Couple pleads not guilty to disorderly conduct at police station

Amy Laronde and her boyfriend Carlton Williams are now on $4,000.00 bail following their not-guilty plea to charges of disorderly conduct and abusive language preferred against them by the police.

Recently a now-viral video surfaced of a confrontation between police officers and a civilian at the charge office of the Roseau Police Station.

Following the incident, Laronde of Corona Estate and Williams of Bellvue Chopin were arrested and charged. They were granted station bail in the sum of $4,000.00 each to appear in court on May 9, 2023.

At their court appearance this morning, Laronde and Williams, who were jointly charged with disorderly conduct pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The police allege that on May 3, 2023, the couple did conduct themselves in a disorderly manner in a public space namely the Roseau Police Station charge office by refusing to leave the said location and using loud offensive language.

Laronde who further stood charged with the use of abusive language pleaded not guilty to the charge.

It is alleged, on May 3, 2023, at the Roseau Police Station charge office she did make use of certain offensive language to Judy Anslem by saying to her “bitch you assaulted me, this bitch is assaulting me.”

Following their not-guilty pleas, the prosecution did not object to the continuation of their bail. The couple’s surety was examined by the court and both were released on $4,000.00 bail and ordered to return to court on September 12, 2023, for the start of their trial.

They are represented by attorney-at-law Wayne Norde.

I just know it for a fact that what we have passing as a police force in Dominica, is the biggest mockery of a police organisation on planet earth:
    they are stupid
    they lack manners and discipline
    they are 99.999% political
they serve politicians not the people
they can’t approach people in a decent manner.
    they are generally badly trained.
It’s a total mess and degeneration of policing.
    Dominica is in serious trouble!!

More pressure on the UWP semi- lunatics and their blood vessels will burst. To become a member of the CPF one must have 4 GCE or CXC subjects, unlike your UWP boss..Freedom of speech my A.Indecent, abusive, threatening, insulting in a public place are all offences under the small charges act.Police Headquarters is a public place.A public place is a place to which the public has access.Jacka.I support the police bring back respect to the force. The police were disrespected by IBO and UWP between 1995 and 2000.The constitution? That is why all your blue cases were dumped in the gabbage pail, ignorant bums.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 1 Thumb down 12

There are only two days of FREE Disorderly Conduct in Dominica – Carnival Monday and Tuesday. You are forgiven on Ash Wednesday. Even the Pope sees nothing wrong with disorderly conduct. Because it’s all over the place. The Catholic Church is going bankrupt for child abused cases. They rather go bankrupt than to look into disorderly conduct. Which police officer who hasn’t behaved disorderly? Which political leader who has not behaved disorderly and disrespectfully?

There are many people who have disappeared as if in thin air in Dominica. The ‘police’ are completely clueless as to these people whereabouts. There are also many unsolved homicides, burglaries, and untouched white collar crimes screaming for attention.

For six and seven years, there are serious cases tied up in the court. The victims and accused languish in limbo. The court seems overwhelmed and ill-equipped with the large number of trials to be dispatched. Isn’t it ironic and even ludicrous to add this trivial, needless case to the court docket?

Dominica is a unique space on the surface of globe for all the wrong reasons.

@ds, so now you want to use your perceived power Skerritt has given to you to get people you don’t agree with to shut up on DNO? You want to decide for the admin of DNO who and what is a nuisance. Be reminded that there’s freedom of speech still in Dominica. You once wished for your family to throw me out in the streets of America for expressing my point of view on DNO. You don’t have any understanding nor appreciation for what Democracy is.

These thumbs are coming from the UWP cabal supporters. They are the only ones reading crap and supporting crap. Intelligent people do not take part in bagalaga roro.

I agree. The Court could simply issue a warning and be done quickly with this trivial matter.

How about charging the loose cannon who used such language as, “TO HELL WITH THE CONSTITUTION”? That okay, right?

We all have witnessed the excesses and abuses of unarmed civilians by Roosevelt’s paramilitary force comprised of illiterates, loose canons, hooligans, outlaws and mobsters.

Taking photos in an unrestricted public place is not illegal. The ‘police officers’ are ignorant of the law. All they do is to use the colour of law to physically assault and arrest unarmed civilians.

Most of the officers who are recruited in the CDPF are school dropouts. They go in at entry level and get stuck there. To move up in rank, they have to show unquestionable loyalty to Roosevelt, the godawful man of self.

You are the biggest a** I ever came across. Try this little experiment: walk up to one of the cashiers at the bank take out your phone and start recording. Had I been a police officer right then and there I would have slapped some senses into her empty head. Which part of the law grants her that right to get into the office where reports are taken and start recording?

I try hard not to engage in any sort of argument or debate with fools. They drag you down in the mud to their level and beat you with experience.

A bank is privately owned so the owners can dictate what goes on inside. They have the exclusive rights to set the rules. The police station is a public place. Can you show me any law in Dominica where photography or video taping is a crime in a public space? Post that law on this forum.

Ensure that you are armed with the objective facts before making yourself look foolish. Before you pen anything, ensure what you are publishing would improve the environment.

So there are cases languishing in the courts for years and the police could not find anything better to do than to add another 2 asinine charges to the already overburdened list. Brilliant!!
