Minister for Trade Collin McIntyre has said a plan to create a free trade area between the European Union (EU) and African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group, may just have to be reviewed.
The Economic Partnership Agreements (EPA) must correspond with global changes, McIntyre has said.
He believes smaller countries like Dominica must be able to hold their own and become more competitive.
“We cannot sit here in the region or in Dominica for example and decide, because something is produced in Dominica, it has a way on the market. We have to be competitive in terms of efficiency and the standard of what you want to sell,” McIntyre stated.
He added, “Things are not as settled we expect them to be, and because the changes are so rapid, we have to be mindful of the fact that some
of the components under the EPA may have to be reviewed.”
The EPA is to eliminate tariffs and preferences on goods and services traded within the EU and ACP member group.
What plans are in place or will be put in place to make Dominica’s products more competitive on the local and regional market?
