On March 23, 2019, the Chinese Embassy in Dominica held a public event, “China-Dominica Friendship Day”, in celebration of the 15th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Commonwealth of Dominica.
H.E. Charles Savarin, President of Dominica and Mrs. Savarin, Mr. Eliud Williams, former President of Dominica, Mrs. Melissa Skerrit, wife of Prime Minister of Dominica, Mrs. Miriam Blanchard, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, as well as other people from Dominica and the Chinese community, totaling over 200, attended the event.
H.E. Charles Savarin, President of Dominica and H.E. Lu Kun, Chinese Ambassador to Dominica delivered speeches at the function.
President Savarin spoke highly of the development of China-Dominica relations. He recalled the major assistance China provided to Dominica in areas of infrastructure, agriculture, education and medical services, saying the assistance has helped a lot in promoting Dominica’s economic and social development and improving people’s lives.
He said China is a true friend of Dominica, helping in the recovery efforts after Dominica suffered devastating tropical storms. The event “China-Dominica Friendship Day” is the best manifestation of the close China-Dominica relations, which are going to be even better in the future.

Ambassador Lu Kun applauded the wise decision the government of Dominica made 15 years ago to establish diplomatic relations with China and expressed appreciation to those who have made positive contributions to the development of bilateral relations.
Lu said over the past 15 years of diplomatic relations, China and Dominica have continued to strengthen their relations and expand their areas of cooperation, which has widely benefitted the people of two countries.
Lu stressed that friendship between the people holds the key to sound state-to-state relations. This event aims to strengthen such friendship so as to lay a solid foundation for the bilateral relations. Lu expressed his wishes that the flower of friendship continues to blossom and the tree of cooperation keeps yielding more fruits.
“China-Dominica Friendship Day” consists of Chinese Culture Exhibition, Chinese Food Exhibition, Chinese Products Exhibition, Medical Services and Poker Magic Show. In addition, performances and Q&A sections were arranged. Dominican students performed martial arts and recorder playing. In particular, the Dominican singer sang famous Chinese songs, Jasmine Flower and Friends, bringing the show to a climax. The event was unanimously praised by the attendees.
When is Dominica to China hand over day going to be for the giving of Dominica to China as a new Chinese colony? When China calls all the debt and Skerrit is unable to pay he will have to give Dominica to China as re-payment.
Why is the Skerrit regime so intend to shuff this Chinese stuff down Dominicans throat?? If you all (Skerrit, Savarin, Blanchard etc.) love it so much don’t let us stop you. Do us the common courtesy and respect our sceptic view. The ordinary Dominican has no business with anything China and never will have. Skerrit, respect the wish of the people!!!
I am saying once again big thank you to China for your support during bad times and beyond you are a true friend to Dominica and its people. Pm Skerrit and his government has always picked right and proper people to be their friends unlike some other vagrant we know about collecting money in a hat, enough said for now saving the rest for later!!!!
You would do, wouldn’t you? No surprise here. Watch out, Chinese eat dog!

I think its funny that they had the kids there showcasing their Karate Skills. If i was chinese id have been insulted, as Karate is indigenous to Japan. If you are familiar with asian culture, you would know that Japanese look down on Chinese people and consider themselves better at times. At one point in time, Japan sought to control China and even called Chinese people, “The sick man of Asia”.
@ Karl Orndem, What’s your problem now. Japanese look down on every one they once called themselves the purest race on this planet earth. By the way the European has done the same by calling the British sick man of Europe Britain only turned around and pointed 4 fingers at them.
What are the Brish then if they are not Europeans? What continent they living on? They must be aliens.
Pipo, The United Kingdom is not on the continent of Europe and don’t much consider it self to be European the British has always stands alone and don’t like European telling it how to run their own business and country.
Man who bites dogs. You really did not pay attention in geography lesson in school, did you, If Great Britain is not in Europe, what continent is it on? Even child should know that brother.
Actually Japanese admire and have recently began to emulate many indigenous cultures and subcultures apart from theirs. I can attest to that. For example, in recent times they have embraced soca music and caribbean culture to the point where they have clubs and raves just for that musical genre. They wave the flags of their favorite caribbean islands and even have carnival style festivities. Same for reggae, rap and even “chicano”/ mexican culture. Its not only Japanese who called chinese this name. Koreans have done this also. that is an actual fact. So its not about what my problem is, its what is actual. Research Mighty Crown, one of the baddest reggae sound systems on the planet. they hail from Japan. However, Ask a Japanese if they would like to mate with a Chinese, they would most likely say No. So displaying Japanese culture at a Chinese event, to me is disrespectful. they should have tried Tai Chi or Wing Chun.
Ok consider Irish culture being displayed to Scottish people by Dominicans who think all European culture is the same.
Where were Roosevelt Skerrit and Francine Baron?
