Truckers negotiate payment terms

dump truckThe Dominica Tipper Truckers Association is expected to be better positioned to receive payments at a much quicker pace thanks to a new plan of action that is being developed to address the issue once and for all.

Truckers working on phase two of the Melville Hall Airport Road Project have complained that they have not been paid for work done since January.

Vice President of the association, Malcom Reid, told DNO in an exclusive interview on Tuesday, that the truckers met on that same day with the Minister for Public Works Rayburn Blackmoore, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Public Works Lucien Blackmoore and a representative from Gadarkhan Co. Ltd. to address the issue.

According to Reid, under the present arrangements documents for payment submitted by the truckers must go first to France. He further explained that during the process, the documents take a long time in Martinique and because of that there is always a delay in payment.

He said a “new system” where money will now be placed in Dominica for payment when this is required, is being negotiated. “So that I am sure will extradite the process,” he stated.

Reid also pointed out that the delay in payments was partly due to what he described as the project manager’s “personal vendetta” towards the truckers.

He said a meeting will be held to discuss the manager’s attitude “and to review certain core procedures for future benefit.”

“This last set of stuff, we are not going to go through this,” he said. “we are going to revisit our contract … with this new arrangement we are not going to raise our rates or anything … we have to establish a procedure where there is mutual respect.”

All my life i thought people negotiate payment and payment method before they work and not after. But i am extremely happy to hear the truckers are making some headway on the current situation. Hope it won’t take six months to complete the negotiations.

Mr Reid ….”so that I am sure will expedite the process” …that is what you should have said..not “extradite the process”…What Mr.Prevost wanted to do to Mr Grant was “extradite” him back to DA to answer those most important questions that the nation is awaiting answers on….that is how this word should be used…Folks come on..Use words in the right context.

within a few months the complain with emerge again.

folks don’t respect Dominicans because of the boyish attitude of this regime.

dominicans are not known to me smart and high on matters, they pretty much a ease going take what you get mindset….that’s why they considered the Poorest in the Eastern Caribbean.

Hmmmmmmmmm! This revelation that under the present arrangement the forms go first to France in itself is a BOMBSHELL!!! This confirms that the French government does not trust the Dominican government or Galacan to manage the monies to be used on this project. It also shows up serious flaws in the negotiating process as well as a total disregard of the drivers’ plight as they MUST have known that this arrangement would have affected the drivers in this way from the start. Yet they accepted this arrangement and for all this time, did not make it clear to the drivers that this was the case in order that they would understand the length of time that they would have had to wait in order to get paid. They have done so now because their backs are up against the wall!!!

Why is it that the Minister has said nothing publicly to resolve this? Could it be that he is embarrassed by this failure or is hiding something? Were is this money that will be ‘placed in Dominica’ coming from??? Why is it that smoothing out this PR disaster is being left to Mr. Reid rather than the government authorities? Laughable!!!

The problems will not end here!! By the way, if this combination of two brothers, one as minister and the other his Permanent Secretary, is not a blatant CONFLICT OF INTEREST, what is????????? Truckers, pull together and strengthen your resolve……..you are going to need it soon!!!!!!!

Don’t be surprised that the REAL reason for the recently announced trip to France is to settle this matter, and not for the geothermal project. Looks like the Government has been SUMMONED to France to explain their management discrepancies.

Hahahaha, I’m sure much happier than you are. I don’t have to go to financial centre with a begging bowl. Dominica is indeed on a black list and proof of it is right here.

This is B…t! Truckers, you all have a ring through your nose? You are contracted by Gaddarkhan, not the Govt. Is Gaddarkhan that has to pay you, if necessary from his own pocket. These people are dictating to you all too much. Go and check with the unions in Guadeloupe. Well, good luck to you.

Lol – so the project manager is the reason why grown men are working and using up their personal resources to support the project. So the project manager don’t like the other service providers that are not providing trucking services? Ebeh weh

“Are you a laughter,Ramases”.When Naferirie said that to a powerful man like Ramases, I found that statement to be humiliating. These days I wonder if that statement does not pertain to the Truckers .Everytime they open their mouths for their money, the Government fills them not with money but promises.
