Another teacher attacked at DGS

There has been another attack on a teacher at the Dominica Grammar School (DGS), a leading secondary school on the island and government-owned.

It comes mere weeks after a male teacher was struck by a student with a piece of wood at the DGS.

Like the first incident, a male teacher was again on the receiving end from another male student at that educational institution.

The teacher has been identified as Michael Augustine.

The matter is now in the hands of the police who were called in.

DNO is following the story and will bring more details as they become available.

i understand the situations with these students…they just cant control their anger…………but still if a teacher knows the danger of this child he would not hit or display any unkind behavior with this student….this teacher should have brought the situation with the principal and his parents………..and trust me there is more to come

the school is an institution which should be able to institute rules of it;s own not by the dictates coming from those Desk bound technocrats sitting behind their desk at the ministry of education,do these technocrats know that these students all look like American gansters with their trusers way down on their hips,or male students wearing earrings to school,or boys and girls wearing dread locks to school, all these things should be disallowed.Granted, the students do have rigths but the school should have rules governing its administration. In an effort to mimic the American model these Desk bound technocrats have made a mess of what is a right which should have been a privilege.Incidentally is there a curfew for school children

Universal education is the problem. Universal education with no universal employment just leads to children knowing that pass or fail I will go to school and do good or bad I may or may not get a job. There is no incentive to excel and do good and behave in a proper manner.

Now we all know universal employment is a myth. So to little johnny who doesn’t do work and misbehaves knows his father/mother will get him a job or send him to the US to study….and little sally behaves and studies and is jobless after high school and college……get rid of universal education spend less on keeping them in school and more on advancing those that actually want to be there. Not everybody will be a lawyer or doctor. Some people work better with their hands.

Give the students incentives to achieve and they will behave and perform. And @blood I feel your frustration being kicked out of DGS the time you was. I went to school with you a lot of the people kicked out were my friends. Some, not all the teachers put an extra effort to teach the #-1 classes while their efforts to teach the #-3 and #-4 classes were mediocre at best. That had a part to play in it. I was always asking why we didn’t mix the students instead of classifying them by academic ability.

I have been a teacher at a small west coast primary school for the past 5 years and let me state that these behaviours are seen from the even the little ones, though not as drastic……. the diffrence is that they’re smaller and hold a greater fear for corporal punishment than their high school counterparts…..in my 3rd year, a grade 6 pupil struck a teacher with a stone that hit her in the middle of her back……ministry never responded except to question her at length for how she handled the matter, and put some shady comments on her end of year appraisal…..the problem stems from the message that the ‘ministry’ sends to children as well….they know the education act is in their favour..they know that they have more rights than us teachers….they know their parents are friends with minister so and so, education officer so and so…so they are not bothered by consequences to these actions because they know it’s only a slap on the wrist they’ll recieve at the end….parents too have a big role to play…..they curse teachers, criticize us and even tell their children “don’t listen to dat teacher dere”…..how u expect children to behave?????

i dont blame the kids i blame the society u all created for them. young ones dont own a porn shop its the elders who do…young ones are not in charge of the cable tv…hmmm its the elders who own the cable company…the elders make society n it is passed on to the young ones coming up.b4 u see a young one drinking alcohol lets see how many elders that are in bars drinking while kids are around.the elders built a corrupt society n the young ones learn fr the elders…simple n plain….u all dominicans jus real ignorant trust me….Tiny makes the most sense here right now.the elders who are the leaders so plz tell me y u all blaming the youths eh..where did they learn such attitude huh must b from the babies, aliens or straight fr the devil…elders need to take the blame cuz is u all who created corruption

  7. February 29, 2012

Dominican adults need to be better role models in our society, only then would young people change. We are surrounded by too much negativity and controversey.

The nation needs a spiritual cleansing, not a physical one and pray that God will teach us how to raise our children with love and to think logically before acting.

If you hear how people talk them days in Dominica you’ll be suprised and there are our younger ones soaking up all that negativity. The Government cnnot show you how to raise your child, you are responsible for him or her.

I was a teacher at DGS for ten years and it is really mind-boggling how discipline has deteriorated. We never encountered such levels of disrespect and violence with Mr. Wilson at the helm. I think that the problem lies with Universal Secondary Education. Something needs to be done soon so that the Dominica Grammar School can continue to be the great educational institution that it has always been.

