Cameras could help police solve death of UK national in St. Lucia

Laborie police are investigating the death of a UK National whose body was found at the bottom of a cliff near her residence at Piaye on Sunday 25December 2011 at about 10am.

Preliminary reports indicated that 46-year-old Sarah Pickering Thomas had jumped to her death after a heated argument with her husband, Kevin Thomas. Neighbours told the STAR say the two had been arguing over a text message after returning home from J’ouvert that morning causing the husband to leave the house only to return to discover the lifeless body of his wife at the bottom of the cliff.

    @ Think About It

You think about it. Do not discriminate against all St. Lucian men. Men are men and men will be men. However, they are not one and the same. No different than men from other West Indian countries, the Caribbean or other countries. We cannot judge all of them by the supposedly action of one person. If it had occurred in DA, what would you say? Would you say that all Dominican men are the same and women should run from them? This would be unfair.
For one, they are not all from biological parents and identical socio-economic backgrounds.
It so happened that they met. She was a beautiful woman. She was looking for a husband, a stable one to settle down with. She had much to offer and financially so. She met him. He no doubt fell for her as a good catch, one who could provide financially for him. It appears that he did not have to work. He would be financially well-taken care of and with having maids in the home. He did not have to lift a finger. He had everything good going for him.
As far as loving her is concerned, he is the one who knows whether he loved her or not or loved her solely for her money. We will have to hear it from the horse’s mouth as the saying goes. It does sadden me what occurred to her.

Dominican men like St.Lucian,Caribbean men on a whole and even the women. One is never too sure whether they love really, especially when they meet someone in the position of this British lady.Just by the way they treat their own when they are in a relationship can say alot.I would advise anyone who intends to put themselves forward in entering a relationship with anyone of these guys should do a background check and if u ever happen to be in a good financial position, pretend u have nothing.I am a Dominican man and from what i see all they do is put women and children in misery.

man! and people are busy slamming this guy on newspaper blogs in the uk. not one of the papers covering this story has mentioned that the property was covered by cctv cameras. instead, they say she went out to pick herbs to cook, which were 10 yards from the edge of the cliff, and then she fell off. they add straight afterward that the husband was seen at the top of the cliff soon after, holding his head in his hands. boy, nothing like hearing the other side of the story. thanks st.lucia star, and my condolences to all the bereaved.

One thing we also have to consider is how much influence did Sarah have over her husband who, according to the first news article, was 10 years younger than her.

It is said that she was 46 years old, and he was 36–it is obvious in the photograph that she is that much older than him.

Now, not only that she is 10 years older than him, but she has wealth and material assets that he probably could never dream of having. How much control did Sarah have over her husband, and how comfortable was he with that sort of control, being the man?

She met him in New York, while she was on business–according to the first news article.

I am not trying to be harsh, but it does not take more than two or three glasses of wine for two people to discover human affection–which leads to the question. Was Love ever born between Sarah and Kevin?

I can imagine that Sarah popped the magic words to Kevin, not him to her–but how soon after that meeting in New York did that “yes I will” and that marriage happened between the two of them? What did they really know about each other? This knowing thing takes quite a while, I know that.

Kevin is a young black man. It is possible that he easily felt trapped with a woman, much older than him, with a toally different culture than his, if he did not love her when they got married.

I can imagine that what bonded him to her was her money, but did he have much access to that money, while she continued in Life–if he depended on her? Personally, as an adult I want to do what I want with the money I have without having to report to anyone–and this privilege I have had all my life, thanks to God.

And so, wanting his freedom to be with a woman his age and his culture, but also wanting more access to Sarah’s money, could be a desparate motive to get rid of her.

But O dear! I just wish for his sake, that he did not do it!

“A source inside the police department told the STAR that the deceased was seen on the phone walking around and then she attempted to sit at the edge of the cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea”.

If at the time this happened she was with another person, then that person might be able to provide some information. Did he/she hear her scream or said anything when she was falling? Someone heard/saw something. But to say whether he pushed her or not is not my call- I did not see anything.

At times like these you will hear all sorts of different stories and innuendos. A neighbor stated that she was picking herbs from the garden. I wonder who is that neighhbor and if she was correct?
Who to believe? God knows for sure what occurred to her, how she happened to fall over the cliff.
It boils down to one thing, the lady fell over the cliff and died. Consider her anguish and suffering, realizing that as she is rolling down the cliff (or being thrown) the end of her eminent life is nearing its end. She may have died when or after she landed below. Probably if she had got help at that time she could have been alive. This is what also saddens me. I would not wish this on anyone.
The other question, was she injured prior to her going down the cliff or being thrown down the cliff? This is something to consider.

