The statement released by the government of Dominica informing the nation and the world that the Commonwealth of Dominica is unable to host the ICC Cricket World Cup matches in June 2024, demonstrates the highest level of state incompetence, gross disrespect, an insult, embarrassment and international public humiliation to the citizens of Dominica.
The hosting of World Cup sporting events is a dream for many nations who go to great lengths to bid for the award of these events. Cricket is the best possible sporting event that the entire Caribbean region can host and this only presents itself once in a cycle of more than 20 years, considering that the West Indies have only hosted the ODI world cup once in its 45 years history and this is the first opportunity for hosting the T20 World Cup since its inception. When the next opportunity is presented in about 2050, many of us will have gone to the great beyond.
Therefore, for the government of Dominica to surrender such a golden opportunity indicates that the government does not appreciate the significance of their actions and the negative consequences that this decision will have on all sectors of an economy that is in a downturn.
There is no doubt that within the government’s machinery there is a visible absence of competent and capable resources to deliver the services that were required to successfully accomplish the hosting of the Cricket World Cup matches but given the government’s policy of excluding qualified professionals who they perceive as not supportive of the Dominica Labour Party from all aspects of the governance, this is the result. A significant loss for the increasingly impoverished nation.
Among all the mishaps of the government over the years, this abortion of the cricket world cup opportunity has the most devastating impact on all sectors of the economy and is a wasted opportunity for promoting Dominica in the future at minimal cost.
International promotion of destinations like Dominica is difficult and costly, yet the government gets the opportunity for the country to be promoted to the world, except China, at minimal cost and it blows it away without an explanation nor an apology. This was the time for the Commonwealth of Dominica to bring an end to the confusion of mistaking it with the Dominican Republic.
The government’s approach towards hosting the T20 World Cup matches was aimed at gaining political points, not realizing that they did not have the capacity to undertake such a responsibility without a broad-based mechanism established. The first thing the government should have done was to establish a Cricket World Cup committee comprising of the Cricket association, hotel and tourism, business, entertainment, security, and other relevant stakeholders. This committee would have taken the responsibility of organizing the events, but no, it was left in the hands of a cabinet of novice apprentices who have not organized a rounders competition in their lifetime.
In any real country, heads would roll. But will heads roll in the Commonwealth? In fact, the whole government should go but it appears that all those who would have benefitted from the Cricket World Cup are prepared to remain mute and allow the government to escape with yet another travesty.
It is unfortunate that a government can be allowed to escape unpunished with such blatant atrocities against its people. But who cares?

Windsor Park is the biggest night club in Dominica when every the pal rep want it for sewo it available but what it was build for cannot be played there .

I was supprise because they a my friends i am very dissapointed in those guys ,Sommer Set was one of the powerful team in dominica we played in the gregoire league in roseau, them we move to the western leauge that was the best cricked that ever played dominica, after that the game took a dive , and the same guys that played the game with so much passion let skerrit and his goons kill the sport Stjoe.
St joe was a mecca for cricket they had there own little league at that time there were three cricket team in St joe them layou came out with a team , man what a shame.

Would it not be a less complicated way by simply stating that- due to the fact that Roosevelt pays to have these games brought to the island; in addition at government expense; buys all the tickets and distribute among his supports renders the event over five days none profitable, hence, it is better to stand back to allow a country with larger population, better economy host these test matches?

You are true to form. Completely pointless and inane in attempting to excuse the inexcusable.
Speak to people in the Cricket Association. Speak to the people managing the Windsor Park. Speak to the Ministry of Sports.
They will all have a different story and different excuses. People like Liam Sebastien prefer to go infront the PM and smile and play friend to give him a t20 shirt for the local league (nothing wrong with that) but not make noise about the bigger picture. For years a Dominican headed the Cricket board, but none of our players were ever selected. Eventually after his departure 2 of ours were.
Dominicans, we need to start taking Dominica seriously. We need to stop this laisses fait “so it is” attitude. It is the way it is BECAUSE WE HAVE ALLOWED IT TO BE SO. and if WE do not make the changes necessary it will continue to be so.
This long winded essay says nothing but the usual politics. Disappointed? Most definitely! It appears that the government took a studied decision before deciding to pull the plug on this venture, when they realized that they would not be able to meet the ICC requirements by the deadline. The governments ambitions seems to be way ahead of their ability to deliver. Jamaica one of the giants of WIC did not submit a bid they claimed that the resources can be better spent in other areas to develop cricket in Jamaica. Better planning next time.

Well learn this: International (test cricket) was only played on four islands in the West Indies:
..Jamaica – Population 2,825,188
.Barbados – 282,131
.Trinidad – 1,536,366
.Guyana -816,391
These four nations had the monopoly, until the Birds of Antigua shelled out the millions of dollars to get a test match in Antigua, and ultimately paid to get WI cricket headquarters in Antigua.
Compensation for that at one time there were seven Antiguans playing on the team at one time.
Note: Roosevelt did not pull any plug on West Indies Cricket, money is the issue, Dominica cannot afford to spend what we don’t have to host the games. our population of less than fifty thousand cannot sustain that even if people continually gets free tickets.

Dominica men are so incompetent and weak.

Dominica’s development has been severely stymied by hyper-political partisanship particularly under this present authoritarian regime. A country makes giant progressive strides when its collective brain power is harnessed and put to work in the best interest of all.
Just imagine if this government had put narrow political partisanship aside for this grandiose event, work with the best, most talented and brightest citizens, what a SPLASH this relatively unknown country could have made on the international stage.

The issue is dominicans rely too heavily on government. the stadium should be ran by a private entity so that these types of things do not require government intervention. run these facilities like businesses. geeez
