New call center opens; to provide more than 150 jobs

WIKIBULI Communications Inc. has started operating here, an expanding job opportunity for Dominicans, government has said.

Government has provided concessions to the multilingual call center, which provides services to North America.  The company, which has already invested $1.2-million into its Dominica operation, has promised more than 150 jobs for locals.

“This in fact has impacted significantly the young people in terms of employment in the country,” said Kelver Darroux, Junior Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister responsible for Information Communication Technology (ICT).

He has made an appeal for Dominicans to be disciplined at the workplace to maintain their posts.

WIKIBULI Communications Inc Dominica Business Centre is located in Roseau on the second floor of Charles Pharmacy. The company says it expects to expand within the next few months.

Another call center, Clear Harbour, has been operating on island for years now. Several hundred Dominicans are employed at that institution.

1979 and Reggie Dominique, thank you. My comments are not without experience. It is said experience is a good teacher. This includes observation and know how.
Call centres do sap people’s minds. It also depends on the type of product including managers/supervisors. I am one who does not approve of call centres, certain ones that is. I could write a book about them.
    God bless you!

I work there, did my training and now work for Pizza hut. Ya they were late because stuff was slow but now they start with the people and move forward. there are 18 people working there and 12 more starting this week after we test.
I just want to say thank you for the chance to work and thank you for not giving up on Dominica.

I have been doing some things for Wikibuli. If Dominicans want to point fingers we should point them at ourselves. The company waited 8 months for a location til they had to get one outside the aid bank. The concessions didn’t come in for months so they couldn’t ship the materials in. Then the shipment goes to the wrong place. There are people working and more training now and we should be happy they stuck it out.

@charles. They lied to people. They promised people that they would be employed if not june then july I was at the first meeting where they said that they have clients waiting. Waiting to employ people. And to this present date they only have one client. I know what I am talking about.

Y dem Businesses are being centralize in Roseau? y Can`t the Gov seek to open more business opportunities in the North which will help the cost of spending for travels, renting and much more and then in turn will see more money in there pockets? dats another way of element which will help increase the standard of living. it in spite of private entities expanding there business in the North, the GOV needs to play a greater role in ensuring something of this nature be look at. Roseau is not
    Dominica Roseau is in Dominica.

This is all well and good and will provide employment. However, will those who are unilingual denied employment in this establishment?
I do believe that the government, his officials who are responsible for implementing this new project should respond to this comment.

80% of the jobs are English only. I work at Wikibuli and will say there are three clients currently hiring and 18 people working. People will be hired 12 at a time until the positions are filled. People have to stop hating and realize that sometimes thing take longer then expected.

Mad guys or guys with malicious intentions? Why should you even mention such negativity. Can’t you understand that all this hate-talk, being promoted via media, particularly on the airwaves (by so called intelligent people) is adding fuel to the fire and helping to increase the crime rate? Freedom of speech should not be used as a tool for the destruction of the minds of our young people. We need to act more responsibly and think of the future of our country.

The Government should make efforts to create employment for us that will guarantee us longterm employment. Not to depend on businesses that can just pack up and leave when they feel like.

Admin, the photo which you have as insert is certainly not wiki buli d/ca. I did apply to wiki buli d/ca and was promised a top post on the 15 of June, which dragged and dragged with various excuses. When they did finally scrape to employ, I understood that the promise that they made to hundreds of young people here on the island was like a hoax. Instead they only had one client which is pizza hut usa. and they only employed 12 people to work odd hours. And probably five other local staff to run the office. You should resarch again. And truely find out how many d/cans are presently empolyed with the company. Many young people left their jobs for one of wiki buli better promises, and they are now stranded. Please. Go to the wiki buli office, you know the location, and give the real honest story.

ADMIN: the photo is just a graphic…..we will certainly look into this matter.

        @ humm

Why should you concern yourself about the photo? You should not question or comment about it. You should be aware this is what a call centre looks like. It may be that you are not familiar with this.

yep i did an interview on the 15th of June also and it has been a run a round also, i checking that this photo is not wikibuli D/CA…but honestly i emailed them and they did say that they were experiencing some difficulties at the moment and hope to have business started soon

      • henri
        August 9, 2011

I would really like to know what difficulties that they are experiencing. Because when they interviewed a group of us, like 70 people, we were told that they have clients waiting. CLIENTS WAITING !!. Their first excuse was not given the license from the govt. This was during may. They got it during May’s month end. It is now August. Wiki Buli needs to be invistigated !!

      • Anonymous
        August 9, 2011

what type of difficulty? they came to d/ca promising jobs without any clients yet contacted. I’d like to hear their real story, between june 15 and now, how many clients do they have to offer jobs to those whom they promised?

    • Truth and Love
      August 9, 2011

      @ Anonymous

As some people are aware of, it depends who you know which is unfair. Some of them beat about the bush with promises of calling and offer of employment. They do not have a mind of their own and do not possess business ethics nor practice same.
Some of those who hold such positions are in dire need of business training and also appropriate education.
It is nothing new to know, hear and read about that there are times the wrong people procure the managerial positions and the jobs, also through preferential treatment. They are also no more educated than those whom they employ.
It is nothing new to know, hear and read about as some of them show-off and adopt a greater-than-thou attitude, often times projecting same in their mannerisms.
Sometimes basic common sense and knowledge are sufficient for obtaining such positions and efficiently fulfilling same. God has endowed this to each and every one of us with no exception.