Simple solution. Develop a boot camp program to address the program. Screen for all delinquents and the school with the support of the Ministry of Education refer these students to boot camp. Lights on, lights of, intensive discipline, psychiatric eval., medication administration and monitoring if needed and weekly individual and group therapy., plus educational instruction daily. When you are deemed fit to return to the community you will with external support resources put in place prior to discharge.

Two teachers attacked at the same school in the same month? Then the principal should be investigated. It is evident that the principal is unable to manage the school. A skilled and dynamic individual should be placed at the helm of the Grammar school in order to bring it back to the prestigious level that it once enjoyed. For DGS to be top in academics, top in sports, and top in discipline again, then, the management should be fired ASAP.

well i think you are one of those militant authoritarian individual/parent if you think that i am encouraging any kind of violence…these are not 3 year old kids….some of them are bigger in size than the teachers…..how would you feel if someone just came up and snatch something from your hand…you can’t treat a teenager like you would treat a 4 or 5 year old child….what is wrong in engaging in a meaningful conversation and kindly asking a child to put away the magazine…yes the student knows if he is caught there will be consequences…so the teacher have no right to react in that manner

    The Effects of Authoritarian Parenting
Parenting styles have been associated with a variety of child outcomes including social skills and academic performance.
    The children of authoritarian parents:
    • Tend to associate obedience and success with love

    • Some children display more aggressive behavior outside the home.

    • Others may act fearful or overly shy around others.

    • Often have lower self-esteem.

    • Have difficulty in social situations.

Authoritarian parents have high expectations of their children and have very strict rules that they expect to be followed unconditionally. According to Baumrind, these parents “are obedience- and status-oriented, and expect their orders to be obeyed without explanation.” People with this parenting style often utilize punishment rather than discipline, but are not willing or able to explain the reasoning behind their rules.

      @ Tiny

Are you a parent? Some notion you have about parents who discipline their children. You are so wrong. I hope you do not have children. For with that type of philosophy they will rule you and this is putting it mildly. They will never become loving, useful and peaceful nationals, to mention a few virtues of life. What is more, as a parent, if you are one, God will hold you accountable for not disciplining them.

      @ d.g.s. lover

Children must be children and recognize their place as children.
I attended a high school in DA. At no time did I have a problem with a teacher. I could not complain about any one of them. I was an obedient child because I was nurtured by discipline parents.
None of the teachers shouted at me or had to tell me to behave, sit down, etc.
You know what else? My parents never said to me or their other children that we must behave be it in school, in church or in society. We knew how to behave and how to get along with others in general.
What is wrong with those students that they are not able to conduct themselves as students in school? They have a behavioural problem. Make no excuse for them for they will become worst. Some form of remedy must be established in that school that students can conform to.

Honestly the society values have been damaged a massive blow because of the era we live in..

back then 80s we didnt have all the tech that is around us..but we were far more intune with local global issues..Cee Bees was around we read Newsweek and Times Mags etc and local Newspapers to get a better feel of life and values.

Parents werent kids so that was a plus we had direction even though they may have being the odd student off key but that was ease to bring under wing control..

we let the Golden rule of home and church values blow pass us without taking notice…

just look at our local music “Boyou” Lets face the facts what lyrics in those tracks can help our young folks someone please tell me..

Music directs the youth and a nation but again we have lowered our standards and everyone is afraid of being firm to say so…

Its a broad base approach to get this under control….firstly we have to clear our mental aspect of being a slave for one it will make the Dominican human stronger the will power to be independanton thought…and not create a bend over culture…

Parents have to maintain standards and not give kids that 50 feet rope lenght to do whatever is because they handsome or pretty…its a weak aspect right there…

Dominicans need to call wrong and right where ever they see it in the dark in the corners in high officers in the churches and not be seen as PRENTENDERS….

Im thankful Gabo,Edward Lawrence,Francis Severin,Vanya Jones, and Head Master Anthony Lockhart was around in our era…i remember being beaten in the head master office by Mr.Lockhart..thank God for that..it made me reflect and tightned up on slack ends..

Im still Proud of my five years at DGS..

We the Formers Grads can also play a part in helping the PTA and the School in whatever we can!

    Thanks for reading! God Bless

Agree with your comments. With the advancements in technology, i believe we have exchanged moral decency and discipline. Only God can help us now. But there must be a recognition of wrongdoing, a repentance of this wrong, a turn back to what is right, then will

Wow boy! Respect for authority seems to have taken a back seat in our schools. In my days of high school, we never even thought of talking back to a teacher, much less raising our hands on them. School days were “happy, happy days” as per one of the poems in our Literature class in PSS. I truly hope that those in authority, namely the Ministry of Education, take a serious look at what seems to already be a problem in our schools. The Ministry needs to involve principals, teachers, parents and guardians in formulating some type of plan to end this problem.

