Young entrepreneurs keep the juices flowing

Addison (left) and Annelia Aaron

Addison Aaron Jr and his sister Annelia are set on taking their parents juicing business to higher heights.

The pair, both in their early 20’s, have chosen to stay and develop the family business that in over ten years has carved out a big slice of the Ross University market for itself, as the sole juice-only establishment in the Picard Food Court.

Addison accounts for their industry as a trait expunged from the attitude of their parents, who started with a much smaller operation, when the university was a much smaller place and have built a solid, viable business from that.

“I have always looked up to my parents as very hard workers and it was motivational to us, because even though, in Dominica, things are a little rough, after school we decided to stay here and help and by our doing that, the business actually has grown to a bigger level and we’ve had the opportunity to open other businesses as well. So it made all of us a little more hardworking,” he remarked.

The business boasts having served its seasonal juices to dignitaries including the prime minister and is very well supported by the university’s students as well as the local community, having established its reputation and consistently maintained its high quality juices.

The company now occupies two of the vending stalls at the food court and there are plans to expand both the operation and the menu but he cites the current duty restriction as, perhaps, the most significant limiting factor.

He stated, “We were planning to enhance the business by putting in a bigger structure and where we could do smoothies and stuff like that but right now we just have a big issue. The duties in the country currently are really killing us, as we try to bring in bigger, better equipment and when we have to replace machines that may go bad, and that’s one thing that we’d really like to see change.”

The Aarons continue to provide for patrons seven days a week, even on public holidays, and still hope one day to grow their operation to massive, with their quality juices which one customer says are “Of God”.

Well done guys. That is the spirit. Producing and selling something with raw materials grown in abundance in Dominica.
As far as the import duties in Dominica are concerned, the government needs to rethink this as a matter of absolute urgency. It is the same with foreign investors and the ‘Alien land holding License’. The country needs the foreign investment but at the same time stalls it in charging hidden taxes. A prime example that the government just is not thinking ahead. They are only after the quick ‘buck’.

with all the negative light on our youth of late, this is one story that we must keep on the front page for a while yet (DNO make this one “Feature Story” for the rest of the summer). Congratulations to these young dominicans for beating the odds and making positive strides even in the face of adversity and in these most trying times. I hope that their story of their success serves as a beacon of hope for numerous other young dominicans and that theirs be an example of what the youth can achieve with initiative and a little positive thinking.

I also hope that government sees this story and take it as a cue to start paying closer attention to our young entrepreneurs and making resources and fiscal incentives available to them so that they in turn can progress and in so doing play their just role in taking dominica to the next level.

Congratulations guys and keep on striving for better.

It is so great to see that your prosperity is being highlighted on DNO… It is not very often you see young people moving up to higher heights and their efforts are being recognized. Honestly, I think that these two young people are deserving of an award. It is one thing to have a business but it is another to keep up the quality. I can openly boast of TOP QUALITY local juice, discipline to the business world (esp in tardiness/ attendance) and great customer service.
Fantastic work you two… I am so proud of you and your achievements..

It is so amazing how the Aaron’s are running their daily affairs. What was initially INCUBATED by their parents, is not in their hands, and looking bigger and better by the hour.
I want to take this opportunity to offer a blessing on both Addisson Junior and his sister, for stedfastly providing such a needed service to the students and public atlarge. You guys are doing a wonderful job, and are role models to many who may choose to trod that same path. God bless you both!!!

This is what I am talking about, using our resources to make a living. We have so many fruits and vegetables that are going to waste, when are we going to start manufacturing for ourselves rather than depending on hand outs or tourism?

This is commendable and impressive. I wish them the best. I always lament people whose parents start a business yet would leave it and go work for someone else, or allow an outsider to take over. This is very, very impressive!
