Three persons have been charged for the murder of Harrison Williams aka 17 Sweat.
Herbert Xavier, Manuela Williams and Loretta Xavier are accused of beating their 40-year-old brother to death at about 9 pm on Friday in Soufriere, in the presence of the deceased’s wife and children.
The trio appeared in Magistrate’s Court this morning, where the charge was read to them. The trio was not required to plea because the charge is indictable. They were remanded in custody.
Meanwhile, the prosecution had up until 4 p.m. today to present the copy of notes that the investigating officer recorded in his pocket book during a previous interview with Manuela Williams.
This decision was taken due to an application from defence lawyer Levi Peters, who stated that his client had not been told the basis on which she was charged, unlike the two other defendants who had received copies of their statements to the police.
He told the court that it was disrespectful to the court and outside the realms of fair play for one to be charged without being privy to this information.
“The accused has steadfastly denied any involvement in the incident,” Peters stated.
The prosecution noted that Williams had not yet given a statement to police.
Magistrate Candia George, who presided over the matter, set the preliminary inquiry for February 18, 2011 with disclosure date being December 31, 2010.
Friends and family gathered inside and outside of the courtroom to get a glimpse of the accused trio as they got shipped off to the Dominica State Prison where they will be remanded.
“Be strong for me,” Loretta told her daughter who was sitting in the court gallery before exiting the courtroom.
“The one dat die that is the guilty one!” one onlooker shouted.
“Alas, the woman daughter crying,” another one said.
The two female defendants smiled and waved to family members and friends outside the courtroom before entering the prison bus.
Hubert Xavier however, showed no expression as he walked handcuffed with another male prisoner into the prison bus.
Dawn Yearwood-Stewart also represented the defendants.
I havent been to Dominica in over 19yrs but it is a shame what is going on their. There is way to much hatred going on.. Although I would want to say hang them, I cant.. I leave them in the hands of God to give the Judgement they all deserve… I ask that God protect and heal the members of the family affected… I feel real hurt because a wife lost her husband and children lost their father… What I realiize everyone is trying to make all of this about them when its about a man who lost his life sensessly and his wife and children who have to live without him….

If you already knew what Watcher and I were communicating, as you claimed, saying: “all of us read the Bible”, you would know that the millions whom you declared not to believe in Jesus and the Bible, are in no better shape of mind than the three people who are charged with committing that vicious murder. The truth is that sin does exists in the human mind, and the worst sin of people mind is their lack of faith in God, and their hatred towards Him, because of their love for Satan.
For your information, those people who committed that murder are in a better position to receive God’s forgiveness, as their conscience could convict them of their sin, forcing them to turn to God for His mercy and compassion. The God of Love, in Jesus Christ, will forgive anyone, who will humble his/her self and to ask for His forgiveness, regardless of the nature of their sin. That is the reason for the suffering, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.

We hear, at least I do, of accidents all the time taking the life of your young people. Do you think these losers care? Not one bit. They could care less. Any other country would step up and impliment measure what would reduce the risk for such an accelerated rate of vehicle deaths. What have these losers done? Not a darn thing!
Have they implimented public education? Speed bumps? Speed limit for certain zones? DO they have officers out at night tracking down on speeders and drunk drivers? Yeah Right? I highly doubt it.
Dominica needs change. It seems like yesterday when we engaged in a discussion on Home Building. He was proud to show me his work and I just sat there agasp and not able to believe my eyes at the images before me. I thought I had seen it all but obviously not. Soufriere grown – a Senior Project Manager in the construction industry of 27 years, working for the likes of Bovis Lend Lease, Benoy – among others, managing construction projects worldwide, including retail developments and airport terminals, I learnt a thing or two.
Villagers in my beloved village despise those who work hard and strive for pastures new. Certainly, envy is the worst sin there is. For truly, all other sins are sometime against only one special virtue; but truly, envy is against all virtues and against all goodnesses.
17 Sweat succumb to the hands of evil – his family, so let’s hope this calamity acts as a prompt, which cleanse the village of evil – those who are idle/workshy, doing nothing to help themselves other than spread their cancerous diseases of destruction.

I suggest Capital Punishment. I am strongly convince that Dominica need to introduce capital punishment. A few days ago, I wrote that law enforcement in Dominica is not what it used to be. Someone wrote that the victim was killed not far from the police station, so where where the officers? Law enforcement in all its farcements has failed and is failing the citizens of Dominica. Where were the police officers that night?
When I was younger, police officers were always on the beat, patrolling the streets, walking around the neighbourhoods. Today, they are too lazy to leave the police station and love to say that they have no vehicles. The police department needs to reevaluate itself and seriously ponder whether it is doing eveything in its power to safe guard the lives of Dominican citizens.
The magistrates and judges need to begin sentencing to the maximum extent of the law. I sincerely hope that this case does not end up like the King’s Hill case.
The guy who got chopped to death was throwing stones at the one with the cutlas. The one with the cutlas after having chopped the stone throwing guy to pieces pleaded self defense. He said he feared for his life. He actually got off on the self defense plea. Good grief! I’m not a lawyer, but who is more dangerous, a man wielding a cutlass or a man throwing stones? Let’ s get serious. Some of these magistrates and judges need to be fired. I’ve sat in on some of these cases.
Lastly, the onus is now weighing heavily upon our government to take immediate action. Eight Murders in a few days on little Dominica. Parliament should convene with all urgency and decide what should be done to curb this madness. Eight murders in a few days? THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE!

JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED. 17 did not deserve that kind of death by the hands of his own family whom he fed and provided for in any way possible. Despite the feud that was going on between them 17 was always willing to assist them with their needs and he would always talk about wanting togetherness for his family and how much he loved his family. Family meant everything to him and he was indeed a family man. Now there is so much pain and sorrow for that family on both sides, many lives are being destroyed especially all the children involved due to that senseless, deceitful and hateful act.

Now – Now – Now, Dominica we need a deterrent to this madness!
Dominica – I not a religious zealots, but we have to censor some of those American TV shows that promote and glorify violence, and all those gangsta Rap and Reggae songs that promote the same, to be play on national airwaves.
Our Island is too small for these big city issues.
@Lizavier4Jesus: Yes I think that you should continue to educate the persons who read DNO even if you have to be a little more brief.
I was reading the bible this morning and I would encourage every DNO reader reading this right now to read Mathew 12. This is the account where Jesus himself was speaking to the Pharisee and the other multitude of persons. Pray for wisdom before reading. Verse 36 clearly states ” But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account therof in the day of Judgement and 37 continues For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned”
People let us not heed the words of the Heavenly Father thru his son who was sent to die fo rus.
It is indeed very sad for what has happened to Harrison – a young man who employed ove 20 young persons in the community; These persons would probably be unemployed. He taught them to work from his talent which the Father had given to him to be shared. We are all indeed sad at the turn of events. But probably because I personally know these children ; I saw then grow up under whatever conditions; It is also heartbreaking for me regarding the sisters and the others who alegedly beat him and he died as a result. I know that they are also in turmoil. I am sure that they are asking questions right now… I should probably have done things differently.. Although it is too late .. Harrison is gone. But as I have said in many of my articles.. If you Love our Heavenly Father then it becomes easy to love other since he is love himself.. He sent his son to die for our sins .. What more beautiful and great love can this be. I cannot but help to think of them as well. Yes this was a very brutal thing to do. But who made me Judge and Jury. The only Judge is the Heavenly Father. He is the only one who will have mercy upon who he will have mercy. We cannot dictate to him.. Read the book of Jonah.. Short but a lesson in there to learn. We all have a wicked heart but it is only when we surrender to Our Father that he cleanses us and takes away our stony heart and replaces it with a heart of love
People please think of the Father this is not easy for him at all.. Think of the other Siblings … This is not easy for them either. Henderson and the others. Let us pray for the Families and all those who are affected by this terrible ordeal. Let us ask for his wisdom and foresight so we can do something to assist and prevent incidents of this from happenning in the future. Sometimes we see things and we can help but we prefer to turn a blind eyes and only speak negative on forums like this.
May the Blessings of the most High be with you all DNO Readers.. Let us think before we make comments… A lot of persons are hurting. Let us say things to lift them up and not make them feel worse of than they are.

with the rate at which muderers are being freed in Dominica, it is no surprise that people no longer have any regard for the law…somebody touch you, you stab him…somebody make you vex, you shoot him. Witnesses or no witnesses…day or night… Persons just have no respect for each other any more.
This is what happens when we turn our backs on God. When most persons can’t even bother to spend 2 hours a week in worship on a Sunday morning, when the Lord has blessed us with168 hours of a healthy happy life every week,,,when parents go to mass and allow their kids to stay home to sleep (When i was younger, my mother only allowed us to stay home on a Sunday if we were very sick)….when sinful living is accepted as a normal way of life (divorce, abortion, etc)
Its time for us to reflect and let a change begin with ME – “the man in the mirror” (as MJ put it)
i am very saddened by the trend of murders taking place in our sweet Dominica…. where have all the fist fights gone to? burst each others nose; give a black/blue eyes; a burst lip; why the guns, knives, 2×4’s etc. too many murders; just too many!
this makes me feel like there is no such thing as “family”, it’s just people who happen to share DNA. i see a name on that list and i pray to God that this is not who i am thinking of. i pray that those affected by this will be comforted by God’s grace. No one else is able to soothe our hearts.

About freakin time they got arrested. If they could do that to their own much less somebody that not related. I cannot understand how you can beat somebody to death, you upset you give the person a punch in their face, but you gave the man a blow (and the kind of blow again) he fell, you still beating him. Fighting for material things, they going to die and it still going to be around. If it was my husband everybody getting a bullet. I cannot wait to see how that case going to turn out.

Why so much killing in Dominica, don’t they have a heart if they can’t get their way they just kill? They need to fixed the court system and give these people a good punishment.
