The police in the British Virgin Islands have formally charged Alcedo Tyson in the shooting death of Dominican Kwanna Todd-Rhyner.

Tyson, 23,  was charged with murder on Saturday morning, according to a release from the BVI police.

He is expected to appear in court on Monday, March 19, 2012.

Investigations into the killing continue and according to the police release Detective Inspector Niven of the Major Crime Team said: “The response from the public has been good and for that we are very grateful. However, there were a lot of people who were at the scene that night who have yet to come forward.”

The police said they would also like to speak to patrons of Deuces Night Club who were at the club that night and any other person who has information to assist the investigation.

Rhymer, originally from Grand Fond, was shot and killed during an alleged altercation with Tyson in the parking lot of the Deuces night club in Baugher’s Bay at about 4 am on March 16, 2012.

She had been living in the BVI for a number of years.

It even seems they have a child together

Girls find men your type,by their fruits you shall know them! Then BVI men their aggresive.

Be realistic. Have you ever been in love and probably with the wrong person and that you made a mistake? Everyone makes mistakes and I am certain that you are no exception. When people are in love, it is difficult to end a relationship in a wink of an eye and at the first argument. You should know that when man meets woman and vice versa, they are the best of people, on their best behavior and project their best mannerisms. When they grow accustomed to each other, taking each other for granted, or getting tired of each other, this is when they commence having problems. Then they find out that the person who showed such love and interest and no longer projects it and is not the person whom they loved from the beginning of the relationship and who was in love then. If you have not yet learned that and also are not aware of it, learn it although I think that you project hypocrisy.

Dawwould sweetie… you male chauvinistic pig ……it’s not like the women killed the guy by putting grinned up glass
    in his meal….

it was fight and she defended herself ….you see the difference now honey….

no physical abuse is no reason to kill someone…and i do not believe she intended to kill him….she wanted to scare/hurt him…she wanted him to stop him from beating the crap our of her…. so she reacted

he obviously wasn’t intimidated by the knife ….or else he would have left when she got it….he probably kept coming at her with the knife in her hand so she was forced to strike…

lets bet that is what happened

Life is precious. We should treasure it, respect our lives, that of others and accord them their right to life, what we expect of them and want for ourselves.
It is so sad that young lives are lost through those types of incidents and others. No one deserves to die in such a manner and/or at the hands of others.
I visualize what her family members are going through. This is not an easy matter for them to bear. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to them. May God comfort them.
I pray and hope that God had mercy on her soul. May she rest in peace. Amen!

  19. March 18, 2012

oh my… smh… i went on this dude f.b page… i looked through his pix… i saw a photo of the victim and her daughter… someone put a comment… to the essence… ‘that girl looking like her mother bad.. cute!!!” the guy’s response was… “When!!!!! She aim look nothing like her mother u ain lookin good man she look like me”

these type of men women needs to keep away from… i always say… don’t wait for someone to jagg u… to know they aint your friend… the little signs speaks louder… when someone ignores you or try to avoid your company… these are little signs that this person don’t want to be around or with you… whenever someone always has an old joke or quazz to throw on you… becareful.. he/she may be secretly ‘hating’ or grudging you..
all these are little signs we take for granted and try to ignore or laugh them off… these are not wisdom you can learn in school but only through life experiences… this guy is a jealous being… and it must have been jealousy, regret and hate that drove him to committing this crime…

    • Justice and Truth
      March 18, 2012

      @ mouth of the south

You have made some excellent points which I agree with. The problem is that some people will ignore them because they want the person – to be their lover – this is why they murder. They consider that if I cannot have you no one else will. It happens with both sexes – male and female.
There I go again. :) The only thing that could have helped him is prayers but then again, he did not give God a thought and turned to him in prayer and ask for His assistance. He allowed his emotions and bad tempter to get the better of him. Now, he has taken a life and has forfeited his freedom and may spend the rest of his God-given precious life in prison. How sad.
People never know in what situation they will find themselves in. This is why according to the saying, we should always keep in mind and say: “There but for the grace of God go I.”
His family must also be shocked at what he has done.

    young;

like so many brothers, why do you think that a woman is an object for manipulation(lies, abuse, control)? why do you think that a woman is an object that is so easily disposable to a point where it is okay to rape, cheat, and kill?

this is a strange mystery that is very destructive to the core of humanity.

