Police Chief Cyril Carrette said no stones will be left unturned in clamping down on the perpetrator or perpetrators who attempted to kill Corporal Patrick George and his family.
Bottles of explosive liquid were thrown inside the home of George at about 3:30 a.m at his River Estate residence, causing a massive explosion.
“I consider that to be an attack on every law enforcement officer in Dominica and an attack on every citizen in Dominica. It means that persons who perpetuate criminal acts are trying to silence the security of the state but I want to let them know that they will not silence the law enforcement officers of Dominica. We will continue to do our work unimpeded…we will hunt them down,” he said.
Carrette said there are also persons in Dominica who are supportive of these criminals. “They may be their children, father, uncle, or friend but we do not want Dominica to get into the state that persons cannot go about their daily business,” he added.
He urged law enforcement officers to continue to do the work that they are being paid to do and not be perturbed.
“We are urging those persons to pass the information to the police. Do not surrender your rights and freedom to criminals,” he added.
The police chief said the matter is being treated as an attempted murder case.
Meantime Carrette said full security has been put in place to protect the life of George and his family.

I am not a fan of the police to be honest, however, I support officers carrying firearms, and also getting more radical and tough on these fools..I am away from DOminca and have been for a few . Had we the benefit of a professional ly trained Police Department ,instead of the current crop of Violent, crude, disrectful,obnoxiuos ,police officers who think that they are members of the Police FORCE,instead of the Police SERVICE those crimes would have been solved, case in point. Accoring to the police much evidence was left behind in both attempted murders, Bottles ,pails etc,were all left at the scene of the crime, which would contain FINGER PRINTS of the perpetrators, but our Keystone Cops, although equipped with finger printing kits are unable to lift and classify any and all such FORENSIC evidence.Instead they rely on detaining innocent people ,while at the same time they claim to be able to conclusive identify and categorise the motive of the perpetrators.So much for police CREDIBILITY
When hate, division and general negativity is all you get in the media what do you expect the results to be? The other day someone broke into my home, when the police came, they had no note pad, nothing to tae finger prints, didnt show any I.D and i haven’t seen or heard from them since they left. So why is it that only the president, the prime minister, or a person of high ranks gets closer attention when threats and criminal acts are done to them? This is total nonsense! What a shame? There was no public statement against the fire at Mr Emmanuel’s home. There was no speech to hunt down the people responsible. To date not one person was questioned far less arrested on this Emmanuel matter. It is sad that we have reached a stage of such injustice in Dominica. There has been no investiagtion but rather a rush to arrest. What the Police Chief and others are saying is that their view of justice all depends on who is involved. If those fellas arrested had big names and big links then there would be no investigation as was done with Emmanuel. Is this the same Chief who had a warrant to execute on issidore and never did so. What the Chief does not realize is that he is creating the problem of crime in this society. When he condones inequality and injustice and speaks out only when it suits him he is doing more harm than good. Its a pity that he doesnt see the crime situation starts with him and his force and the lack of objectivity. Now I am not condoning any fire be it at officer George nor at Emmanuel. But this kind of one sided concept of justice must stop.

