east of Dominica.

Mr PM, any reason why the former Layou River Hotel remains abandoned when their is an anxious gentleman waiting to put his money down to start work on that project? And why the silence since that court case. The former AG said that a committee was formed to oversee that project: we are yet to hear of the composition of that committee or see or hear of any progress reports. What short memory your people have.

I think that any country that has a leader who is not an economist, has less than 25% chance of being economically empowered. As much as i would like to see more hotels building in Dominica, i would rather we invest in an international airport. Put proper legislation in place, to make here a more investor friendly country, for investors to come invest here and grow the economy. We need Sandals, Hiltons etc here, not Gov and cronies building appartment buildings and calling them hotels. Someone please relay this message to our P.M, go Antigua or St lucia and stay two nights at a sandals, eat at 3-4 of the 7 restaurants in the hotel. Observe what a real hotel is…. Then come Dominica get your gov act in order and then come talk to the people about hotels.

Skerro your pastor friend in the north is an honest businessman who has been trying for years to build a hotel near Melville Hall Airport. Why isn’t the government helping him?Help locals! He has everything he needs except money is what am hearing from a good source. I suspect he is an honest man who will not give you and DLP a “piece of the action”!

Anyone can come up with a plan, but without capital, they have only that, a plan. Why should the government actually give capital to someone to invest with? Wouldn’t it be more efficient for the government to create an environment that is investor friendly? (Despite what some would have us believe, Dominica is not investor friendly, unless you’re China or Venezuela.)

The labour party has been in power going on 11 years and is a fact that in that 11 years they have yet to convince an investor to invest in a hotel of at least 50 rooms in Dominica it is so bad they have to go and beg for a hotel. That is because they cannot convince or entice an investor to do it. In woodfordhill they are practically giving the land away and putting there own financing because they cannot convince any body else to do it. In Roseau they are willing to sell for peanuts the only available expansion area for Roseau to Chinese to build a hotel pure desperation. They might be able to fool locals blinded by them that the climate is good for investing but they yet to convince significant investors to investing in Dominica. And i have eleven years to prove it, i challenging someone to prove me wrong. That shows clearly very clearly that they have no business sense AND WHATEVER THEY CLAIM TO BE DOING NOT WORKING. On top of that our so called premier hotel laying of staff.

Can the prime minister tell the people of Dominica who is going to check in as customers in that hotel since Dominica does not have stayovers? will this be for the cruise passengers to have lunch?that project is intended for temple from where one has a clear view of the white elephant hanging over the sea at lance nwere part of hodges estate which is unused for many years and last time i was in Dominica the only occupant was a FOR SALE sign. Maybe this is intended to replace the hotel at melvilhall airport intended to house the air crews from the night flights now renamed late flight or is this another empty promise

It ‘s about time that the Northern part of the island receives more focus and attention. This hotel should be in the one hundred-one hundred and fifty room range. An improved motor way from Portsmouth to Marigot should be next on the agenda.

I am praying for him too,but his government just not getting anything right. To u now DNO,y all your propaganda? If Geest Industries is building a hotel of which i know and have heard of for some time now,y is it that Skerrit has to be featured and make the news? This has nothing to do with him,Geest has been investing here for a while and owned estates here. With news media like u the masses will remain in ignorance for a long time. Are u paid by some politition to do their dirty work?I know for some money talk bullshit walk or work, are u one of those? This is sad!

Mr Skerrit keeps feeding Dominicans with just empty lies and politics. He keeps taking us as fools and keeps running DA without any sense of vision.
Mr. Skerrit got stock in his lies and curruption and calling an election sometime after the test match at winsor park is definitely becoming more obvious. He knows he and the Pal rep of the Wesley constituency have failed the people and he knows he cannot lie to Weslians anymore, he feels fooling the people of Woodfordhill with the promise of a hotel is the way to go. But I have news for Mr. skerrit; in the last election it was the last plain that landed at Melville hall that rushed so many Woodfordhillians living abroad to vote caused him to still the Wesley constituency. I need him to know that he will not use use again to prolong his corruption.

Interesting !! How mang people were on that last plane that landed at Melville Hall on election day?
News flash: Gloria Marilyn Shillingford 809 votes; Ezekiel Bazil 734 votes. Difference = 75 votes. Was it an 18-seater or 45-seater LIAT? Did the crew vote as well? Are they all from Woodfordhill?

      Don’t worry. I’m just teasing!!
