Local technicians tackle global warning

Local air conditioning and refrigerator technicians are at the centre of the fight against global warming.

The Environmental Coordinating Units (ECU) launched a new program today with the intentions to phase out Hydroflurocarbons emitted from air conditioning unit and other household appliances such as refrigerators.

What the ECU wants to do is to ensure that Dominicans have new or recycled refrigerators and air conditioners that are friendly to the environment.

Bradley Guy of the ECU told DNO about some of the details of the project. “There is capacity building where we would train technicians in the new systems and that are available on the market and how to actually service and retrofit those equipments,” he said.

Guy added that The Dominica Association for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (DARAC) have recently been establish and is at the forefront in training of technicians, servicing of equipment and are in contact with importers and users. Dominica State College is also an ally in the project.

The ten year program is part of a project in the international community.

Very good move, I just wish that the government would be a more enthusiastic team player when it comes to the environment. Ask the average government minister what does he/she know about global warming, and you will be surprised how limited their knowledge is on the subject. We need to do better.

The same ECU used to have to have an educational program on the radio and I gained so much knowledge from that, the persons used to do a very good job. They need to bring back the program or have the station replay it.

People. This global warming phenomenon is nothing but a transfer of wealth from one set of people to another. It is a scam, plain and simple! The result of this is a huge disruption in the market stability around the world! Those idiots in Dominica, who are just regurgitating the crap that was fed to them by leftists from Europe and the U.S. need to shut their ignorant mouths! They are asking people to trash their perfectly fine appliances, in order to stop Global warming!?! Give me a freaking break!! People, have you all forgotten that the earth has gone through periods of heating up and cooling down? Have you all forgotten the Ice Age? Besides, do you nitwits think that requiring Dominicans to trash their appliances will have ANY effect on world temperatures? Lord help us!!!!!

Interesting and positive article. (DNO, should it be warming instead of warning?)

Not a bad idea but the Government in collabaration with the private sector and other Business establishments should emback on a buy back programme where people with appliances which still emmits Hydroflurocarbons can engage in the programme and up date their appliances to todays specifications give those persons a generous discount to encourage them to part with their old and outdated appliances. Lets be serious about the environmentals issues as we seems to indicate. We talk the talk lets walk the walk and put our money where our mouth is, its a win- win situation for all in “my opinion.”