To the nake eye, this mistake is unforgivable.

Once a foreigner kills a Dominican woman anywhere in the world, every right thinking Dominican must act as an equalizer. This is how Israel operates and they are God chosen people. We also must put patriotic meaning to the words of our national anthem: All for each and each for all.

I am Dominica, are you? Then save our Dominican women – naturally beautiful with little need for makeup and extensions.

    • FED UP DOMINICAN
      March 18, 2012

‘Once a foreigner kills a Dominican woman anywhere in the world, every right thinking Dominican must act as an equalizer’ ‘All for each and each for all’

So in order to prove how patriotic we really are, when a Dominican woman is killed abroad, we must start killing a national from that foreign place, and we will be justified.

WOW (and double WOW). Your patriotism is way beyond me. Seeing as I dont agree with you, I guess I’m not as patriotic as I thought.

man i do not give a damm about sexism, when a man pull a gun on a woman he is weak and a freak of nature, man was created to represent strength and god head,we got man in dominican society just beating on women,it is because they know that they are men,and should command respect, because women was created of mans rib,not be advantaged, but to be protected, but they not representing men, they are zaman,so when a woman stab them kind a man there,i am not surprised,be it self defence or are agressive, punish these suckers in the worst of way.

    • Dawoud D

Where did you get this saying that men are physically violent 95% of the time? I advise you to read up on the subject http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_abuse

Secondly, the statistics mainly deals with REPORTED cases. Many times men do not report the cases of domestic abuse done against them.

What do you know about the Middle East? Please stop listening to western propaganda and do a little research. Thanks.

  32. Dawoud D
    March 17, 2012

This is the double standard and hypocrisy I hate very strongly in the Dominican society.

This morning a woman killed a man in Kalinago Territory this morning. Many on face book and even on D.N.O hold the view that it was self defense. Not one of them was an eye witness to the incident; yet they yelled “self defense!” Yet when a man commits the crime they yell “hang him!”

Not one on D.N.O said “hang the woman!” Yes both of these killings were wrong and condemned but we must be just, remove this sexism that has a high stench in the Dominican society.

      March 18, 2012

Your comment, though controversial is partially correct. Whenever force is used as ” self-defense” it MUST BE JUST THE RIGHT FORCE / EQUAL TO THAT of the perpetrator to deter him/her from hurting you. Allegedly in the case of the shooting in the BVI the Dominican girl was unarmed! Hence the outcry..

In the case of the woman stabbing the man if he was unarmed then your statement is justified. But if he was abusive then maybe she was.

    • Sout Man
      March 18, 2012

No one detests hypocrisy more than Jesus, the only man who walked on earth with the authority to judge sinners like us. But we do have opinions. Your comment is the 6th, to date, (others pending moderation while DNO takes a weekend break, I guess), yet you generalize and expressed your strong hatred for hypocrisy in Dominican society. Only one comment, to date, said that he should be hanged. Your “hatred” is obvious. You do not have to mask behind “hypocrisy” which is widespread among sinners.

      • Dawoud D
        March 18, 2012

The hypocrisy in the Dominican society I mentioned was not generalized according to the context here. If you read I made the statement then elaborated as to what is it I strongly hate and it is okay to express love as well as hatred for something. Secondly, this hatred is not towards Dominicans but to particular sentiments I strongly disagree with (hate).

maybe somebody should start beating you constantly and then you would realize the rage one gets from being continuously beaten byt this person called your ‘lover’>> oh and btw.. that scenario is completely different from the one in BVI.
