PWC expected to turn around in 2016

Pinard is expecting dramatic change at the PWC

The Hon Minister for Public Works, Ian Pinard is looking forward to a dramatic change in the Public Works Corporation in the new year.

He was speaking to GIS News recently.

“The Public Works Corporation, on December 1st, hired a new General Manager in McDowell Paul and we are very optimistic,” he said. “We think that the corporation can be turned around. The board and general manager are putting a sustainable plan together which involves restructuring.”

He mentioned staff reduction.

“This is what we have to do to make the corporation sustainable and I think the new manager is capable of doing so,” he noted. “In 2016, we will see a turnaround where the corporation will be sustainable and you will not be hearing about Public Works Corporation in the news again- that salaries haven’t been paid. That’s what we‘re working on: that they will be able to sustain themselves on their income without going to Government for bailouts.”

Minister Pinard believes that the challenges of the organisation have been accurately identified.

“The Public Works Corporation has a huge expense bill and huge debt. If there is no sustainable plan then this is just going to continue. It’s like having a hole in your pocket and you keep putting money into it. We feel that we have to stitch that hole,” he said.

More lies and mamaguy. Mr Pinard can you turn around a dead body unless you are doing autopsy? You all are not God Alimighty to raise the dead….. You guys should be held accountable for the complete destruction of Dominica and her human and natural resources.
It’s vexing to read about PWC will turn around. You betterr take your foolishness and take it some where else.
To many lies and nonsense talk in Dominica.
One question : ” Is Dominica a doomed nation due to poor leadership?
Or Is Dominica the most corrupt nation on earth hence rampant poverty and a low expectation from rogue leaders?

I wonder if that is a tactical move to pacify Thomas Letang’s union and ward off any action threatened by him? If people still don’t get paid their overdue wages and salaries we will know this is so and simply another chapter in Roosevelt Skerrit’s divide-&-rule strategy.

How will this dramatic change be accomplished? Will they receive government contracts or will DLP insiders and cronies continue to line their pockets as usual?

For years you all played cement mix with the workers. They Strike, cry, protest because of no payment or late payment. Your government gave all unqualified road engineers, Tom, Dick and Harriett contractual jobs over their heads and still you have the audacity to talk of payment and better things to come.. Are you guys serious.?

I hope the Minister’s optimism is not misplaced, both for the sake of the Corporation itself and the Dominican public. Meanwhile I would like the Minister to clarify:

    – Will the PWC remain at it s present location and if not where will it be relocated to?
    – Was – or was the site not sold to Chinese interests and if so was the price obtained as per by the Govt.’s own valuation office?
    – If it was sold to outside interests are PWC (i.e Govt.) required to pay rent to the new owners?

Being optimistic is one thing but being realistic is better. Fairytales are thoughts that never come true so there’ll be no overnight miracle happening at PWC. He knows that public works is finished but he’s here trying to give the employees and the public an empty hope to hold on to that PWC will get better and its employees will get well paid in a timely manner. Ha ha, we believe you. PWC is a proper illustration of Dominica’s mess. Much like everything else in on the island, it is not self-sustaining and requires permanent life support to make it seem like it’s standing on its own. I guess Karma is playing a role here for all those employees this Labor administration sent home back in 2000 claiming that “they used to clock in then go Roseau and lime.” But we all know the real reason why they got rid of them was because the majority of them were from Salisbury and they supported the other side. Try doubling the passport sales. Maybe then you can bring PWC out of debt
