Displays of creative hand-made artwork as well as exhibits of various tourist hubs around the island formed part of a career day in tourism held at the government headquarters on Friday.
The event was held to show that there are different ways of earning a living through tourism.
Visitors browsed through a wide range of locally made products such as quilts, wooden towel holders, madras cloth, colorful cloth dolls, local medicinal herbs among others.
Many who attended the event expressed satisfaction with the displays.
Rudolf George of the Wotten Waven Village Council said tourism can indeed be profitable and to drive his point home he noted that the community will be observing the 12th annual Sulfur Splash from November 25 to December 8.
Some of the activities at the Sulphur Splash will include sports, lectures on general health, law and order, unemployment and crime. He said it will also be used to attract more tourists and visitors to the area.
Participants in the career day event included the Mero Enhancement committee, Marigot development committee, Wotten Waven and Harmony Gardens of Bellevue Chopin.
It was organized by the Ministry of Tourism , Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association, Discover Dominica Authority and Dominica State College.
it is very good to know that Wotton waven, had all these things organised and i live so close to the resource centre , and i am not aware of that!!!oh it was organised for members of the committee alone,Rudolph and company.i find these exhibits are of a medicore standard, we can do better than that.they only involve one set of people in their activities
tourism officers are trying very hard to work with the public but to be honest i do not know why its not working i have visited a few islands in the region and i dont understand why it is just not working in da the hotels housekeeping are friendly. as u walk u are greeted with a friendly good day even the answering of the telephones.I donot know if it is the persons that conduct the seminars but something is just not right
I visited the tables and I picked up some tourism materials which I found them quite interested. I will read the Tourism Master Plan in my spare time.
Thanks again! WoW!
the tourism minister needs to get out there and market the country, i am not interested in this poorly illustrated pictures. can this boost our economy, not never.
Keep it up Ministry of Tourism & Legal Affairs for such great insight/initiative, in promoting avenues for entrepreneurship in the tourism industry. This should be done annually to involve all schools around the island.