Do you think so? Few believe that this is an accidental death. For the interim they stated that it was accidental. They did not hear the full story. They should check his cellular/blackberry phone and their landline phones. You never know what they will hear. My assumption is that the St. Lucian Police did this to give the husband the impression that the case is closed. This is where they may catch him in his rouse. In reality, such a case is never closed. They are privately and secretly conducting further investigation into her death.

Wicked souls must pay their dues fi wrong they do & cheat another of their lives..!! May she R.I.P –;–<–<@

        @ TeteMorneIfrom

Would you first check the cliff and below the cliff? I would check the rooms in the house and the yard and not the cliff/over it. Does this not make sense to you?
The man knew what happened to her and how it happened which is why he checked the cliff/ over it. He should have tried going down there to see if she was alive.
He should also first have telephoned the Police or the Fire Department, the latter which has a ladder, I hope, to go and check her out and bring her up.
After she went over the cliff, how long was she lying there?
Instead, he was crying and putting his hand over his head. This is no speculation.

The initial “DNO” story indicated that she was alledgedly picking fresh herbs from her backyard garden to cook and that her husband was pacing around with his face in his hand. Where did DNO get that story from if there has been such a dramatic change to the events leading to her death? This is a very tragic story and I hope someone would get the facts or at least close to it from credible sources prior to printing. This is not something to play with.

A woman of her caliber had so much to live for. Surely a good looking woman, there were other St. Lucian men who would have been happy to date her and even marry her.
She could have returned to her country and leave the man alone.
Deep down in my heart I do not think that she would have committed suicide by throwing herself down the cliff.
As it was reported, they were at the Christmas party having a good time. When they returned home there was an argument over a Text message. Then, this occurred to her. We have reasons to be suspicious.

She died in St. Lucia. The St. Lucian Police Force would not call Scotland Yard and not immediately. They would prefer to handle this situation and investigate.
I do agree with you that when a non-citizen is concerned the Police should immediately advise the government of that country through its Embassy who may call in Scotland Yard in this case. It would be interesting to know if the St. Lucia Police has such a protocol.
If this is not done, this is something which they should consider and establish in any island. You have made a good point.

DNO, if this is too long for a comment, please post it as a Commentary. In fact I would also like to get the “email” of the St. Lucia Police Force not its Website, so that I could forward this to them.

