A “suspicious package” was found outside the building that houses the Electoral Office on Jewel Street and Turkey Lane in Roseau on Tuesday afternoon.
DNO understands that police are in the area and streets have been blocked.
The building is located behind the State House and it also houses the IPO Office.
On Tuesday morning, a suspicious package was found in the vicinity of the Government Headquarters prompting police to evacuate the building.
The package turned out to be harmless, based on initial investigations and was made of stone and sand.
DNO is following this latest development and will publish further information as it becomes available.

That person find they wanted another holiday after they holiday so they do for the ministry to be evacuated. I would have liked another day off too but that is pure rubbish. I would like to know who are the people who are declaring these items to be suspicious in nature? It is the police of some passer-by ? That way we have a better idea as to the source/s of this packages.
We have seen this fire stuff before and we all know who the fingers pointed to!
These are historical events in the Commonwealth of Dominica. Never before have we experienced bomb threats on this Island. Whether or not it is later determined that these devices are harmless, the simple fact that they were placed at these strategical locations is an indication that the political division in this Country has escalated to new heights. I still hold my initial suspicions that this might very well be a strategical move by the very people who will undoubtedly be crying foul and pointing fingers as a means to distract and deflect attention from burning issues that is currently plaguing the Country. With that said, however, I do fear that this incident could be the precursor to far more sinister things to come. Let us all pray that there won’t be a next time and that if there is it won’t cost the lives of innocent Citizens. Any incident like this must be considered an act of desperation and desperate people can be quite dangerous!

Strangely enough, all these distractions took place just before an election, dating back to 2009, and after the election everything dies out. Since Skerrit has always won, why is he not pushing for an investigation and arrest? Take for example the fire bombing of the house of GON Emmanuel, just around election time. Let’s not forget the then Minister for security, who somehow is the President of Dominica, was on Karie radio, along with his friends, calling names of the culprit {s). They won the election and yet no true arrest? Then we had the fire at the airport just before the 2014 election. This time it was Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit that said he knew who did it. Well Skerrit won the elections, why not arrest the culprit since he said he knew who it was? This time suspicious packages on two government offices, just before a by-election? I wonder if Skerrit, Savarin, or Tony knows who, since those suspicious packages are right in their eyes, unlike the airport that was far