I endorse that it should be shut down for a while. If disorder reigns and students refuse to obey as some attack the teachers, for a while it should be shut down until the government – the Minister of Education, the Headmaster and parents meet and solve this situation.
A school cannot continue to function efficiently and teach disobedient children who also attack teachers. Something definitely must be done.

PORN MAGAZINE SHOULD NEVER BE BROUGHT IN SCHOOL. This student is sick of mind and needs to have his head examined. Was he taunting the teacher and his plan was to contaminate the mind of other students?
Tiny, let me further inform you. Such a student, the devil has his soul. He should be excommunicated from school and for injuring a teacher. He does not deserve to be a student of DGS. In this case, I will state DGS has gone to the dogs.

But are you then saying the child retaliated and stuck the teacher?

I see all kinds of problems with this situation. I am not even going to be hard in you because clearly, I see that everyone else has and with good reason.

Then your solution is to start counselling the teen and he will just swiftly put is away immediately…ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…
Was this meant to be entertaining?

And you talk about discipline on here and your idea is that you would have reacted in the same way the kid did had the teacher tried to take your PORN magazine away?????????
Were your parents ‘authoritative’ as you’ve mentioned on here???? Is that why your thoughts are negative and not fruitful???
As I have said earlier, have some children and try your tactics on them and then come on here and tell us how thigs are going for you???

Please do not take my comment out of context.

While it is true that students should not raise their hands on teachers, the respect should be mutual. I know that teachers go through a lot in the classroom and many teachers genuinely care for the well being of our students. However there are teachers who use their authorities to bully, embarrass and belittle students. There have been scuffles at schools which could have been avoided if certain teachers would keep their hands down or not slam a student in her face with a book.

What about the so called teachers who tell students that they are a waste of sperm and eggs? or that they are good for nothing and all they deserve is to be on the street? the school system needs attention and both teachers and students should be taken into account. TEACHERS SHOULD RESPECT STUDENTS IF THEY DEMAND RESPECT…

    • hmmm
      February 28, 2012

what about the countless drop outs who went on to make good for themselves? You can’t blame the school for you not being ready for the institution. The reason for the school’s failings today is because we’re trying our best to give EVERYBODY not 1 chance.. but MANY chances to make good.. and guess what.. ITS NOT WORKING! These students are being forced to conform to a system that they are not ready for! More than that, their PARENTS are not teaching them RESPECT for authority and therefore they believe they can attack people IF and WHEN they want! For many of these students, BTC or youth skills is a better option than other formal education institution.

        February 28, 2012

You find a student who would raise his hand on a teacher and you will find that same child very likely raising his hand on his parent(s). The community no longer raises the child and this is the outcome, children making children and that is the outcome, criminals are not punished to the full extend of the law and that is the outcome. We “society” have gotten lazy and are taking a laid back attitude towards disciplining our children who for the most part are left to their own demise. We give them a television, a computer, a PS2 an ipod/pad, a BB or some other type of cell phone, and we make ourselves absent. We expect them to learn dicsipline, respect and other moral values from these gadgets, so what do we expect? This is the result. In my days if a teacher ask you to hand over something that you were not supposed to have in school, you did not hesitate to hand it over. You did so hoping that the teacher would let it die there, that your parents would not find out about it, because you would get a beating. Now teachers are facing students that are hostile, from a hostile home, where they do not learn how to express themselves and this is the result – the teacher has to use force to take a smutty magazine from a student. I know that teacher and I am sure he would have asked politely the first time and with the student not handing the magazine over he had to use some force, the result is the student attacking the teacher. What else could the teacher have done? Ask him to put the magazine away for him to look at later or share with other kids? People we need to wake up, we are talking as if we are an ignorant people. Kids now are not like in my time, they are vocal and will become hostime and disrespectful if we are not forceful and authoritative with them. There is no negotiating with these kids – do what you have to do as a parent, teacher – just do not abuse them physically or verbally.

These are our future and they will beat us when we get old and we disagree with them!!!

