Telecommunication giant LIME is to invest US$1-billion in the Caribbean and parts of Latin America with Dominica getting a US$6-million slice of the pie.

That announcement was made by CEO of Lime Caribbean, Martin Roos, at a press conference held at the LIME’s Old Street office on Wednesday.

He said LIME isn’t going anywhere and the company is there for the long run.

“I just wanted to start by dispelling a rumor I know that is always out there on many people’s lips. We have been here a long time and LIME is not going anywhere, we are here to stay,” he said. “We will invest US$ 1-billion in upgrading our networks over a three year period and that will be done in the 14 Caribbean countries that LIME currently serves as well as Panama.”

He said the company will invest US$6-million Dominica market which will go towards the company’s 4G launch.

He explained that during the last couple of years LIME, former Cable and Wireless, has sold off the companies it owned on “the other side of the Atlantic” and presently there are none remaining.

He said the proceeds from the sale of the companies will go towards the Caribbean investment.

Roos also mentioned that LIME intends lay out a video or television product, “in every single market that we operate in.

“You shall be able to expect that within a reasonable future we may bring a TV product also to this beautiful island,” he stated, later adding it will come on stream “early next year.”

He further said that the business in the Caribbean is “turning around” and this gave the company a vote of confidence from stakeholders for the Caribbean investment.

Meantime General Manager of LIME Dominica, Jeffery Baptiste who also addressed the conference, said that the company will continue to strive for the top spot in the telecommunication market.

“We continue to say that our core market is that of a telecommunications provider and we haven’t gone to sleep. We have consistently invested in building our network infrastructure in Dominica,” he said.

He noted while the company has done “exceedingly well with respect to plugging in our investment to the development pillars of our country, we still feel that there is potent opportunity to do more.”

LIME has continue to reap off the Dominican economy, the local culture and has not contributed in any meaningful way, in country – people development. I think the time is right for a boycott of all LIME services. Just asking, why haven’t LIME develop the Botanical Gardens to house cultural events? SHAME ON THEM!

Maybe they need to invest some of that money in cleaning up those old dirty payphones they have everywhere that are not working.

I’m all for LIME offering as many services as they wish, so long as there’s open competition for all telecommunications services, and so long as they do not govern how we use the bandwidth we pay for, such as by blocking services such as Skype, Viber, and WhatsApp.

I don’t know what Lime patting themselves on the back for. You guys just jacked up the price of the 7 day All Talk plan with no reasoning behind it from $15.00 to $17.50 per week.

Dominica’s economy is severely depressed and that is the best strategy you guys could come with? By raising prices??

    Off to Digicel I go.

LIME may be a Telecommunications giant in Dominica, because they’ve been around a long time, and for a good time they were the only company operating.
But in the global scheme of things, the are VERY small fish.

Yes, they have exploited us to support their operations elsewhere, and it’s amazing to me that Dominicans support them because they either don’t know or forget that they are a bunch of ruthless exploiters.

Honestly, I wish they would be driven out of Dominica and their name removed from our vocabularies. If not for the fact that I listen to radio and tv, they would already have been removed from mine.

Stupes. All those workers u all have sent home in the past call them back. Six million eh. And u all intend on making triple that on Dominicans. Wehhh

we in the caribean still have an ample supply of blood for them to suck. the investment for the upgrade in infrastructure is good but will we enjoy low prices? anyway though our mass population in the region is relatively small, it seems that this market is a very lucrative one.

This comes at a price to customers. Stay tuned for increased costs. Customers pay for all this.
On occasion, Lime should also offer promotions at a reduced cost.

I hope that lime realizes that 1 billion is 1000 million. We are only getting 6 of that… Is that some kind of insult… And these guys have the guts to even talk about that…. That’s like giving someone six dollars from 1000…after lime has taken so much from Dominica and exploited the monopoly they had.

These companies are not putting any ease on consumers with their plans and their upgrade when we make calls and is a other phone company in Dominica is like we are calling internationally once is a local number it should be consider as local calls to expensive.
