You people blame the current government for everything, namely the PM. Do you know you are unfair? It is time to stop it.
I reside in Toronto. In recent years, especially this past year, hardly a day/night without shooting and stabbing.. Some of the victims are young people. Last night, an 18 year old was stabbed. He was a visitor to an area out of Toronto. He got into an argument/fight and was killed. How sad.
There are also bank robberies and others. I do not hear one person nor the Media blame the government. These nationals are broad-minded to know it is not the government’s fault.
We have a Police Force and they are doing their utmost to keep Toronto/Ontario safe and of course the other Police Forces in other parts of Canada.
This bothers us. We have reason to be concerned and ask ourselves what has happened to Toronto the Good. I attribute them to godless, wicked people and idle ones. Satan finds some mischief for idle hands to do.

      • June 18, 2016

Ask yourself one question why some areas are more prone to violence? Why the Government dictates the type of houses or trailer and manipulates the economic situation through taxes and interest rates? It’s simple: to separate society into Class based on wealth. When the lower class gets tired of being disenfranchised they begin to “take” because that’s the only way out they can imagine. Employment or lack there of is a direct responsibility of the Government which in turn will enable citizens to provide for their families and not have to resort to selling drugs or stealing. Yes The sitting PM have a load to carry because the only way to put it down is to pave a better road for Dominicans so they can travel with you and help carry the load.

We have the internet, we have cable TV…plenty of heist movies to get ideas from.
Those things wouldnt work in America? but here? oh yea.
Law officials need to start getting smarter, increase salary for police and stop taking all man jack who going to be a police just for a salary. They were good to chase a man that steal a fig, but not for this new breed. Get proper officers that graduate some college or something.
I see boys I went to school with that couldnt pass a test and was working by astaphans suddenly police officers?(not bad talking them) Just saying they don’t have the passion or zeal for it it’s just for a little salary. So if 3 “smart” dudes put their head together to pull off a heist…how they catching them?
Long story short, increase the police salary to attract skilled/intelligent individuals not just people looking for salary.

Well If Dominican believe the government they have elected to protect and provide for them is doing an amazing job then I will have to explain it simple to my family members at home who continue to vote these people incompetent government to go ask them for money and other desires.
Though the government might not say to these criminals go check commit crimes and other negative actions but the fact the country is lawless it encourages crimes in the land therefore the government is responsible.

  9. May 22, 2016

Why are so many people saying it’s an inside job and that they knew to come when the shop opens? The shop has it’s open and close times written on the front door – all that that proves is that the thieves can read ;-)

Yeah, go on say it and Mr PM…

Such a crime and the ever increasing wave crimes on Island are all planned by the opposition UWP Party. Put your propagandist action in play and say it. It’s heating home now and soon such crimes will have no boundary.

This is what happens in a society when the so called leader (One Man) consciously sets off to disenfranchise it’s people.

  12. May 21, 2016

But if crime is increasing then should the police chief be fired? O no because he is protecting his man Skerrit. and that is number 1 on his job description…….. we are going or have gone to hell in hand basket.

I would like to know why you blame the police, It look like the police must do everything, take blame for everything, even for not having enough police while everybody else go blameless.

Please check the statistics with other countries population and the force population then check Dominica and the ask the DLP how many positions they have not filled and ask if they will be filled this year.

eg: St.kitts- approx 50,000 check no of Police and check number of soldiers then check unfilled positions and let us talk.

There are some lawyers who are patiently awaiting for these scumbags to get caught, only to hustle the police in releasing their clients, when the police are in the heat of their investigation then they will be smiling walking to the bank, as we all know that these lawyers are getting richer when ever the police are investigating any case of robbery.

We have 4000/600 police officers on the island? When do we see active policing in Roseau?
Police motorcycles and transport provided by our friends, when do we see any a physical presence?
The Police Department needs a total overhaul from top to bottom or are they just Skerrits under ground army?

    • Dominican
      May 22, 2016

The police were provided with 90 motorcycles by our Chinese friends. Where are they? Do you ever see any patrols? And when you call them they say they have no transport. I don’t understand this at all.

  18. Face the Facts
    May 21, 2016

I hope they are caught. If they are, since they robbed with masks and guns, they should be denied bail. Some years of imprisonment should be their lot.
Fellow Dominicans, I hope none are foolish to purchase jewelry from anyone who approaches you to buy them. If they do, say NO and inform Crime Stoppers.
Police, are you aware when they steal jewelry they could try to escape from D/ca with it to sell in another country as a neighboring one? I hope you are patrolling D/can waters.
This is another area they use boats to leave and enter D/ca and also transport guns and drugs to D/ca.
The police really need to be diligent at their jobs. You cannot afford to be lax and waste time. The criminals are increasing and are bolder today.
Fervent prayers to God are necessary to decrease these criminal activities in D/ca; no exception elsewhere in the world. Today, the world has more criminals of every sort, more wicked than previously.
    Lord, please help Dominica!

