LIAT workers await fate

Up to four LIAT workers on the island and many more in the region will have to wait longer than expected to know their fate with the company as turbulent times lie ahead for them.

As part of cost-cutting measures LIAT has announced plans to close its city offices in some Caribbean islands including Dominica.

Secretary Treasurer of the union representing LIAT workers on the island, Kertiste Augustus, said it is still not clear when the closure could commence since LIAT have not yet advised the unions representing workers.

“It is strange that this is hitting the airwaves and LIAT unions have not been informed. We know from discussions that there are plans to close the offices in the region but discussion are still continuing,” he pointed out.

We Vincentian are so tired with Liat changing, we are shareholders..! Believed us, we can’t take it anymore; we are not getting what we are paying for. Our international airport will complete early next year, and I already hearing a group of Vincentian is looking to have an airline company. Can’t wait to bury Liat… take a look at this animation video

You should still be able to purchase tickets online. But in accordance to what you are saying, i do not believe the office closures should affect LIAT’s aircrafts from landing or else this would not be a cost cutting measure. They would loose more if flights are to cease from coming into Dominica or any other island where they will be closing offices.

They are closing city offices. You will still be able to buy your ticket online, from your travel agent and from the liat booth at the airport.

Read and understand. Closing of “city” offices has nothing to do with you on a pre- purchased ticket! It simply means that future transactions to travel via LIAT will have to be done at the counter in the airport!!! So come from SXM to DA and spend the Euro.

shame on LIAT, after being bailed out of the red so many times, yet, what should one expect, even though more money is pumped into the Airline, the same people who badly managed it are still the same ones running it. This is going down the same road all over.
Jobs for some boys I say.

I hope this well open everyone eyes, who loves to spray ignorant across Dominica, that we need the government to start looking for lands to build an international airport…
