Organizers promise ‘more impressive’ bridal fair

Wedding & EventsOrganizers of the second annual National Bridal Fair, slated for August 11 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, are promising a “much more impressive show” this year.

Anthony Paul, of Dreamy Weddings, said at the fair’s media launch on Tuesday, that its main objective is to join customers and create a network while showcasing the products required for planning a wedding.

The Bridal Fair, aimed at promoting Dominica as a unique destination wedding location, is an initiative of Nature Island Weddings and Caribbean Exquisites. The first bridal fair in 2012 was planned and organized by these two companies with the assistance of Dreamy weddings. The Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), has come on board in 2013 as an organizer and one of the headline sponsors for the 2nd Annual Bridal Fair.
The headline sponsors for this year’s event are the DDA, Nature Island Weddings, Caribbean Exquisites, Dreamy Weddings and Bright Light Marketing.

More than 40 businesses including wedding and events planners, caterers, photographers, gift stores, hair stylists, taxi companies and musical bands are expected to collaborate to make wedding and events planning in the Nature Island of Dominica easier for both nationals and non-national.

Director of Discover Dominica Authority, Collin Piper, noted that the fair should be utilized as an opportunity to form alliances and strategic partnerships.

“The romance sector is huge and we want to participate or compete in the sub sectors of destination weddings,” he stated at the media launch. “Service providers will have to compete amongst themselves locally and compete against other service providers in the region so they must ensure that they have top quality services at all times. The destination is also going to have to compete against others in the region which are more advanced than we are.”

Claudia Bellot, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, added that the ministry is supportive of the efforts being made to grow the wedding and romance sector in Dominica.

She said that promoting Dominica as an ideal destination wedding location will assist in achieving the goal of Discover Dominica Authority to increase the number of stay-over visitors to the island to 90,000 by 2015.

Bellot pointed out however, that while Dominica is being promoted as the ideal location for weddings, citizens must become more conscious of the environment and the level of crime in the island.

What I saw was good but next time know who to choose my shany Nelson there was not fitting the profile. This event was for marriage not the obvious like destruction

Very happy this is happening. It will be interesting to see the Island in this capacity. As I live in London. So I am very exciting about being able to attend. My only observations are this: There should be a site dedicated to this or it should be on the Nature Island Wedding Site as a front runner and it appears as though it is not there at all. We need to do more about promoting our country and its events.

We organizing second annual National Bridal Fair, so why is it that in Dominica we have a high rate of DIVORCE after the first year of marriage. It looks like everything is for fair and show, but in the real world Dominicans just going about divorcing!!!!

Well one of the modellers that was modeling a gown is one of the reasons for that. People have too much guts, after you know you don’t deserve to wear that pure dress you are taking on that role. This Shane is example of marriage destruction

I totally agree! Last year’s event was great and I cant wait for this year. I was very impressed with the lady from Salisbury who made the wedding cakes. The fashion show was off the hizzy! I have a bit of an issue though with the statement which says that the show is an initiative of the DDA. I am a very close friend of Anthony Paul( he actually did my cousin’s wedding decorations and it was great) and to my knowledge the event was planned by him and his colleagues at Nature Island Weddings. I do not recall DDA being a part of the event last year. DNO please clarify this information. But besides that..I am in full support of the event….and hope to see more vendoes. The stadium should make a better venue..Great Job guys and keep it up!
