Canefield man punished for injuring teen, says they want to go ‘high science’ on him

A Canefield man will have until March 31, 2012 to pay over $2,000 in fines after pleading guilty to wounding, threatening, and intimidating a 16 year-old boy of that community.

Ian Joseph,38, also pleaded guilty to throwing missiles and battery when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Evelina Baptiste on Monday.

The facts, according to the police prosecutor, states that the defendant injured the teenager with a stone on his thumb, threatened to kill him and intimidated him with a cutlass on October 12, 2011  in Canefield.

The incident occurred at 7:20 a.m. when the teen and his mother were on their way to school and work, respectively. While walking on the street, the defendant pointed to the juvenile with his cutlass and told him “I have to kill you.” The defendant later struck him with a stone on his right thumb and ran.

When approached by the police Joseph stated, “That little boy troublesome. He pelted stones at me, I had my cutlass. I send back stones at him. Them people want to go high science on me.”

When asked whether he had any problems with the facts which were read to the court Joseph denied throwing stones or intimidating and wounding the juvenile.  The magistrate then said that the defendant’s response indicated that he wanted to change his plea. Joseph then took full responsibility for the crimes stating, “You know what, I am guilty of everything.”

During mitigation the defendant described himself as a person who loved “helping the world” and was not one who would look for trouble.

Before passing sentence, the magistrate stated, “You’re 38 years old, more than twice the age of the complainant. You could be his father. What manner of man are you?”

On the count of wounding he was sentenced to pay $1,200 by March 31, 2012 or he spends six months in prison. For intimidation he will pay $800 by the same date or he will face four months in jail.

For threatening the teen Joseph was told to pay $500 or he will spend three months in prison. Sentences are to run concurrently. There was no separate penalty for battery and throwing missiles.

I guess someone else has already done high science on him, which is why he behaved that way.

However, we should not see only the negative side of this. Sometimes when people do certain things, it’s because they have expired all other possibilities to obtain help and that help did not come. We never know what goes on in the heads of others until they react.

So what would he have done to the boy if he could be so vile towards in the presence of the mother? a very sick bastard, his charges were too laxed if you ask me. Grown 38 year old man tackling a 16 year old, what a disgrace to society. Then we ask about the direction our youth are heading

These older guys do not think at all. They act even more childish than kids. He is meant to talk to the kid and get him on the straight and narrow yet he hitting the person child. And they do think kids stay kids forever. In ten years when you knocking fifty, what you think going to happen if that kid let your actions influence his future behaviour? he will definitely have vengeance on his mind. Talk to kids, don’t be hitting people children!
