North Eastern Multi-Purpose Cooperative to take over Marigot Fisheries Complex

The North Eastern Multi-Purpose Cooperative said plans are underway to take over the Marigot Fisheries Complex.

President of the Cooperative Richard Charles said the organization has put together a business and operational plan with the hopes of taking over the management of the Fisheries Complex. He said Cabinet could soon approve the agreement.

“We have presented the business and operational plan to them minister of fisheries and we have met with him on two occasions where he indicated that we will be getting the use of the complex and he will be preparing an agreement,” he said.

Charles said the board of the Cooperative has agreed to launch several activities to officially celebrate what could be the beginning of a well-organized plan for the community.

“This Friday we will have a mass and the blessing of the boats. In the evening we will have a fish night. We are hoping that this will be the beginning of an activity that we will put on every month end,” he said.

Isn’t there a custom office which can be utilize and have ferries coming into Marigot.

What about duty fee shops and a real market area.

That’s wonderful news now it is up to the community to make sure they can maintain the complex we could make it a place of the art we just have to make the right decisions we dont want to have duplication of activities at the same time so as much as I am happy with the move I would encourage the Cooperative group to work to gether with the Marigot Credit Union and MDC Inc just to move the Villag forward, other wise it is good new for the people and the Village

Fisheries comples equals white elephants. A fisheries complex built 13 years ago is yet to be productive and we still proud to say that we built another fisheries complex in portsmouth. Expect the same results when you do things the same way

papa Met, I would not say that  The Fisheries Complex is not equal to a “White elephant”. Obviously you are not from Marigot because you casually said that. It it a real benefit and blessing to the people of Marigot and other surrounding Villages. However, we can do much more. I think that it is a place in the future; hopefully that will be underutilized more efficiently by the citizens of Marigot and the environs;hopefully sooner than later. We need to do more by encouraging ourselves to work together to invest in more modern equipment that can actually be out on the water for days if need be bringing in fish (such as Trawlers) There is a huge market for the fish that is brought in to the Marigot Fisheries complex. Even with the present Quantities of fish Marigot fisher men bring in Their isn’t a Market for it; sometimes there is no sale for what they have cough so they have to leave it in the freezers for long periods of time. I went to buy DOWAD (Dolphin) Known in the USA as “Mahee Mahee” here in Columbus Ohio and I could not afford it. I thought i was going to pay about $10.00 lb it was about $20.00lb. So instead of our people arguing who should be PM and all that Bull their is stuff in place to focus seriously on all we have to do is work together and someplace like the fisheries complex can be of a huge benefit not just for fishermen but many other off shoots can come from that . So The Marigot Fisheries is not a “White Elephant”
