Kurt “Shabba” James is no stranger to the courts in Dominica and his name continues to ring in the system with a warrant out for his arrest.
James was “self bail” issued by a Roseau Magistrate and was due to appear in the just ended Criminal Sessions of the High Court on charges of alleged sexual matters but he was a no-show.
According to State Prosecutors attached to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), James’ matter was to have been tried but he sent a “medical certificate” to the court and so it was pushed back.
When the new date for the matter to be tried arrive, he failed to answer when his name was called.
In the circumstances, the prosecution applied for and obtained a Bench Warrant from Justice Errol Thomas for his arrest.
“My Lord we have been searching for him, the Task Force in Dominica are on the look out for him but we have not been able to apprehend him,” State prosecutor Sherma Dyrample told the court.
Justice Thomas then inquired from her if James was on island and she was not able to give the court that information.
“Shabba,” as he is called by many, has been convicted of rape and has served time in jail for the crime.
Persons with information on his whereabouts are asked to contact the nearest police station.
Meantime a number of persons had their matters adjourned to the September Criminal Session of the High Court.
Among them are Herbert Xavier, Loretta and Manuella Williams of Soufriere who are facing a retrial for the murder of their brother, Harrison Williams.
Donald Massicot will also be sentenced for Manslaughter in the next session.
Kenroy Paul, who is convicted for illegal drug offenses, will also be sentenced.

Well every weekend for the past month or so shabba has been seen in Grand bay lurking.
You will not believe if i tell you that there are person in the legal system and in the law enforcement who helps Kurt Shabba James concoct and connive episodes to help beat the system. Shabba has manipulating the system for many years now. and while petty criminals struggle to get bail this man gets self bail on lame excuses.
Are person with our judicial system afraid of this man?. I know for a fact that there are women he conned and had sex with and after he fail to make good his promise and that they discovered it was the notorious shabba they reported the matter as rape.. Police officers themselves had sex with the very same females pledging to take serious care of shabba and put him where he belongs.
It is a shame that greed and self gratification comes before pride and duty. Well i have person instructed shabba that if i meet him in my neighborhood or at my residence it will be a different story..
can you imagine a magistrate giving Kurt “shabba” James self bail. this is so ridiculous and I’m really not sure and is frustrated at the system here in my country. It’s frightening. what’s wrong with our magistrates and Judges. if he was bailed with a proper surety then someone would have to give an account of him. ALAS

If this is not his first crime and he is known to the police and the D/ca Court System, why was he allowed bail and on his own recognizance? This is real slackness on the part of this System. Furthermore, his attorney must have pleaded to allow him out on bail.
He may have left the country, probably not by legal means. He should know he will never be a happy and peaceful man. He will always be looking over his shoulders and left, right, front and back. Man, for your own good, turn yourself in and get your case over and done with.
He is a wanted man by the D/can authorities. If someone is harboring him in D/ca, I hope the authorities made it well-known that whoever is hiding him is aiding and abetting him and they too will be prosecuted.
I hope the Guadeloupe, Martinique, Antigua and St. Lucia including other islands are alerted about him. Have his picture posted everywhere possible. Wherever he goes, nationals are at risk especially the women.

I think he is being sported in the Penville /Vielle case area. while in D/A about two weeks ago i was warned to be very careful in the Penville area cause this is one of the areas he is often seen. he was even described to me as having a long horizontal scare on his face. who in their right mind would allow a person with a track record such as his to be out on self bail?
This is a serious matter. He should never have been granted bail.
Men who rape even more than once, after raping the women (could be a child), consider what the end result of this could be? You guess what.
I can’t believe this is the same Shabba that I grew up with. Sometimes you just have to hang your head when someone you thought you knew turned out like that. I’m at a lost for words with Shabba. I just don’t know what went wrong with him. “Rape” does not sit well with me at all.

This is pure nonsense. Is about time they register Shabba as rapist. Now women have to be extra careful out with this monster on the loose. And next time they arrest Shabba put him away for good and keep Dominica safe.

1. Why give him bail in the first place. They should have placed him on remand till his case call.
2. Next time he is sentenced, give him the maximum sentences. (Wish there were some 75 to 100 year sentences for repeat rapists)

Oh Lord have mercy, that bail is a passport to freedom. Why can’t we process prosecutions in a decent time, with a proper verdict like they do in more developed countries? Why, oh why? Dominica has only 70,000 people you know.
its the same process in developed countries. Even the young white boy who kill all those black people in the church got bail. Its your right to be granted bail, unless your crime is extremely grievous, you are a flight risk etc.
You are correct. No exception in those progressive countries. This is why crimes/rapes/murders will escalate. The deterrent is to keep those types of criminals incarcerated for life.
People are fed-up with those worldwide Court Systems. Those authorities will be answerable to God for also placing the life of their nationals at risk. They will not consider that. They better for their very own immortal souls.
