AFTER BRAWL: Athletics qualifiers to continue tomorrow

An armed officer and his colleague speak to a man during yesterday's disturbance at Windsor Park Stadium.

The sports division within the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport, says it intends to resume the 31st Secondary Schools Athletics Qualifiers event at the Windsor Park as early as tomorrow.

Yesterday’s event was cut short following a series of brawls that the Sports Division say was initially provoked by a non-student that led to a series of inter-school fights among students and their relatives. The chaos was stopped only after the intervention of about a dozen police officers that had taken at least 13 individuals to the police headquarters for questioning.

She said the Division would issue an official statement on the matter today.

Police Spokesman Claude Weekes said investigations are ongoing into the matter. He did not comment on whether or not any of the individuals taken to headquarters yesterday were detained or charged.

And the violence takes a turn for the worse. It is like trickle-down economics. If the adults can do it and walk free then why cant the youths who are less accountable to society. Children live what the learn in most cases. Hail Mary Full of Grace…………….

want the government have to do with violence….its is parents that have to raise there children rite. i would find it very UNFAIR that the NECS be disqualified when it it was the town students that stated it all and they were just defending themselves and what they stand 4….. so after all of this NECS still came out on top….the best out of all the rest…for another year

@mac: We are the ones putting all this curse on our country by always wishing for bad things to happen. If we all lift our heads towards the God above , he is sure to answer our prayers. Let us all pray for this island state that is falling by the wayside through our own faults. Stop blaming the government and others for our misfortunes.

12:13 police:individuals (WOW! ridiculous) I agree with “nip it in the bud”. I believe all schools involved should be disqualified however i think all parites involved should be disciplined. If all schools involved are disqualified then you won’t have a true competition. This situation doesn’t just stem from the provokation of the non-student but on a child’s lifestyle and how he/she is/was raised. Any mature individual would understand why he/she is on a field. Parents need to step up and instill in their kids moral values topped with responsibility. If parents train their kids in the right way then all this fighting and violence and straying could be avoided. Children don’t forget what they were taught from infancy. This rebellious spirit that is now apparent in our young children can be traced back on their up-bringing. If we want to see a different youth(generation) we need to bring back moral values.

whereas it maybe true that the incident was a display of lack of discipline, i disagree that the efforts ans successes of those who worked hard and was not involved should be ripped away from them because of one or two students. through disqualifying all the teams whose members were involved thats what you would be doin

I think we need to send a clear message to our youh, since sports requires discipline. I think that the Sports division should take a decision to disqualifie all schools which were involved int he brawl. Let us teach our young persons to be responsible for their actions. If you are not disciplined you cannot be a sports personality.