Hi all, first off. We have a big problem in Dominica and the Caribbean, we try to Americanize our system which has failed time and time again yet we do not learn. When I was going to school, a student could not in no time raise his hand on a teacher, that Teacher would knock some sense in that student . Now you cannot touch a child in school and I am the one in charge of you while in my class, come on. Our children are so very angry at the world I wonder what is going on. Parent spend more time with your children don’t just let them be, we should correct them when they go wrong, be of support to them , be a friend but be their parent and a role model . Our leader should see that it is high time to change the act back to the old days. I will be frank any student who hits me will get knock down.

As a former student of the DGS it is very depressing to see what my school has come to. I remember in the days of MR. Felix Wilson these things could never happen. Students have too many rights. I am really sorry for the teachers at the school, because right now I guess they are teaching in fear of their lives. And they are underpaid. Thank you Dice for singing out for the teachers because somebody needed to let people know their plight. The most hurtful thing about the entire situation though is that Mr Hyacinth was at the school for the previous incident and he denied the incident… Clearly the Ministry of Education is not taking the side of the teachers. WHen will they begin to take action? When our schools become like the American schools and students start shooting up the school? SOmething needs to be done!

I must say thanks to those of u who commented in support of the teachers. Being a teacher in the classroom is not an easy task. First I must mention that our students have the majority rights. To add insult to injury teachers r now being beaten by students and the those in authority remain silent. We may not see it now but we r hurting our future and our kids. if this continues we will be forced to become care-free (we sit and do little teaching), the implications of that will be devastating; in that we’ll be sending a bunch of ill- prepared individuals into the world and then we have a chain reaction of unqualified misfits. Never under-estimate the power teacher. I am therefore appealing to the ministers and those responsible before situations like these become the norm and our teachers retaliate. (i am so damn angry, I cant even think straight. Strupes)

If Mr. Augustine, in reaction to this student’s attack on him, had thrown the student over the balcony, then maybe today he would have been crippled or dead. Now many of us would be singing a different hymn…”Oh that teacher wicked, oh that teacher is no teacher, oh that teacher did not react responsibly……oh that teacher this….oh that teacher that….”

Another attach on a teacher at the DGS? What is happening in that school with some of those students? Those disobedient children who attack and injure teachers are not worthy of the school they are attending. In this case the DGS.
It is in the hands of the Police? Let the Police handle it by arresting this child who is a teenager and old enough to know better and the difference between right from wrong. It is obvious that this student has no respect for the teacher(s).
Many of us have written immensely about the incident which occurred a few weeks ago. May the Government, the Minister of Education, the DGS Headmaster and the Police read the comments, pay heed and take action accordingly. Listen to the people!
May this situation never recur at the DGS or in any school in DA for that matter.
A high school of all is a place of higher learning and preparation for the future. It should not be a place where children are disobedient and teachers are attacked and rightfully so as much as trying to discipline them and to establish law and order in the classroom.

This has gotten ridiculous. No teacher should have to work under such conditions. So what happen, teachers can no longer punish students, but students can do teachers what they want?
The teacher’s union needs to speak out about this. All teachers in Dominica should strike until something is done. God forbid a teacher retaliates and the situation gets worse. This is unacceptable.
Parents need to start raising their children properly. I fail to believe that a child who knows that they will face serious consequences for even talking back to a teacher would do something like this. It’s time to stop spearing the rod and spoiling our children. This American culture that we’re adopting is crippling our society. The actions of an unruly few are affecting the students who actually go to school with learning in mind. If they’re not there to learn, then they shouldn’t be there at all. If they want to act like criminals, then they should be prosecuted as such. Its time that we take a stand before it is to late.

I,m can NEVER give the student right for lashing a teacher -physically or verbally-. yet it is annoying when I visit Home,Dominica, and see that so many promissing students whom I just left are roaming around with no sense of direction. I will REPEAT time amd time again thet the C.E.O. AND THE FORMER ASSISTANT C.E.O.-THE POET,WERE AMONG THE FIRST TEACHERS TRAINED FOR THE J.S.P. EDUCATION in DA schools yet they stop the program and it seems that with no proper structure in place in the U.S.E. THE academics are frustrating BOTH teachers and students. I listened to the former CEO, Mr.T. with Mr. A. on Q95on carnival Sunday and it hurt that the ASST.CEO who made milliage in schools and enforcing Rights of Students had the audacity to keep on blaming the MOE for the first incident (SHAME). I had to deal with a teacher & student in a similar case as the first. Blamed them for coloring each other, and strongly ask them to letgo of each other. the child was disiplined BUT I also spoke to the teacher individually and asked that he Never hold a student in his color again.

