Concord brothers charged with aggravated burglary at Do It Center

Two brothers of Concord, 23-year-old Rodan Burton and Glendon Burton 26, are now remanded in custody at the Dominica State Prison following a charge of aggravated burglary preferred against them by the police.

According to acting Inspector of Police, Fixton Henderson, on Thursday 29 September, 2022, about 6:25 p.m, two men wearing hoodies and surgical masks, entered Do It Center Hardware store situated on Goodwill Road, each armed with a fish gun.

“Having entered, the men grabbed a deposit bag which was on a counter and made good their escape with the bag.The bag contained a quantity of cash and cheques made out to Do It Center,” he reported.

Following an “immediate” investigation launched by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Rodan who resides in Bena Ravine, Canefield and Glendon who lives in  Castle Comfort were arrested and charged with the offense of aggravated burglary.

On Friday 7th October 2022, the men appeared before the Roseau Magistrate’s court where the charge was read to them. The accused were not required to enter a plea since the matter is an indictable offense and is  expected to be heard at the High court of Justice before a judge and jury.

At the hearing, the prosecution did not object to bail however the accused men were unable to represent a suitable surety to the court and were subsequently remanded into custody pending their Preliminary Inquiry.

Hello and good afternoon my people. First I want to congratulate our Officers for quickly apprehending the perpetrators of this vicious crime. Reading the article since I frequented this business before am sure the business was open therefore the charges should be Robbery 1st degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 1st degree. Also they shouldn’t qualify for bail because of the severity of this crime therefore they should remain in jail until their trial. I say no bail.

Well the business owners like the one involved are supporters of the ills going on in Dominica. They remain silent because they figure its not affecting them. It was time they start knocking on their door steps so they will stop supporting all the illegal nonsense taking place in Dominica. No Justice No Peace!!!!!

Five comments on here already and not one stating the obvious … the police did a phenomenal job apprehending the perpetrators in very short order. Hats off to them and BIG salute. What deters crime is not so much the sentence but the probability of getting caught and I want to take a moment to commend the police service for doing what they can (in trying circumstances) to maximize that possibility. I just wish the justice system was even half as swift and efficient.

Skerrit took our jobs from our young people and turned them into all manner of criminals. By the sweat of thy brow thou shall eat bread was God’s plan from the beginning. That Skerrit replaced with “come to me”

Aggravated burglary is a very serious crime. Lives could have been lost in this incident. Innocent people are traumatised for the rest of their life. Therefore, if these two men are found guilty by a jury of their peers, I hope they are not given a slap on the wrist.

Violent crimes are spiraling out of control in this once tranquil paradise over the last two decades. The relevant authorities expend too much resources trying to persecute unarmed and law abiding citizens ( the Wednesday morning walkers, opposition members, etc.), instead of directing those said resources to fight real crimes and lawlessness.