  19. As I see it
    May 21, 2016

I agree with those that say crime is growing everywhere. No matter where we see a rise in crime there are always two contributing factors: 1. Development – more people, more business, place gets busier etc. We all agree that such is not the case in Dominica.

    2. Poverty-Unemployment, hopelessness, situation is worsening etc. We all know and agree that’s exactly where Dominica is, has been for the last 12 years, and will be for some time as long as Skerrit remains in power

    • Face the Facts
      May 21, 2016

When you make such comments you say to God, they are correct. You have committed the sin of encouragement and more. Only senseless people make such comments.
Does the government not give some money to the unemployed? It is something D/cans who were unemployed and in need of did not receive with former governments. D/ca had few crimes then and not these types on such a scale.
Today, these people have become godless, greedy and wicked. They want quick money and a lot of it. They are too lazy to work. It has absolutely nothing to do with unemployment.
Did you ask them the reason why they steal and with masks and guns? You should ask them. No matter how much they steal, they are never satisfied.
There are D/cans who are unemployed who will never consider stealing. This type of lifestyle has their people – criminals. There is no excuse.
If you were able to see God you should ask him. He is not pleased with what some of you state and also blame the PM.

Where were the police officers? They should have been present before 9:00 am. Staff must be on the job prior to its opening, to commence work on time.
Their license number is recorded. They may remove it. If a vehicle is seen without a license number, it should be cause for suspicion.
You thieves and masked ones with guns what you have done is not funny. You do know it is a serious offense to steal people’s possessions. You can hide your faces but God has seen you. Guess where your name is written? In the Book of Damnation.
What you did is a grievous/mortal sin, an offense to God for Thou Shalt Not Steal. Worst enough, masked and with guns. You deny yourselves God’s blessing. You have placed a curse on you, the devil’s curse and now at par with the devil, your colleague in wickedness and sinfulness. You have heaped eternal burning coals on your heads. Should you not be concerned and scared that you will not escape God’s wrath?

Isnt it public knowledge that they open at 9, most businesses have that information on their doors? In my humble opinion that would obviously be a slow time of business for day. No one really flocks to columbian emeralds to buy jewelry at 9am, i would expect the place to only have employees; plus traffic may be lighter especially if you are heading south, or even just going up the goodwill back road through gardens. Easy escape. i mean come on people it could be an inside job but to me that doesnt seem like such a hard one to plan and execute if you have been monitoring their movements for a while. One guard, maybe 4-5 employees. smash and grab in less than 10 minutes you are out, driver waiting with the ride pointed in the right direction. you all dont watch movies?

Put laws to suit the crime..stealing with a gun is not desperation but a crime of high level,if the thief is armed with bullets in his gun sooner or later he will kill,if the victim is not from a well known family his death will remain unpunished or a light sentence will be given for sure, because his financial situation could not help to give him a fair justice.Business men should own guns and thieves should be served with bullets. No one will ever think of stealing in Dubai because their laws serves to curb at the highest level of criminality..Marijuana should never be a priority ,because any one can grow a plant in a pot or in their own garden. It is a shame that a country doors remained open cannot remain locked now..Police have priority ;wake up,prepare breakfast, start thinking about lunch, then dinner, play domino, get a mistress in the village where they work and quick to intimidate people ..Is it in this condition the gov’t is prepared to welcome investors in Dominica?

KID ON THE BLOCK, are you getting paid for the rubbish that comes from your mouth. Dominica belongs to all of us, why cant you open your eyes and brain to the real problems affecting this country. Why cant you take some gingko biloba to open your brains and allow yourself to fully grasp what is happening to our beloved country is directly the result of an inept (chk a dictionary), lazy, greedy, void of ideas and vision, deceitful, selfish and wicked government. Do a little reading my brother. Its better to be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Bro, then we should admit that increase of crime goes with development? sorry i refuse that, i refuse to see that in my country. increase of crime is a result of bad politics. people have to face their responsibilities no one have said that .t’s the Pm who robbed the place, come on !! but…what he have done to protect people who elected him, whoever they are, business man or you , me , your kids. talk to me about our justice system? did you ever had a case ? how was it? the crime increase, in many different ways, the social climate is terrible, business people are crying, or closing down !!!!! some actions must be taken !!! right now my brother, i don’t care who will put thses things in place , red , blue, green, purlple, pink, that s not the point no more. things must change, and fast ! i want my country back in peace !! Respect !!!

Is robbery the only thing that takes place all over the world? What about the good things like accountability to the people, jobs, good health care and free and fair elections? What about people being able to express their opinions without fear of intimidation? Those are the things that matter, so stop being a j::::::::: @.

I refuse to hear that the comment is rubish..We live in a country where the PM himself is telling his fools, zealots, minions, acolytes to go and provoke members of the opposition. The PM said he knew who set the fire to the Communication Tower at Melvillehall in 2014.The police never dragged him in for questioning.Dominica is a sick and failed state.