No matter what, two wrongs do not make a right. In this respect, in a school setting, the teacher should never take the Law into his hands. Rise about that and allow the Law to handle it with your Lawyer. You will be better off for it and will, in the end, receive your satisfaction of rightful compensation if you pursue it in the correct manner.

CHILDREN are vulnerable yes.. but children are supposed to act like children. If they are taught properly to respect ppl.. they tend to behave like children.. there’s a way and a means to deal with individuals under such duress.. and of course, that’s a part of our society we need to fix.. however, that does not take off from the fact that children need to be dealt with like children, until they start taking on the roles of adults.. at this point.. they can no longer be treated as children… would be interesting to see how you’d treat a child who attacks you for telling them that they’re doing wrong…

      @ Really People

I am on your side. Something has to be done immediately about this situation.
I do not think that the teachers are too friendly. They must be friendly to a certain extent and respectful towards the children. They cannot be hostile and show a serious face.
What is occurring today is some children are getting out of hand. You know: “Spare the rod, spoil the child.” I am not insinuating that they should beat the children but they must be disciplined.
It is the duty of the government – the Education Minister and the DGS Headmaster to do something about it. Something is remiss at that school and it is lack of discipline and respect for the teachers. It is the duty of the Government – The Education Minister and the DGS Headmaster to do something about it. Such insubordinate practices and attacking and injuring teachers should never be allowed to take place and condoned. From my point of view those authorities appear to be failing and have failed in this respect.

Many things ae happening in our schools and because of the economic status and last names of the parents of some of these vagabonds, the Ministry of Education Officials are slow to punish them with very harsh punishments. I’ve seen fights at school with cutasses, bloodshed, teachers running for their lives (including me), teachers sustaining injuries trying to save one student from dying under the hands of another and the list goes on. And the Ministry has time and time again FAILED US TEACHERS by allowing those ‘killers’ back in our schools. I am a woman and it frightens me whenever i read such stories. And to make excuses for them like violence is all they know, they live on their own, they got problems etc..is ! We all go through our hard times, me too, but you won’t find me attacking any student with a piece of wood with a nail in it or worst hitting them with a chair. These children, at least the majority of them know that the Education system leans more towards their rights than that of the teachers and so figure they can do whatever they want. But God so help me that anyone of them decides to attack me. I think it’s high time WE TEACHERS STAND UP FOR OUR SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE!!! Ministry of Education needs to know that we are fed up of running away from the students whom we are supposed to protect while in our care because we have to protect ourselves from these very students. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

I truly hope that this is not a reflection of our U.S.E. policy, necessitating secondary schools to take in pupils, regardless whether they are prepared- or qualified for that kind of education.
If we have chosen quantity above quality in education for ideological reasons, we are in for a lot of trouble with a debasement of standards at the expense, not only of our teachers but, even more so all our students.I Our current approach to teaching needs a serious review.

I think enough is enough . we all have children in these schools police alike . So let’s stand in solidarity with our teachers , and say we taking our schools back like Sandy sang , ” take back control “. All those for ? All those against ? Let the eyes have it . Ok. Here is the story. The student was caught with a porn magazine in his possession, with a small group of students looking at the pictures enclosed in the magazine. And no exageration, every page had a different naked woman.

Teacher tried confiscating the magazine and student refused to hand it over. Teacher filnally got an opening and snatched the magazine. Student rushed on teacher and assult broke out.
Teacher did fight back. Student broke the teachers glasses. As to what is going to be done to the student…. Suspended until final decision is made.

Tiny what do you have against teachers? was it their fault that you were naturally a slow learner. So lets say out of a class with 30 students, 5 students cannot understand the topic or the level of the class is too high for them, would you fire the teacher because those 5/30 cannot learn. You said you understand maths now so this is basis maths to work out. Instead you sit on DNO and be negative and make no real contribution, why not apply to become a teacher and make a difference? I seldomly make comments on DNO but I can’t cast a cold eye on this developing story …. Firstly , this media house has been very precise with this story . I
The details isn’t elaborate enough to connotate an objective prospective on this story . However , I must say that the violent attacks in teachers at school is unacceptable . As a former teacher , the class has never been a place of war but rather a place where children are challenged to be all that they can be to make a positive impact in our society . The question that we must ask ourselves is who is the one who is encouraging our children to make such an impact ? Must will agree that it is the TEacher . The same teacher whom our children are now abusing . Is that right ? Is it justify ? What is really happening ? I truly under no circumstance cannot support this unlawful act on our teachers . I am therefore urging our government to put policies in place to protect our teachers and our islands’ educational system or else teachers will begin to walk out of the classrooms and seek other professions. Our government must look at this urgently with prudence and balance !

