Antigua launches investigation into prisoner escape

Antigua’s Minister of National Security, Dr. Errol Cort, has ordered a full investigation into two incidents in which persons of interest in the October 2012 murder of two Dominicans escaped the custody of police officers of Montserrat and Antigua.

In a press statement on Sunday, December 30, Cort expressed “grave concern at the circumstances surrounding both incidents” and noted that he has been in constant contact with the police, who have been, and continue to provide updates on the situation.

According to reports, the two men were being transported from Montserrat to Antigua on December 23, when upon arrival at the VC Bird International Airport, one them overpowered two officers from Montserrat, grabbed his belongings and made good his escape. Antigua police identified him as Kenroy Mashall. This was the second time Marshall had managed to evade Antigua police.

The other man was taken from the airport to the St. John’s Police Station. However, he managed to escape after he asked to visit the bathroom. He has been identified as Kergus Martin.

The two men remain at large.

In the release, Cort said he wishes to assure the public that everything is being done to recapture the two men and said he will be meeting with the hierarchy of the police force on Wednesday morning to look at ways to improve strategy to prevent and solve gun-related crimes in Antigua.

The bodies of Alix Riviere and Alwin Robin were found on October 4 in an area called Cedar Valley. Both men were shot execution style.

Riviere was found with his hands bound and he was severely beaten while Robin was found nearby.

Law enforcement said they found 35 kilos of packaged cocaine in the house, which is reportedly worth some $1.4-million, but no connections has been made between the drugs and the murder.

Two Antigua ex-policemen have been charged in connection with the drug find.

This is wrong on SO many levels!!! Who would have time to take his belongings and run after “overpowering” the 2 officers? And in an airport?! Are these people serious? Such a heinous crime was committed and these lying police officers could not brought in 2 suspects? What those Antiguan official think? We are not stupid!!! Please investigate those good for nothing police officers. It seems that they are waist deep in this crime. Don’t worry time will tell. Let them run but sooner or later they will stop. Justice will be served and the family of these two men will get peace. R.I.P ALWIN and ALIX. Gone but not forgotten

And I quote: ” when upon arrival at the VC Bird International Airport, one them overpowered two officers from Montserrat, grabbed his belongings and made good his escape. Antigua police identified him as Kenroy Mashall. This was the second time Marshall had managed to evade Antigua police.”

This is suspicious on so many levels. For one this guy happened to overpower not one but TWO officers of the law. Then he proceeded to retrieve his belongings before making good on his escape. This with them having knowledge that this guy had escaped before. Something stinks and it’s not my mouth.

The minister of national security should have call for a inquiry immediately. why these two men escaped police custody in an international airport. The offices in questions should be fired.

THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN NOWHERE IN THE WORLD IN AN AIRPORT WHERE POLICE OFFICERS HAVE SUSPECTS in CUSTODY.
THE CARIBBEAN caribbean need to come better than that.

Even Sherlock Holmes would have been impressed with the escape! In true Holmesian style Dr. Cort and his associates should eliminate all the impossibilities and whatever remains, however improbable, may be the truth. However they should also bear in mind the advice of Mark Twain that “truth is stranger than fiction…”

    December 31, 2012

Why are the police officers continuing to allow these men to flee? This was no coincidence, we can conclude that these men are gone for good with no proof that they were allowed to escape. All is left to do is just fire these police men.

    December 31, 2012

This is such a farce! Escaping police custody at the airport? Right – for those of us who have travelled through the airport in Antigua, it is virtually impossible for this to occur without some assistance – in fact, a lot of assistance!