Fellow Dominicans, wherever you may reside, utilize your investigative common sense and power as given to you by God Himself. I am very concerned at what happened to this lady. Yes! It bothers me as one human being to another. Did she deserve to die in that manner?
Who knows fellow DA’s? You could assist the St. Lucia Police in this investigation and to solve this lady’s death, a death which appears to be suspicious.
God also uses us to assist in various ways as also doing our utmost to assist in investigating crimes of any nature. May we exercise our godly rights accordingly.
I do not buy this man’s fake expression of grief, putting his hands over his head. How many people who have murdered loved ones and have faked their grief? It has occurred several times as we have seen on TV and read in the newspapers. This is why many Dominicans, wherever they may reside including others, no doubt, St. Lucians and other West Indian nationals of all are suspicious about this lady’s death. Even though many of us do not know her or her husband, it bothers us immensely since we are all brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. Therefore, we have reasons to be concerned and take this to heart as we do other murders and other crimes. This is our right as God’s children/people and practicing ones at that who pay Him homage. God inspires. His Holy Spirit prods us on. Who knows, even the spirit of the departed as in the case of this nice lady who resided in St. Lucia and who met with such a fate. It is so sad that we should all be concerned how she was able to meet this fate. May God assist us and inspire us accordingly.
The actions of this husband sound like crocodile/hypocritical tears. It is my feeling there is more to this situation that a woman, a wife fell down a cliff on Christmas Day to her death. I hope that while she was falling, she asked God forgiveness for her sins. If she did, God has saved her soul.
Her death is suspicious. The St. Lucia Police should be aware of that. They cannot just state that it is an accident and this accident is done away with. I hope that they are more intelligent than that.
The wife is educated, a millionaire and has a lot of financial assets including a beautiful house in St. Lucia. What would a crooked husband not do to get his hands on such an asset for himself?
Last evening I was thinking of this incident and wondered, did he murder her. The thought came to mind, “Yes, My Child, he murdered her.” It may be that my mind is playing tricks with me and is pure speculation. Nevertheless, there is a possibility based under the circumstances that she was murdered, pushed to the precipice .
Now, this is a serious matter and a person is considered innocent until proven guilty. If he murdered her, her blood is surely crying to Heaven for vengeance.
If per chance there was some hanky-panky in causing her death he may not live to enjoy all her money and other assets. Mark my words. God rewards the good and punishes the wicked even in this life.
Her family should pursue this matter further. It is my feeling that they may be suspicious about her death but for the time being are remaining silent on the matter. Know that there will be a fight for her estate. They were only married 5 months. I do hope that they have frozen her assets in specifically Great Britain until a thorough investigation is conducted into her death. I hope they are smart enough to do so.
The saying, “See me, marry me and live with me is another story.”
My instinct informs me that the result of her death could have been due to a lover’s, wife and husband quarrel which may have commenced either prior to that Christmas Party, during or after they returned home. Who knows what transpired between them during the short months they were married?
On the other hand when people are the main financial providers, the other party could feel oppressed and harnessed. Did he have money of his own? Was he fully dependent on her? Did she provide him with an allowance? Frustration could set in if he did not receive an allowance. Imagine a man without money.
A party who is dependent on another party may be expected to be subject to that party who is the sole provider. There freedom of movement is curtailed and even freedom of speech. This occurs in a marriage where also the woman is the homemaker and is dependent on her husband. Therefore, let us not pretend this is not so and does not exist. Let common sense prevail. All of us know that this has occurred in the past, is in the present and will be in the future as long as one party is dependent on the other. This could cause the party to feel oppressed and harnessed. The consequences could be dire which may lead to injury and/or death of one party, specifically in the case where it affects a man who should be supposedly the breadwinner.
The wife may have been drunk. She may have been tired after a night of partying until 6:00 am.
He may have told her he was hungry or that both of them were hungry and she decided to cook. She needed some herbs. What type of herbs she needed for this cooking? She went to get the herbs which are 10 yards from the cliff. Why did he not go to get the herbs or offered to get the herbs since she was cooking and obviously tired? Did she ask him to get it? Did he refuse? Did he inform her to get it herself?
This is strange, for people who recently returned from a party and who probably had much to eat and drink. What they would be concerned with is to get some sleep unless they were expecting company.
When they returned home they may have had a quarrel for whatever reason or he planned to murder her in such a manner that no one will assume that he was the one who did it.
It is easy to say that she was drunk. Who drove their vehicle to and from the party? How far was the party from their house?
Now, what about him? Why did he not go to get the herbs since she was cooking? Why did she have to go for the herbs since she was cooking?
As it was reported, they partied until 6:00 am. She was cooking before 10:00 am. Was she preparing breakfast or lunch? Did she have company coming for breakfast, brunch or lunch?
What type of menu was she preparing at that time?
What made him aware that she fell over the cliff? Exactly what time did he find her?
Does the St. Lucia Police not have a lie detector to conduct such an investigation? Give him a lie detector test. He should undergo one.
If not call-in one from Barbados if they have one; call-in the FBI and Scotland Yard or also get assistance from Canadian officials who are trained in such investigations. It can be done. Forget about the cost. A precious life was lost and we need to get to the bottom of this. I do hope that Great Britain will perform its own investigation since she was a British citizen.

Then there is DNA. Did the St. Lucia Police conduct a DNA test on her clothing for his fingerprints including his footprints? Also in the area where she supposedly fell, to her death?
I do not think this case should be closed and call it a day. It is too suspicious. The majority of people who have read this sad story are suspicious. Surely, the majority could not be wrong.
West Indian Police Force should be trained in DNA, fingerprinting and footprints samples. His footprints could also have been in that area where she fell to her death. This investigation should have been conducted immediately when the body was found and during recovery and also thereafter.
If he murdered her by throwing her down the cliff and on Christmas Day, the Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, her blood is crying to Heaven for vengeance. Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “Vengeance is Mine! I will repay!” He will not escape.
The table may turn on him in time as people provide their thoughts and comments as to what may have truly happened to his wife. This is what may set the Police thinking and to further investigate the circumstances of her death. It is my feeling that they need some help in this matter.
The St. Lucia Police authorities should do more and hopefully they are, undercover.
We should not be ignorant about that. It is my feeling that this lady made a mistake by marrying this man. In the first place, he is not of her social caliber, education, ambition and progress except, probably financially. Lack of this on the part of one party could prove to be problematic, if you know what I mean.
What type of relationship/communication did they have other than being lovers and husband and wife? This is not much to have an amicable, happy and successful marriage. In time, lack of this will project itself by the husband’s or the wife’s actions.
I have always known we do our utmost to associate and also to marry another who has something in common with us, other than being a human being, a man and a woman. I am not insinuating that this will lead to earthly happiness but it does help in many instances. It is something which we should consider when choosing a partner and a life-long one as a husband and wife.
Please excuse me. A beautiful face and good sex are not enough. Those things are not lasting. We should also learn from the mistakes of others.
I recall reading in a Toronto Catholic Church bulletin, “Learn from the mistakes of others. We do not live long enough to make them ourselves.” Here is a good lesson while we last. Our parents should nurture us accordingly. Much more could be stated about that.