Just 10 to 15 years ago, these incidents were unheard of or simply very rare. Since that Americanized syndrome of ‘Spare the rod and spoil the child’ thingy has been spreading, violence from children and students in particular have been becoming the norm.

Students have to know that the teacher is an authority over you in the class room. If a teacher offends you then you go to the principal, your parents, or the ministry, but you do not put your hands on a teacher, period.

Shame on all the people here that are making excuses for the students man. Students of yester year had it far more hard than present students and teacher and authorities were respected. If you have a bunch of students that have no respect for authority in the school, what happens tomorrow when they are let loose on society with their no respect for authority entitlement.

Dominica needs corporal punishment now to stem that tide or else Dominica finish. That new way of doing things just not working. Authority needs to be handed back to the adults…

The church is a house of prayer, not a den to make money from tourists. The church members must raise their own money, as we are not all catholics and we have our own church to fix. Taxpayers money come from people of all denominations and therefore cannot be used to fix one church. Government should stay out of religion. Separate church and state What happens when the Pentecostal or Baptist or Jehovah Witnesses need money to fix their church?

The media needs to be careful about how it approaches this situation in our schools.

I would suggest that you FIRST investigate these incidents and decide on how news-worthy they are before diving into a sensationalized account.

These small scuffles at schools are not unusual and are immediately dealt with internally. The media has to be careful that you do not get over excited and in the process make the situation worse.

That is th most stupid comment I have read – small scuffles at schools are not unsual? what school did you go to? It is unacceptable behavior for a student to physically attack a teacher and vice versa.

The fact this has happened twice in less then one month signals a very big problem.

You should be careful what you write as you never know if students from the school are reading.

The student should be expelled IMMEDIATELY – NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

We need to Whip those students, this is nonsense, young people should respect their elders, what the hell is going on in grammar school? Education is to important to expel them, they will only end up in our prisons. Don’t expel anybody, we need to groom them military style.

I wouldn’t be so quick to go to the no questions asked part but I do believe an enquiry should be done immediately with the view of expelling the student. As we all know there are two sides to any story but this honestly does not paint a good picture of the DGS Student body

I agree, with the Police being involved, I do not see why someone would regard this incident as a small scuffle. Is that individual encouraging those small scuffles. Maybe it is time we make public the wickedness of our youths. Might be a tough lesson but they need it.

Interesting perspective. I have a question for you: If someone took a piece of wood with a nail in it and hit you on your head, sending you to the emergency room, would you consider that a “small scuffle”? Kids having minor incidents with other kids can be considered small scuffles and dismissed; but when kids are involved in any incident that becomes physical with teachers, that is a major breakdown in the system. In my opinion, that cannot be consider a small scuffle by any means.

Small scuffles. It it apparent you are not an educator and if in fact you are then I must admonish you.

“Small scuffle” or not no student has a right to raise their hands on a teacher. Why are we holding our children to another set of standards than adults? Had it been the other way around i doubt you would have referred to it as a small scuffle.

These children and I do not wish to generalize as not all students behave or support these behaviours are sadly a product of a warped society. Sadly they, their parents and the Ministry of Education are hiding behind the Education Act which gives students more power than the people charged with facilitating their learning.

Wake up people, some may so its not my child, some may say its not at my school but what we should all say is God help is because it is our Dominica.

Teachers need to band together not in fear of any political back lash and STRIKE. After all, they are under paid, cannot get appointed or have statuses changed after becoming qualified, must parent other peoples’ children when they fail to do the job, they must share their knowledge etc and instead of Government and the necessary authorities stand for those who have such a big hand in shaping our country, they are instead repaid with an unsafe working environment, disregard for their requests etc.

Where is the PM the former teacher, the minister of Education, Hyacinth all former teachers where are they?

Despite whether a teacher can or can’t teach there is respect and away to address a problem. There are rules that Govern both teachers and students.

Tiny you making some valid points. It is true that we have a problem with the teaching of maths in our secondary schools. That I can agree with.

But you seem (by your lack of condemnation of the students who have attached their teachers) to be siding with such action.

Now come on, I am sure you can find no good reason for a student to attack his teacher so violently: Not bad maths teaching, not disrespectful teachers.

So you need to condemn this behaviour outright in the first place. Wrong is wrong.

Now I hope that some education official will deal with your points about bad maths teachers and disrespectful teachers.
