Jayanie Nicole Sharplis is recipient of LIME National Assessment Award

Jayanie Nicole Sharplis receives her laptop from LIME’s GM Jeffrey Baptiste

Every year, telecommunications company LIME Dominica provides a special award of a laptop, printer and five years complimentary internet to the child of an employee who emerges as the top student among employee’s children who sat the National Assessment exams.

This year’s recipient is eleven year old Jayanie Nicole Sharplis of Leopoldville, Wallhouse. Jayanie, who is set on a career in law, attended the St. Martin Primary School and intends to begin her secondary school journey at the Convent High School.

Her mom, Clivette Sharplis who has been an employee of LIME for several years, said the company must be commended for this initiative.

The LIME scholarship has been in place for over twenty-five years. It entails provision of a laptop, printer and five years complimentary internet service. Further support is given in the fifth year to assist with O’ level exam fees. More than forty LIME employees’ children are receiving support to the tune of over thirty-thousand ($30,000) annually.

LIME’s General Manager, Jeffrey Baptiste extended congratulations to Jayanie and urged her to take advantage of opportunities to advance her education with the use of the equipment provided to her. He highlighted the company’s commitment to the development of colleagues and their families beyond their employment at LIME.

“I am very grateful for this gift which I am confident will help with my education” said a thankful Jayanie in the presence of the entire LIME colleague body.

It appears that Jayanie had her eyes set on the LIME scholarship more than four years ago. Her mother noted that when another child of a LIME employee received the award back then, Jayanie told her “When I get to grade six, it will be my turn” and wrote her speech in anticipation of reaching that goal in 2012.

Congratulations to Jayanie on her achievements. She did well.

This is a great initiative on the part of LIME however I think they should make these awards to less fortunate kids who have done well on the assessment. I mean her mom has a good job and perhaps should be able to afford this but there are some children who have done well and their parents have no job. They are the ones who are more in need and should be given assistance.

Don’t you get it – it is not a free for all – it is to give back to their staff.
