The fight against the Air Passenger Duty (APD) continues with Caribbean countries now getting support from international carriers and the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
According to the WTTC, over the next 12 months the British government could collect £2.8 billion in extra tax from air travellers, far more than any country in the world. In contrast, if the APD is removed, 91, 000 British jobs could be created and £4.2 billion added to the economy within the same time frame.
I want to see the caribbean govts remove all the taxes on air fares, it is ridiculous, when one purchase a ticket to Antigua (35 mins away from Dca) at a cost of $850 out of which $510 = Taxes!!!
If you think i lie check it out go to http://www.flyliat.com
sorry http://www.liat.com
Indeed, it is only 100 miles by air and a taxi would be cheaper (if that were possible) but, of course LIAT enjoy a monopoly
Wow, for such an important news issue, it is very strange that no one has made a positive comment about it.
From my point of view, the more pressure the British Government gets in relation to such a critical aspect as it relates to the cost of travel and at the same time, the creation of jobs, I strongly believe that they should go back to the drawing board and re-assess their concerns.
Is it all about making billions, or is it about creating jobs and keeping families/persons employed? On the other hand, why is it that it’s Britain pushing for such increase in travelling fares?
that apd tax is a big farce, an untruth rooted in greed .. we dont even hear the phrase ‘GLOBAL WARMING ‘ now its ‘CLIMATE CHANGE’ like the climate mustn’t change or else we are a gonna on this earth.. sounds more to me like an oxymoron -Climate Change.
Recently the europeans accused Hong Kong of withdrawing purchasing 10 A380 aircrafts from them i think thats like 10billion dollars subject to be corrected – all because chinese passengers will be affected by these huge cost in travel to and from europe.. U C the chinese has balls they dont play. what about us in the caribbean we only pay lipservice and talk and talk and lobby and lobby all that going nowhere.. we can do more but as with all things we are too chicken and poor and mentally indolent to do anything about it.
