CARICOM condemns violence in the Middle East; supports two-state solution to end the conflict

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has condemned the ongoing violence in the Middle East saying it supports the two-state solution to end the world’s longest ongoing conflict. On Saturday, Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, launched an unprecedented attack on Israel when its fighters entered communities near the Gaza Strip, killing hundreds of people, and taking dozens of hostages.

The group also fired hundreds of rockets toward Israel, targeting mostly civilian areas.

In response, Israel has declared war on Hamas and announced a “siege” of Gaza – cutting its supplies of electricity, fuel, food, goods and water. It has also been heavily bombing Gaza in a way it has never done before.

Hundreds have died on both sides. The fighting is the latest in seven decades of war and conflict between Israelis and Palestinians since David Ben-Gurion proclaimed the modern State of Israel on May 14, 1948. The complex conflict has drawn in outside powers, such as the United States and Iran, and has destabilized the entire Middle East.

In its statement, CARICOM said it abhors the attacks in Israel and the counterattacks in the Palestinian territory of Gaza.

“Further, the savage nature of the attacks and counterattacks is the antithesis of civilised life and living,” the statement said.

“Innocent lives are being lost amidst the fervour and violence of the actual combatants.”

The community said it “joins the responsible members of the international community in calling for an immediate ceasefire and end of hostilities by all parties.”

“The recent round of hostilities reflects the pain and suffering of ancient quarrels. The ongoing harsh conditions under which the Palestinians live in veritable colonialism and Israel’s sense of insecurity will contribute to a cycle of violence until those realities are definitively addressed,” it stated.

“Accordingly, CARICOM continues to support the United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 and the ongoing efforts of the United Nations towards a two-state solution as the best way to achieve comprehensive peace, security and tranquility between Israel and Palestine.”

The two-state solution proposes a framework for solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by establishing two states for two peoples: Israel for the Jewish people and Palestine for the Palestinian people.

The framework was agreed upon in 1993 by the Israeli government and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as part of the Oslo Accord leading to the establishment of the Palestinian Authority (PA). However, from the start, some Israelis and Palestinians sought to disrupt the two-state solution. Groups like Hamas have rejected it and have called for the total destruction of Israel.

    Two state solution? Huh?

Who are the covert puppet-masters behind the scenes who instructed or influenced the CARICOM talkshop to issue this statement saying that it supports the two-state solution? All you must be absolutely mad in y’all heads.

There will ONLY be ONE STATE in the land region of the Palestine ie the State of Israel.

In essence CARICOM is on the fence. CARICOM – “All you stop fighting you can have your state and you can have your state.”

I wonder if the Chinese, openly with a show of force, start taking land and occupying ALL CARICOM nations making us Caribbean people second class citizens in our own states, if CARICOM will sing the same song of a two-state resolution? I for sure would want to fight for my land and country and not let no invaders even think about wanting to have themself. Anyway those sentiments from CARICOM mean absolutely nothing in the sceme of things. Those people dont even know where the Caribbean is. They will think we are in Africa.

I agree with you 100%. CARICOM is looking for acceptance and recognition from far away, not interested in attending to the chaos in St. Lucia and Dominica. CARICOM needs to be dismantled. I for sure will fight for Dominica if Xi makes any more inroads here. We must first get rid of the labor party so as to loosen the hold of the INVADERS. Men of courage are needed in Dominica to do what’s necessary to free this country.

CARICOM – the Great talk shop.
    Haiti – CARICOM talks
    Climate Change – CARICOM talks
Proliferation of Guns & Ammunition – CARICOM talks
High Crime Rate – CARICOM talks
High Food Import Bill – CARICOM talks

The problem with CARICOM and all these regional governments is there is a surplus of talk and a severe deficit of real action.