My God, it is sad to read some of the comments posted on this medium. I am shocked by and worried by the way that we analyze and comment on issues. We are so involved in politics that we continue to undermine the major pillars of our society; these pillars that helps give support to our growing democracy. The Police, though primitive in is crime fighting measures remains the Police with a mandate for protecting our country and its citizens. We may have issues with the head of the force or the behaviours or attitudes of members of the Force, but they are still Police Officers and should be treated and respected as such. We use our miscontrued democratic right of freedom of expresson to destroy the same institutions mandated to protect us. A Police officer, a Dominican, a father, a brother etc, life was threatened by somebody for doing his job to protect our country and its populace from the ills of the drug trade and instead of giving support to the officer and the Commonwealth of Dominica POlice Force, we attack the chief, the former chief and his son, and all soughts of folishness are mentioned instead of concentrating on the issue. I am so surprised and ashamed to be a Dominican at this point. I fail to see the connections with other incidents which took place earlier. this is a separate incidents and the others are separate incidents and must be treated as such. There are lots of ridiculous things about this guy Cyril, even in this statement he makes himself sound ridiculous, because the word clamping down on a perpetrator is a far cry, from capturing, and arresting, the perpetrator of a crime.
When one use the terms “clamp down, or clamping down,” that is defined as we are imposing certain restrictions: i.e. crack down, in this case the police are clamping down on speeders, when police clamp down on speeding drivers in this country, they do not make arrest, the simply write a speeding citation.
When the police capture someone, that is the taking or detaining in custody by authority of law, that is what you need to do Cyril!
I advice that after you capture the culprit through your scientific tactics of no stones left unturned, I would hope you used the same tactics to capture the perpetrator, or perpetrators who also firebomb the home of Emanuel, last December, 25th. How come you have not yet implemented your recently found skills in the capturing of criminals, to capture the criminals, or criminal who firebomb the home of Emanuel under your nose.
Besides there are hundreds of unsolved crimes in Dominica, how come you are not utilizing your skills in the turning over of rock-stones to find all of the criminals walking the streets of Dominica.

Interesting. The police has become the criminal. Suddenly,perhaps not , the activities of money launderers have become legal. The “police is jealous” of the young boys for what these boys have. What does these youngs boys have? Ill gotten gains. They have not worked anywhere, not even to wrap groceries. They have not benefitted form family inheritance. Yet they have property (house, land jewelry, electronics, furnoture etc) befitting that of a rich succeessful business man with fifty or so years of sweat, tears and toil behind him. They have property that was gained over night. The society knows howmany different properties they control for thier lifestyle, even if it is not registered in thier name. No amount of blame on others can absolve the guilt of these criminals. Can you imagine the number of young men who have lost their lives engaging in activities for these young papa criminals? The criminals may succeed in getting away for sometime, but they will be caught some way some how. Patrick do your work. You represent the state of Dominica. Allhaters of the polioce must come to the police some day. Some body must offend them one day and they can find no other recourse but to go to the police for dredress.
That’s right officers – hunt down these vagabonds like they ought to be hunted and when they are captured unleash the full brunt of the law on them!!

NO body said that justice should not be served …all I have read in most of the comments is that why was /has nothing been done in the case of Emmanuel ? and why did we not get the same quick and vehement response from the police chief?….We are all in for turning all the stones but why only turn them for some.

i am very disappointed with the job of the investigating offices.A few weeks ago Mr Emanuel home was set on fire the so call police officers could not find what caused the fire but as soon as officer George house was on fire he picked up the five guys he was investigating so why he did not pick up Isidore for questioning ; shame on our judiciary system

Well well well. The way things are going in DA we are really highlighting the adage that the truth is perception and justice is an illusion. I am by no means down playing the assault on the police officer and his family however the measure of response afforded Mr Edison James and the police officer should have been extended to the former chief magistrate Mr Emmanuel. Mr Carrette did not come out publically and declare his position. Up to now we have not heard anything from the police regarding the Emanuel investigation. or the lack thereof.
We are at a point of no return in Dominica – never have we seen so much disregard for law and order ; How can the people respect the police when the police themselves are ineffective. There are blatant criminal activities among civilians , politicians and the police themselves and nothing is being done to correct or prosecute those criminals. Where there is that level of negligence by law enforcement a society is destined for decadence and chaos. Let us face the truth because some people can openly get away with lawlessness others feel that they too have a right to be left alone and to do their own thing.
Because of political affiliations the rapid decay in law and order is viewed as just another political marble or card. So many of us refuse to accept that much more need to be done for the fear that our party will be ridiculed. In the midst of this political posturing we need to recognize that now is the time to put country first instead of party.
How can we adapt to lawlessness. Are we waiting for the moment when the consequence come knocking on our front doors. Are we waiting to join the afflicted the likes of Mr Emmanuel, Officer George and all the other victims of our lawless society.

Isn’t this similar to what happened on Christmas morning at the home of Mr. Emmanuel? How naive can you be. Protection and investigation with prompt attention should also be display in this case.
