17-year-old charged with attempted murder

court1A 17-year-old youth is now on remand at the State’s prison after he was denied bail by a Roseau magistrate.

The young man is facing a charge of attempted murder.

Police prosecution Inspector Claude Weekes objected to bail on the basis that the victim involved is still in an “unconscious state” in a Martinique hospital.

According to police reports on Friday June 7, the victim, 18-year-old Balton Watt, was in an altercation with the young man at Fond Cole when he sustained a wound to his head, inflicted by a sharp object.

Watt was taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Princess Margaret Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

The following day he was flown to Martinique to receive further treatment.

Balton was never injured before in any gang related incident as far as is known. Please verify before stating comments which are untrue.
The one who was injured while working with the surveyor is a worker of his. You can check at his office, the police station or the hospital to verify your facts.
Balton we continue to pray for your recovery. This is what you need now.
PLEASE PEOPLE HAVE A HEART FOR BALTON’S FAMILY AND STOP ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS.

  5. Hill side Vs Hole
    June 13, 2013

The young boys in Fond Cole have a stupid war going on, where those living in the hole(landfill area) and those living on the hill fight each other whenever they find a ‘hill man’ in the ‘hole’ and vice versa. Just in February last year, that same Balton Watt was attacked when he came on the hill on a survey project with his father. he was knocked out with a stone like a fowl…almost dead…by the rival ‘gang’. Just like another ‘hill guy who found himself in the landfill area and was stoned as well and was at ICU December before that …..

This one happened in the ‘hole’the perpertrator is a ‘hill’ man and was on a bus: Fond Cole buses usually go that way first so if a ‘hill’ man is on a bus that is going in there, maybe he gets off because if he is caught they will not even consider the other passengers on the bus when they start stoning…

So although the guy is wrong…..it is a gang related incident, and the victim is not innocent. “Poor Balton poor Balton”

I do hope that he makes a good recovery and they can all realize that their gang shit makes no sense…. this is the most senseless gang rivalry i have ever seen.

17 year-old charged with attempted murder. Where did he go wrong and at such a young age? He appears to be someone with a bad temper who lacks discipline and respect for others and their life. Now he is in prison and who knows for how long after the case is called. What a waste of a young life. This is a youth who needs rehabilitation.
I hope the injured fully recovers in time.

    Frabo,
Don’t forget the tourists Dominica is trying to attack are not naive about crimes. It happens everyday in the countries where they come from and it does not happen everyday in Dominica. NOT saying that saying that we should support it in Dominica. Some of the Tourists have committed crimes themselves.

  20. Frabo
    June 11, 2013

Don’t forget, the “tourists” you all are attempting to attract are reading up on crimes that are being committed on the Islands they visit. So go ahead, all you are doing a good job by keeping them away from the lawlessness in Dominica. My cousin was coming to visit, she changed her mind for fear of what’s happening here in Dominica. Now, I don’t know when I’m going to see my cousin. What a Rat Race!!!

    • Strupessssssss
      June 11, 2013

You sound so ridiculous. What is going on in Dominica NOW is nothing compared to what is happening in the countries or states that the TOURISTS come from. Maybe your cousin does not have any money to come home and wants to use that as an excuse….. bout she not coming because of crime… LMAO… tell her it is ok to come because she have nothing worth going to jail for, or maybe you can go visit her…oh I forgot you can’t, the criminals stole your monies and your fake visa… guess you are stuck in a place that is infested with crime..sorry….LMFAO

        June 11, 2013

don’t be ridiculous.. Frabo is absolutely right. Not only tourists read such typical news but also foreign governmental agencies collect such information and give periodical updates to their citizens regarding safety of particular country. Try to search a bit regarding Dominica in the internet and you will find a lot of interesting stories: dirty streets of Roseau, urinating vagrants begging money for next fix, agressive youths, a lot of knives and firearms, men disrespecting women…you name it. I wont be surprised if DNO admin just wont publish my comment..as its very typical for Dominicans to be blind to obvious things and be deaf to unpleasant voices

    • hmm
      June 12, 2013

do not be fooled. Dominica is a virgin compared to crime rates around the world. and i hope ur cousin is not from USA becomes is there that have

so people have to stay in the dark just to get tourists into d/ca ? you mad or wah ?

    • DA
      June 12, 2013

This is ridiculous. America has the highest crime rate in the world but people flock to it everyday seeking greener pastures. every where has crimes. Almost every country reports their news on the internet now. Your cousin must be living in a country with no crime

  21. ReeAreLeeTea
    June 11, 2013

I’m just saying => when there is such a big gap in wealth, such an outlandish display of fortune while others can’t seem to get a break and such lack of systems of motivation and propagation of the youth, these things aren’t just bound to happen, but statistics show that criminal activity among youth will increase exponentially. I’m just saying.

    • hmmm
      June 12, 2013

Boss bring back the cat-o-nine tails.

If that yute man knew that he would be imprisoned and every month he would be ceremoniously taken out to be given about 5 strokes with a doctor in attendance and all that, he would have not done it.

Right now this yute man in prison with his chest puffed up and his reputation made; he is a BAD Man.

All you people with all you ‘spare the rod’ foreign policies contributing more to the criminal degredation of Dominica than the criminals themselves.

That is what the white slave masters use to do the black slaves.

      • BE FAIR!!!
        June 12, 2013

u_u Tebeh… a cat o’ nine tails is defined as: a type of multi-tailed whip that originated in approx. 1695 as an implement for severe physical punishment against miscerants, notably in the Royal Navy and Army of the United Kingdom, and also as a judicial punishment in Britain and some other countries.

Yes white slave masters might have used it, but it was not created by them to punish blacks, it was around… and they utilized it for that purpose at that time, stop being ignorant!!!!

      • Anonymous
        June 12, 2013

Well so be it, if that’s what it takes to gain control of criminals. Maybe we need the white slave masters to return.

last week a certain “business man” from newtownwas arrested at a European port of entry. his name was not divulged as according to DNO, he was not yet charged with any offence. that is now history. the point is DNo made heavy weather of waiting for an official charge before releasing a name, even when everybody in Domibnica knew otherwise.

In this instance somebody has been charged and remanded, yet no name. Is he a minor under his parents care why the name is not released? Or is it a case of inconsistency in reporting?

    • budman
      June 12, 2013

if you read the article properly, you would realise that the perpetrator was 17. Therefore, he is a minor. you know it is not lawful to print the minor’s name.
