The ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment has confirmed three new COVID-19 deaths in Dominica.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. David Johnson, made the announcement at a Ministry of Health press briefing on Friday night.
“Our second COVID death was a 70 year-old male with underlying conditions who was admitted to the COVID Isolation Unit on August 8th, 2021,” Dr. Johnson said. “This patient subsequently tested negative on PCR and was discharged for transfer to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital. However, the patient subsequently succumbed to the illness on August 26th, 2021.”
He said the third death was a 78 year-old male with pre-existing conditions who was admitted to the COVID Isolation Unit on August 18th, 2021 and who also died on August 26th.
“The fourth COVID-19 death was a 74 year-old female with underlying conditions who was admitted the COVID Isolation Unit on August 22nd, 2021 and passed away today,” Dr. Johnson revealed.
The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Dominica now stands at four. The first COVID related death in this country was that of a 46 year-old female, also with pre-existing medical conditions, who died at the COVID Isolation Unit on August 17th, 2021.
Dr. Johnson extended deepest sympathies on behalf of the Government of Dominica and the Ministry of Health to the families of the deceased.
Meanwhile, The CMO reminds the public to remain vigilant and adhere to all public health measures and protocols, “to protect us from the Covid-19 Virus.”
“I must empathize the importance of protecting of our elderly during this Pandemic as they are vulnerable and are at high risk of developing severe symptoms from the Covid-19 disease,” he remarked.
Condolences to all those who have lost family members. To me, the report is sending the wrong message. I know better though that Covid is also killing many healthy people including young people and children without any underlying or pre existing health conditions. The health services should avoid making it look and sound as if it is only people with underlying or pre existing health conditions that Covid is affecting and killing. Covid does not have any boundaries, my people please get the vaccine, mask up, avoid super spreader, (Siwo) events and practice good hygiene always. Dominica, let’s do what we can to prevent further preventable COVID deaths. Preventive measures other than vaccination are what will work immediately to save lives. Vaccination is, however, a very effective longer term strategy. After listening to a popular Dominican YouTuber, it became apparent how deeply-seated is the mistrust of vaccines. If busting some myths will help, allow me.

RESPONSE: The study of our bodies’ immune system has its own branch of medicine – immunology – founded in the 19th century. Today, some of the most advanced medical treatments in the world are specifically designed to target the human immune system. Why interfere with our natural immunity? Because we can get sick when it fails or goes into overdrive. Disease happens when our natural body systems don’t work as God intended. The immune system is no different. This is the Ministry of Health go to phrase now every time some dies – pre-existing/underlying conditions. If a one week old baby happens to die as a result of becoming infected with the COVID-19 virus, they are sure to declare that the baby had pre-existing medical conditions.
They hold no press conferences to answer the many pertinent questions on the minds of the citizens. The local lazy journalists and reporters are stenographers. If he was negative why the illness meaning Covid. Does this mean on a test after he was positive.
Were they vaccinated or not.

Enquiring minds would like to know the vaccination status of these three victims of the virus. Where they not vaccinated, partially vaccinated or fully vaccinated?
Why is the Ministry of Health so hang up of stating that all four persons had pre-existing medical conditions but has failed to provide the vaccination status of these four persons?

Dominica is the first country I am heari g people are renovering so quickly. Either you all have Very good system or a Very low knowledge og Covid and are unsure of what is happening in Dominica. I think it is time to let the public Know, that you are incapable of carring out your duty properly.

This rule to get vaccinated should have nothing to do with police stopping people to find out whether or not they are vaccinated. People should know the responsibility for the safety and others in their environment, the law should make that mandatory.
Here is an example from a City in British Colombia, a province in Canada, where the positive Corvid-19 individuals are soaring high.
It says: “Unvaccinated patients are turned away from Enderby clinic”. I will not take the vaccine against corvid-19, you people are saying? Well, they may die from their other health complications because British Columbia wants to protect her people who will abide by the rules, for their own health and safety–there is no other way
