Despite the hard economic crisis, which makes Christmas more subdued than other years, the Crayfish River Development Committee was able to host a Children’s Christmas party and delivered hampers to the elderly and shut-ins of the Community. This effort must be applauded.
Though it was obvious to all that Christmas 2023 was less prominent than in the past, most Kalinagos are not overly concerned about the decline of Christmas. This can be attributed to the secularism of the religious aspect of the season. Or, could it also mean that as Christianity was forced on the Kalinago people, causing them to abandon their cosmic religious beliefs, today they want to reclaim the religious beliefs and traditions of their forefathers, leaving very little room for Christian traditions such as Christmas?
The older folks lament the fact that “Christmas is not Christmas anymore.” What that implies is that the spirit of giving, love, celebration, joy, merriment, and family unity is dying with the passing of each year. Despite the hard economic times (the lack of money is a real pain for many), the Crayfish River Development Committee under the leadership of Mr. Sheridan Danny Burton, took steps to brighten up the Christmas Spirit by bringing joy to many in the community. This was achieved by hosting a Christmas Children’s party for over fifty children including their parents.
Marcia Burton said, “It is necessary to lift up [the] spirit of these children”. All the children walked home with toys in their hands and gladness in their hearts. On Christmas Day, the Development Committee sustained efforts, this time with a visit to 25 elderly persons and sick individuals bringing a gift (hamper) and singing carols to them. It was truly a moment of grace.
Sheridan said, “We had two successful Christmas activities and we are thankful to God for his strength and guidance; to all our sponsors because they have contributed so generously to this cause and we pray God’s blessing upon them, to the members of the Committee for their dedication”.
When asked about next Christmas, he said that this is an activity they intend to keep up.

Satan knows that he destroyed our pockets , purses, wallets, and our ability to celebrate Christmas , as we once did under democratic leadership, so he through his evil spirits went in the towns and villages giving brown envelopes of dirty money, rotten ham and turkey loaded with all devilish ingredients to keep us blind and doltish, children parties like king Nebuchadnezzar did, to keep our children in darkness, free dance all over the place though they were empty because people had no money to buy drinks and so on. So people didn’t celebrate Christmas in no community as Satan removed Christ from Christmas in Dominica and inserted his evil and very corrupt spirit
