Mini trade show scheduled for Mero

Beach in Mero

A mini trade show scheduled to be held at Mero later this month is expected to showcase the heritage, products and services of the members of the Dominica Community Tourism Associations around the island.

The May 26 event is being held as part of Tourism Awareness Month.

According to the organisers, the trade show will provide an opportunity to get to know more about the concept of Community Tourism in Dominica and to identify opportunities and ways for networking, partnership and even selling products and services.

The event is being organized by the Dominica Community Tourism Association Inc. (DCTAI), which is an umbrella organization of all community tourism organizations on the island.

It says each sponsor of the trade show will receive maximum benefit through promotion of the company’s products and services.

A prize will be given to the best arranged booth.

The DCTAI says it hopes the activity will become an annual affair.

Everyone seems to forget the days of Castaways beach hotel. 1962. First hotel in Dominica Yes we had some great days. Sun, fun, tranquility ( aside from the footballers). Mero a village that should be aware of growing to fast ,do not rely on cruise ship tourism as this is just for a moment , for a day. The local trade and long term tourists spend more than the cruise ship people and therefore deserve more attention. You PAY attention they are there for the long haul.
Mero village shoud be like Isle De Saints. Cafe’s , good food, yachting facilities, low key,yet up market. Safe, secure, friendly, and foremost the only beach village that should control its own destiny . They had a head start with Castaways as a partner for many years. They saw the problems , they know the problems. It is time to take on the challenge. Castaways put Dominica on the map, Mero is on the map and being in the forefront NOW ensure you work together for the future of this unique village Go for 100%,long term Tourism. Cruise ship is just a stop gap. Mero can excel far beyond this .
Bakes, chicken, whiskey in hand, wander down the village to friendly faces , warm welcomes and a safe environment . Of course you will come back. But not when your beachs are full of people that don’t spent ( cruise ships) …… Been there done that.
    ………….,Yes. Fifty years of tourism.

    All the best

Dominica’s government should understand that Mero has been and should remain a family community. We all grew up in this lovely child friendly community, not forgetting that most of us has the same last name. We all grew up enjoying Sunday sea bath, starting early in the morning until lunchtime. We were blessed to enjoy lots of seasonal fruits and enjoyed the traditional Christmas, new years, may day festivity. Today, this has all been changed because of the large crowds who assemble in the village day after day. When I return on vacation, which I often do, I can hardly re-live my childhood days. I am bombarded with noise and cannot sit by the road side to enjoy the moonlight without having to notice people walking up and down. We would be happy to keep our tradition alive. Castaways hotel area would be a better venue and this could help increase hotel space in Dominica by keeping the hotel open.
