Alleged serial burglar denied bail on security grounds

An alleged serial burglar was denied bail today on the grounds that his security may be at risk because of a possible reaction from the public.

The Portsmouth man appeared before Magistrate Evalina Baptiste at the Roseau Magistrate Court Monday morning, where 14 charges of burglary were read to him.

Felix Low, 41, is suspected by authorities of stealing groceries, alcohol, jewelry, household and electronic items from houses in Morne Daniel, Goodwill and Portsmouth.

“It happened systematically over a calculated period,” police prosecution told the court of the crimes which occurred during the period of August last year to March, 2011.

Police prosecution objected to bail of the suspect who is currently remanded at the Stock Farm Prison. “There may be possible reactions from the public that may end up in the defendant not being available for trial,” prosecution told the Magistrate Baptiste.

Low was unrepresented by counsel and the preliminary Inquiry is set for the October 13.
