Carnival was ‘very successful’ and peaceful – PM Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has hailed the 2020 Carnival celebrations as very successful and peaceful.

In a statement on Wednesday, the prime minister commended the organizers of the Real Mas 2020 Carnival as well as the band organizers, artistes and everyone who had a part to play in this year’s celebrations.

“From all indications, from all reports, it was a very successful carnival and I want to congratulate all those who participated in various competitions…,” he said. “I want to commend all the revellers, the patrons, for a very peaceful carnival.”

Skerrit continued, “From the reports I have received from the police, it appears that the carnival was very peaceful; there were a few minor incidents but nothing to really shout about.”

According to the prime minister, this can only happen because of the respect for each other and for law and order which exists in Dominica.

He said that if revellers do not cooperate, the police will have a challenge, “but I must say that we all cooperated and it was a very successful carnival.”

Skerrit believes that there was a lot more colour and more creativity this year.

“And the good thing about it is that all of this creativity, all of the designs, the construction of our costumes were done by local Dominicans,” he said.

He called for the harnessing of the various village carnivals and to make them part of the national calendar of events.

“There is no way you can stop Mahaut opening; there is no way you can stop the Portsmouth opening. There is no way you can stop St Joe opening. These are natural things; this is nature taking its course,” Skerrit noted. “What we need to do is to package it and help the local organizing committees to better organize it and to showcase it so that it can be part of our national calendar of activities.”

      Everything in Dominica is a success and is soooooo great.why the ** a person have to still risk their life on a prop plane to get to that place after 2 to 3 days of travel. GOD DAMN THem stupid people down there with their black trump. Sot

    Statically poverty increases crime, that’s a fact. Extreme hunger and slumdog poverty will result in decrease crime due to the fact that criminal’s are to hungry to weak to travel can’t afford to pay transportation to move around causing a major drop in there activity, reducing crime. As long as you can keep them hungry weak begging and malnourish, you are certain to make your statement that crime is dropping , don’t forget to mention is due to starvation.

    ‘The law and order which exists in Dominica’, the dictator said! This man makes me laugh, he tells one lie after another and still manages to keep a straight face, well apart from the odd smirk. When is he going to account for the missing CBI and PetroCaribe money I wonder? When? But we all celebrate carnival as if nothing happened! No doubt quite a few of his most loyal supporters got a big envelope with spending money!!! What a country!

    Peaceful yes, but successful? PM I don’t what you use to measure success and if success is measured a day after the event or at a later stage. So for example, we had many visitors in Dominica from countries where the deadly coronavirus is confirmed. So let’s wait a few weeks before we try to measure success tan. Also, we have several TB patients on island and some of them might have passed it on to others. So PM you too busy to measure success. Let’s at this time take the advise given to us by the Apostle in James 1:19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak.. “

      We doe mind all the noise during carnival time, it’s all done with one blanket permit, but PM please tell us, after carnival will the Noise Abatement Act be upheld by the police and the neighborhood torturers?
      We know your soldiers are monitoring DNO please give us a hint, will they be issued sitations, warnings, permits, tickets to stop torturing neighbors? It’s seriously sickening.
